Mullin and BD had agreed to extension but....
For those of you who aren't already all over this (I'm sure, love or hate it, a lot of GSoM'ers are daily Talking Points readers):
Whether or not you wanted BD to get that deal, this has interesting implications for our team. Obviously, Kawakami gives a way better analysis than I ever could but it seems to me that the most important point for the future is that Mullin got uver ruled on something as big as this. That combined with the complete lack of any meaningful extension talk would seem to suggest that his influence is decreasing and this will be Mullin's last season w/ the W's.
Kind of a bummer if you ask me but I'm just some dude. Let's go way off the hypothetical deep end and assume a) this is Mullin's last season as GM and b) that he completes no major moves between now and his exit. Assuming those two ideas, what move/ combination of moves define Mullin's tenure as GM to you? Peep the poll...
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

and don’t post if you have nothing to add to the discussion?
Hey Lifelong, I think Mullin’s signature move was getting Nelson to come back for the we believe playoff run. That’s what we’ll be talking about for the next decade or so.

You are so right
That was a grave oversight on my part. I don’t know if any other coach could have used that roster we had in 06-07 as effectively as Nellie did. I’ve never really given Mullin all that much credit for it but I’m sure he had to do a lot of brokering with Cohan to get him to agree to it (I mean, someone obviously had to). Good call, should have been in the poll for sure.
My bad
I never even make it down to the fanshots. I had no clue it was there.
IMO this is more of a Fanpost than a Fanshot which is the OPPOSITE of what usually happens so, nice work!
I’d agree with StSaints408’s assertion on that topic most of the time, but this changes how I view the off-season a little bit. The difference between this and a Fanshot is that this is discussion-worthy (wholly subjective I know).
A Fanshot is more like “Warriors pick up team-option on player X’s 3rd year of his rookie deal” and that player isn’t POB.
Whatever, everyone has an opinion, to me, this is worth a Fanpost.

How ironic that this happens after Atma leaves the building
This is right in his wheelhouse. His working premise that the Warriors suck because Cohan is cheap versus the “conventional logic” that it is perfectly logical for an owner to want to stay under the luxury tax.
This also craps in the face of all the “Baron stabbed Mullin in the back” talk.
I still think Baron’s a punk, but that has to do with his attitude on the court and with the media. On the floor he made this team relevant. Combined with the genius of Don Nelson, they made this team good.

Obviously, it was extending Foyle
because it was the best thing that’s ever happened to the team!!!!

mullin's made some good moves
some bad ones too (as pointed out in the poll). if it is his last season, we’d better have a plan to bring in a top flight gm to replace him. it’s kind of funny though. normally when the gm gets overruled, it’s a terrible idea. you always hear about owners trying to cut costs at the expense of the team, but when upper management vetoes a deal that cuts costs and helps the team (yeah, paying bd for the next 4 years would end up being a bad idea, i don’t know if he’s got that long left as great player), it doesn’t bode well for the gm. i’d like to keep mullin around for the next couple years to see if this core can win in the future, and if he can build on it. this should be interesting to watch.
