Monta's Ankle... Breaking News

Tom Tolbert on KNBR just broke the news that Monta Ellis injured his ankle in "A LOW SPEED MOPED ACCIDENT."  Sounds a little less stupid than most of us (including me) gave him credit for.

Just thought I'd pass the news the news along.

more stupid

he jeopardize his contract and career for riding a moped, how can that be less stupid?

by lightz0ut on Sep 24, 2008 5:13 PM PDT reply actions

If you knew something like this would happen

Then yes stupid, but who thought it would happen. He is a normal human just like the rest of us. Yes it sucks, for us as fans. But some people around here act like athletes should live in a bubble.
Its not like he was doing something that normally would cause grave danger at a high rate.
It sucks, but move on, can’t change the past.
As fans support our team and wish him the best in his recovery.

by The Golden One on Sep 24, 2008 5:23 PM PDT up reply actions

moving on....

eh, I don’t care what he does, he’s making more money than me and he earns it. It still doesn’t change the fact that what he did was stupid. You don’t (normally) get a high grade injury cruising around so I assume he must be fooling around or something.

WTF?!!!

No wonder he got into an accident! You can’t pop wheelies on a freakin moped! It’s a bicycle w/ a lawnmower motor for Christsake!!!

ding ding ding ding

winner!!!! we found a warriors dumber than Action Jackson. haha Yes, we all know Jackson is a dumbass. Now, Monta could take that title now. So, who is going to jack up more stupid shoot attempts? That is our next question there. lol

jackson?

because that’s what he does, and monta doesn’t? why would getting into an accident change that

he has to apologize before he can be forgiven.

by dajrichshow on Sep 24, 2008 7:08 PM PDT up reply actions

wow

Feeling self-important are we? Though apologizing to the fans would be above and beyond a classy move, i don’t think it’s necessary. He’ll pay the price already. He’ll be fined. Also, he has and is enduring the physical pain of the incident, not to mention the possibility that he has affected his present and future athletisicm which is what he makes his living off of. It’s amusing how personally hurt people are over his injury.

I pray i never have to use a gun again...

...unless i'm at a strip club parking lot...

...and somebody tries to run me over with their car...

...But how often does that happen??

by ssmokinjoe on Sep 24, 2008 8:15 PM PDT up reply actions

How am I in any way feeling self-important?

I’m not condemning or judging him for his actions. He simply needs to man up. Why does it take a leak from an unnamed source a month after the incident for us to find out the “truth?” And now he’s skipping out on media day as well? I’m not asking for much, but he should at least address the media at some point.

by dajrichshow on Sep 24, 2008 11:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Why does it take a leak from an unnamed source a month after the incident for us to find out the "truth?"

Because he probably forgot your number.

Montay answers to Nellie, Mullin, and Cohan. Those are the guys that he lied to, and those are the guys that he needs to apologize to first. That’s how he needs to man up. And you’ll read about it in the paper when it’s your turn to know.

IMO, i’m positive that he feels bad about it and not just for the money aspect of it and not just for the loss of playing time. I’m sure that he feels that he let the fans down. But apologize for being on a moped? No thanks. I don’t need that. If he got caught for drugs or raped a girl or even just got caught using a racial slur, then that’s something that i’d like him to publicly say sorry for. But riding on a moped and getting into an accident? C’mon. I know it was poor judgement and against his contract and he tried to lie about it, but it just doesn’t scream morrally depraved to me.

I pray i never have to use a gun again...

by ssmokinjoe on Sep 25, 2008 4:23 AM PDT up reply actions

Ok I admit

I may have been a little harsh at first, but I just couldn’t believe how bad his judgment was to jeopardize his own future and the future of the team for a damn moped. Now that I’ve had some time to think about it, it really could have been a lot worse. Of all the crazy rumors, no one would have ever thought of this. Just curious though, you really wouldn’t care if Monta never explained the situation to the media and just pretended like he didn’t really do anything wrong?

by dajrichshow on Sep 25, 2008 6:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Honestly, i feel that Warrior fans are more or less treating Monta like a “son” around here. We’re proud that he began his career here. We’re proud that he’s developed into the face of the franchise after being a 2nd rounder. We’re proud of all of his accomplishments in his young career and we want to see more from him. We feel that Monta is ours and we know that he’s young so want to see him grow into great things.

So when he screwed up, a lot of us felt betrayed like disappointed fathers and mothers and that he owed us something because we’ve been rooting our hearts out for him from the jump. We want him to come to us with his tail between his legs, look us all dead in the eye and confess and apologize to each and every one of us individually.

But i’m trying to look at this with my eyes open. He never owed us anything. He’s an NBA athlete who plays for money. As much as a lot of athletes say they play for the fans, i don’t and will never buy that. They play for money and that is on the top of the list for them. So when he hopped on that moped, he betrayed himself and his money… not me or you. And when he lied about it, it wasn’t just because he was embarrassed or scared or because he didn’t want to disappoint anyone. It was because he knew that he violated his contract and he would lose money.

I’m not trying to say that Monta is evil or even a bad person. And a big part of my numbness on this is that he didn’t put anyone but himself in harms way. All i’m wondering is when is he gonna be able to play again.

I pray i never have to use a gun again...

That’s true but a lot of people spent a lot of money for season tickets with the expectation that Montay would be playing, so he owes them at least an explanation and apology. What would JRich do if this happened to him?

He might put out a full page apology in a Bay Area newspaper and gain the admiration of thousands of Warriors fans. See where that got him?

But i hear you guys. You all want him to “do the right thing”. Either way it doesn’t faze me. I’m willing to admit that all i want is for him to come back soon, play well, and entertain me.

why could it not be sharks with freaking laser beams, or even mountain biking, heck i would even go with a box car, but a moped!!!! that better be like a suped up moped that would make a harley cry. it better not be one of those cheap ones like the kind you could actually buy at target. if its an electric one i would of just lied and said i slpped on a banana peel at least that one would be a real accident!

Montay press conference?

I was just trying to picture this…

Monta and the Warriors call a press conference.
He gets to the podium and spells out the true details of his accident. “I was in a low speed moped accident.”
The entire room busts out laughing to the point of uncontrollability. People are rolling on the floor holding their stomachs.
Monta’s face turns red at first, then he busts out laughing too.
The whole thing ends up on youtube and people think it’s a skit.

I could definitely see that happening.

Monta? WTF

Any God fearing man from the South that rides a Moped deserves to get a grade 3 ankle sprain. Maybe Monta was trying to cut down on global warming and greenhouse gases by riding his moped?

Why would he ride a low speed moped? He could run faster than that.

by belilaugh on Sep 25, 2008 9:00 AM PDT reply actions

Monta Ellis was riding a moped when he severely injured his left ankle last month in his native Jackson, Mississippi, sources close to the Warriors guard told The Chronicle.

The 22-year-old tore the deltoid ligament in his ankle and sustained a high-ankle sprain in what one of the sources labeled as a “low-speed” accident. Ellis underwent surgery on Aug. 27 and is expected to be sidelined for at least another two months.

So now what, they’re going to give him an electric wheelchair while he recovers? Oh nope…wait….can’t do that. He might hurt himself in a high-speed wheelchair accident. Maybe if the put a governor on the wheelchair so it doesn’t go too fast?

And then you couldn’t follow that up with 75 words? Jeez man…

I hate Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle, and Russel Peters because they make fun of white people like me. They also make fun of other kinds of people, which hurts me deep down because my ancestry is so mixed that I don't know what my official "race" is... so I get offended for all races!
