"Would the Riley-Nelson team trade one or both of them? There shouldn't be any doubt the answer is yes, they would."

Oh man, im scared. I just read an article over at Matt Stiemenzis blog and its kinda freaking me out.

Star-divide

Yeah so if you read the blog, he says how Rilieys pretty much Mullys replacement, which is just messed up, how can the people working there just do that and not give a crap?

Well, the worst part is that there talking about how Randolph was drafted by Mully, and how Nellie and Riley might go out and trade randolph and wright. Thats messed up. Please, everyone who goes the games, make FIRE NELLIE signs or somthing, i mean i was kinda liking him again, but this? no way. And with his "coaching" last night? When Wilcox was just killing us, and everyoe was just outrebounding us, he decided to put in crawford?!?! i hate nellie, and if he trades randolph, im going to go nuts..

thats my point exactly. 90% of the Nellie haters are simply complainers upset about how bad the team is. The team just isnt all that talented and the front office has made some awful moves. If you have specific reasons you dont like Nellie and specific reasons to believe other coaches could fix the situation, fine, but stop with the pointless “fire nellie” whining. Well...

…I’ve been pretty detailed about why I think Nelson needs to go, and for the record, I think bringing Eddie Jordan in wouldn’t be a good idea, although at the very least he’d have greater incentive to succeed than Nelson does. Jordan, that said, has been at the helm of some terrible defensive teams in Washington, and that’s exactly what we already are now. Avery Johnson doesn’t have a job, he’s the best man available, and I’ll say with conviction that I have not a shred of doubt he’d lead us to a better record than Nelson, and with less organizational turmoil. Reggie Theus isn’t a terrible coach, but swapping him in for Nelson with this roster in the middle of a lame duck season is a lateral move at its best.

Front office

Look at NY, they went from a laughingstock to an up and coming team in 6 months with the hiring and support of one solid front office person. Walsh. He then went out and got a great coach in D’Antoni. Now, rumor has it he is interested in hiring Mullin as GM this offseason once he’s been let go by the W’s. Now, juxtapose that with our situation, of having Rowell as president. Suddenly Mullin is out, Riley is in, Nelson has a 3 year extension and we’ve let Baron go so that we can sign Maggette and Jack to long term deals. So, in that same 6 months we went from up and coming team back to laughingstock.

And then I read posts saying we shouldn’t criticize the team. It’s not their fault. We don’t have a lot of talent. And, of course, lay off Nelson. Whose had his fingers in the middle of this mess and has left more than one franchise broken. Nobody in this clusterf*ck, with the possible exception of the players whose talents and limitations we all knew, should be above criticism. The lack of professionalism and competence is startling.

Mully, or Rowell let Baron go?

my recollection was that Mully had a 3y/$39m deal done with Baron but Rowell nixed it …

re Maggette – it was a rational move to compete for 6-8th spot in WC

Monta, CJ
Jax & Maggette, KAz, Marco
Harrington, Wright, Randolph
Andris, Turiaf

of course, the wheels came off when Monta and Harrington’s situations went FUBAR, but at the time Maggette’s signing was a good fit – the Jackson & Crawford decisions are what has sent our future cap situation into the crapper, and were seen AT THE TIME as poor decisions as opposed to hindsight

by hardcore on Jan 2, 2009 11:37 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

There is nothing wrong with trading Randolph or Wright or any other player if it’s a move that will actually improve the team’s future. Trading them because you simply don’t want them around though is dumb. Moving them to try to undo a past mistake is similarly not going to amount to much.

I don’t really care who the GM (or whatever they call the personnel decision maker with the Warriors) is if he’s got a good plan and can execute it. Mullin hasn’t been an inspired GM. He’s been adequate, which is enough to occassionally have some good seasons. His picks have been hit or miss as has his eye for free agents and decisions about contracts. He reacts to his past mistakes more often than he seems to think ahead. Him staying or going isn’t really an issue to me. The big issue is whether someone can actually make decisions for the basketball good that won’t be undone by a top level veto or negated by a Rowell/Cohan attempt at a basketball decision. Right now, a mediocre GM (which is what Mullin appears to be) with some authority would be better than the vacuum at the top caused by multiple influences fighting it out.

i see him being a beast in the leage one day

by gswfan1 on Jan 1, 2009 8:44 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

When you rate a guy who slipped to #14 as “untouchable”, you’re putting everything into a longshot bet. Guys drafted late lottery rarely become beasts. Guys who struggle to hit shots in college and have a problem with abundant turnovers (and show similar problems in the pros) rarely become beasts. He could be a beast, but he could easily be a bust as well. If someone offers something for him based on potential, the Warriors have to listen to the offer and consider if the other team is overbidding on the potential. Not doing so would be irresponsible management.

How about:

Anthony Randolph for Kevin Love.

Yes, Kevin Love.

Him and Al Jefferson is redundant. Neither can play center and expect good results. Love has been a great rebounder thus far. The only negative is that awful, awful shooting percentage.

He’s not as athletic as Marreese Speights. Not as tall as Brook Lopez. Not as strong as Greg Oden. Which, perhaps, explains why Love is playing only 22.8 minutes per game. But in terms of being a pure rebounder, Love is at the head of the class. He currently ranks second in overall rebound rate and tops the class in offensive rebound rate. More impressively, he’s tied for sixth overall in the entire league in rebound rate. Yes, he’s struggling to score and shoot efficiently, but his ability to rebound should earn him more minutes. Think about this: He has grabbed 233 rebounds in 683 minutes this season. Kevin Garnett has 273 rebounds in 1,017 minutes.

dude

we can not trade randolph!!! he will be a mix of odom and garnett one day

by gswfan1 on Jan 1, 2009 10:22 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Wow, that’s a bold call. Love is a rebounding machine, and lot’s of NBA GM’s were enamored with him coming out. Can’t hear any more about his outlet passing. But he was a center in college and has proved, at least so far, that he’s not a center in the NBA. You’re right, he and Jefferson are redundant. To me, they’re both big 4’s. His rebounding and ability around the hoop could be a good fit. Mullin was supposed to love him, although that doesn’t do anything for us now.

But I think the biggest obstacle might be that Minn traded Mayo for Love just this offseason. Mayo is the ROY and that would be a pretty stunning admission of failure so early. Min had the #3 pick in 2008, Love was the #5 pick and Randolph was #14. And Randolph hasn’t exactly been lighting it up, he’s all upside right now.

by jmaaan on Jan 2, 2009 2:49 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Fans here have an exaggerated opinion of Randolph’s probability of realizing his “potential”. Suggesting that a #14 pick who so far has been relegated to the bench and garbage minutes more often than not can be swapped for a top 5 pick who has received regular minutes suggests some strange psychosis, almost as strange as saying that it would be a foolish move because Randolph is all but guaranteed to be star player.

Haha

Well then maybe i should change my name from Kenntoe to SamSmith001.

Do I think this trade is feasible? Hell no, especially since Randolph hasn’t shown much on an NBA floor, as well as a bad PR move in trading Love. I just like to stir the pot.

nellie's a loser

and his team will continue to lose as long as he is the coach or gm. he refuses to get a decent POWER forward, instead preferring to trot out all the tall, skinny greyhounds who can’t shoot 3’s, yet continue to do so at alarming numbers.
also, he plays jackson as if he were iverson in his prime. jackson is easily one of the 5 most overrated offensive players in the league (although the best defender on the team). he should not play 45 minutes in ANY game, let alone one that doesn’t even go into overtime.
nellie is a fat (thus undisciplined) moron whose time has come. hire a current young assistant as the new head coach , bring in a real power forward, and get ballin’ and WINNING! NO MORE LONG RANGE PLANS.

I think...

…you’re oversimplifying the situation. While I’d probably rather see Nelson gone, it’s not as if he could just “bring in a real power forward.” There are supply and demand issues to consider. I happen to think Wright is our best 4 right now, and I think it’s crazy not to play him. But unless you’re suggesting as I am that Wright should be getting starter’s minutes the rest of the year, I’m somewhat unsure what you are suggesting.

Also, why give a crap if he’s overweight? Hell, if I’d lived as packed a life as he had, I’d probably just spend my old age getting drunk and eating ribs too.

i think the warriors need jim barnett as coach.

honestly, u can tell in his talk that he is just yearning to go out to the court, lay down the
law and draw up plays for the players.
Everyone knows he has had a respectable career as a player and he needs to show our guys the FUNDAMENTALS of basketball .If only he could realize the oportunity he has to show this club some good old fashioned fundamentals. If he was coach, he would shape our young rooks into decent and proffiecient players, and make the older players feel more comfortable playing the style they should play. He would bring his valued knowledge to the young and inexperienced, while strengthening our mature and experienced players.

the warriors need a new coach, and he’s been here under our noses all along.

I don't get the Randolp hype

When I see Randolph on the defensive end I see someone who should be on the floor more minutes – he hustles, FIGHTs for rebounds (BW should have that desire) and loves to get in someone’s grill and block shots.

but, i know why Nellie’s not playing him….

on offense he’s strictly a FREELANCER. He’s shown not one iota of interest in being part of the 5 man team. How many times have the warriors been down by 20 and he rips a dunk and stares down everyone in the building like he won a championship.

He’s selfish and has delusions of grandeur – which at 19 as an NBA rookie is a BAD thing.

Nelson can’t play him because he’s UNCOACHABLE.

BTW…am i the only that sees a resemblance between Marco and a young Mullie? Slow, good court vision/instincts, sweet jumper. Just needs a little more craftiness around the rim.

Maybe for nellies style of play but I bet Rudolf could put down points with the right game plan. He’s got energy and drive that I hate to see killed by nellie’s stubbornness, hate to see Rudy go the way of Webber.
These losing games would be more entertaining with a little floor time for the sad one.

He’s 19, he needs to learn some things. That goes with being 19. If he doesn’t fit into the “offensive scheme” (WHAT OFFENSIVE SCHEME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???) Then that probably means he needs to learn it more. I think he gets out there, he is so competitive that he just reverts back to what has given him success in the past. It’s like Mike Tyson’s famous line “Everybody has a plan until they get hit in the mouth”. Randolph just needs to work through the growing pains of trying to go with the system and failing, because going into the system (I SAY IT AGAIN WHAT SYSTEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???) he is going to get worse before he gets better.

Unfortunately, I probably just explained that all better to Randolph then anything Nelly has ever told him. Nelly is completely out of touch. If he is upset about players not fitting into the system (WHAT SYS…..okay, I won’t do that again), then he should bench some other guys too because Randolph isn’t the only one. At least Randolph gives a good defensive effort and rebounding effort, something most of the guys can’t or won’t do and something the team severely needs.

Nelly is out of touch, Randolph is either the most or 2nd most talented player on the team along with Monta. If they trade him I will probably abandon the team for the rest of the season out of disgust.
