Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Is Crawford really needed once Monta's back?

After watching the portland game last night the rebounding problem has to be solved. There is no way they can win consistantly with other teams getting that many second chance points. So sine they are stacked with gaurds on the warriors, why not get rid of one of the guards for a quality rebounder to help Biedrens. Out of all the guards Crawford would make the most sense to get rid of since he's a volume shooter that shoots a low percentage on a team that has other players that demand the ball as well. Before Maggette's return i would have though he would have been the guy but latley he has fit in well.

Although Crawfords contract is not very attractive, with Belinelli's game improving and showing the ability to play both PG and SG, he is a good canidate to play alongside monta, being he could run the point but guard the SG because of his size. With monta in the lineup we dont need another gaurd who looks to shoot first instead of pass, while belinelli finds the open man. Not to mention CJ is shooting a high percentage and has a better shot seletion. Basically we need a rebounder for a gaurd and carwfords seems to be the one that is the least efficent.

Then i was looking at trade rumers and saw the article about Kaman, and that he could be out by the trade deadline.

http://www.prosportsdaily.com/comments/chris-kaman-is-probably-out-through-allstar-break-191312.html

A deal involving Crawford for Kaman would greatly help the team. Its a little too late this year but that would put them in a great position to make the playoffs next year. This is what their lineup could look like. Much deeper, better rebounding, still can put up points, better defensivley.

Crawford for Kaman

Yeah, sure, I’d trade Crawford for Kaman. That’d give us more depth inside and it gets rid of another guard for something that we need. Too bad the Clippers wouldn’t do it, though.

kaman

as evidenced by the link you provided, kaman is very injury prone. i don’t know how effective kaman would be in nelson’s “system” as well because of the fact that he is strictly a low post player. i’d do this trade in a heartbeat if we had another coach though…

Butt Secks Says +100000

The Caveman is hurt right now…how is he going to be after rehab? I dont follow the clips but I know caveman wouldnt be good (for us) cause he is most effective in a half court back-to-the-basket type of game. If we could get him without sacrificing too much, Id say get him for depth and for times that we get sucked into a half court game. I dont want to part with any of our players on our team and like someone else said, he wouldnt work for nelson. GET DREW GOODEN and condition him until he can run and gun

trading for crawford

was completely unnecessary and foolish at the time. it’s going to look worse and worse if monta comes back and can actually play. trading him for kaman would be amazing, but couldn’t happen. no chance the clippers take that deal. i don’t think we can get anything of real value for him. his deal goes past 2010 and he isn’t showing that he’s a useful asset to a good team. we only got him because of the ridiculous desperation to get rid of harrington. i would have rather kept harrington and his contract around, even if it was on the end of the bench, and waited to see if a good deal came along. instead we jumped the gun and made a dumb trade. this is the end result and we’re stuck with it.

did you figured out the problem?

Just in case: http://www.nba.com/warriors/tickets/best_buy_offer_sac_okc.html or call the number. 1-888-GSW-Hoop. After 10 Am tomorrow. Anything now and you wouldn’t get the offer (also, sometimes the offer isn’t promptly at the time they say it is. It could be 30 minutes – to an hour later).

Hope that helps.

will probably opt out anyway. Take the MLE with a contender.

by saintdee on Jan 11, 2009 11:51 AM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Even if that happens,

which I am hoping for, all it means is that our we would be able to use our MLE without going into luxary tax area in the off season.

That, and whomever the coach is wouldn’t be fooled by the 30% of the time that he plays well into thinking that he should get 40 minutes a night.

don nelson doesnt utilize post up plaayers, and we dont need 2 centers, we need a quick good pf who can hit some shots, or a real PG,

id say go after andre miller, hes got 1 year left, and hes a great pg, l thnk 12 and 8?

Kaman is scheduled to make
2008-09 9.5 mil
2009-10 10.4 mil
2010-11 11.3mil
2011-12 12.4mil

thats alot of money to tie up in a guy that does basically what our best player(Andris Biedrins) already does…

Kaman is not the best option

Crawford for Bargnani and Graham

Calderon/Ukik
Crawford/Parker
Moon/Parker/Kapono
Bosh/Humphries
O’Neal/Voskuhl

Monta/Watson
Belinelli/Maggette/Azubuike
Jackson/Maggette/Azubuike/Randolph
Bargnani/Wright/Randolph
Biedrins/Turiaf/Bargnani

We can give them our 09 pick, top-5 protected

by Spaniard on Jan 11, 2009 12:21 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It makes sense for both teams,

I like the move, it gives us some more flexibilty and a decent looking young player in Bagnani. Not sure if Colangelo would want to give up on his #1 pick so quick and for as little as Crawford.

What is the status of our petitions to fire Robert Rowell and have Chris Cohan commit Hari Kiri, or at least sell the team?

by warriorsscore110 on Jan 11, 2009 12:32 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

decent looking young player in Bagnani.

I’ve never really spent much time looking at him. He may look good. Unfortunately, as a player, he’s abysmal. He’s less useful than any of the guys we have on our squad, one of the very, very few regular rotation players in the NBA who would make us worse than we already are.

I don’t think much of Crawford, but unless it’s about letting Bargnani walk at the end of his deal, that’s a trade I’d pass on.

Crawford

Yeah, so I said “what the hey” to Kaman for Crawford.

The Ultimate Opportunist

by Rated-R Superstar on Jan 11, 2009 1:08 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think you’re making too much of a false “Nellie Ball = 3pt shooting PF”. What happened last year hasn’t been characteristic of all of Nelson’s coaching career. What Nelson has favored is guys with diverse skill sets so he doesn’t have to overly think about position and can instead go for the particular matchup. It happened that last year the best way for the team to score points was to take a ton of threes. That’s not a universal. It was far more than any other team he’s coached before. It’s not something that has characterized the other teams he’s coached.

So the real issue is that if you’re getting Bargnani, all you’re really getting is 3 point shooting. What you’re giving up is rebounding, anything even close to a post presence, anything that even resembles a PF except for the height/weight dimensions. His game doesn’t provide you with any of the benefits of a PF. He’s a terrible fit for nellie ball in that he’s exceptionally limited in what he can do on the court. Think Troy Murphy minus any ability to rebound.

by jae on Jan 11, 2009 1:39 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wright can't say the same

and Bargnani last month like starter: 20-6 with 60% and 66%. I think he is not only a 3pt shooter

by Spaniard on Jan 11, 2009 2:27 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well, you actually mean this month, not last month, and you’re referencing a 5 game sample for those numbers. But as for those numbers: for a PF, 6 rebounds in 35 minutes played is terrible, abysmal, a recipe for losing games. Really, it’s among the very, very worst in the game. Those would be good rebound numbers if he were a guard, but they’re not good for a SF, let alone someone who is 7 feet tall. And why should a 5 game run be more important than the 16 games the month before where he couldn’t manage 35% from the floor or 28% from three point land. Are we to believe that miraculously in 2009 he went from being terrible to the best shooter in the game.

He’s pretty much just a three point shooter, and not one who is so fantastic as to even be a huge asset at that. He’s pretty much among the worst players in the game to get anything resembling playing time. It would be hard to make this team much worse than it is. Getting him would make us worse.

by jae on Jan 11, 2009 4:27 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I mean his last starter games. A recipe for losing games? Toronto 4-2 in their last 6 games with out Jermaine O’Neal. We already have a great rebouder in Beans, no much sense get another good rebounder, but yes a very efective open PF like Bargnani.

Wright is a poor rebounder too, but with the italian guy we wouldn’t depend so much on Jax and Maggs 3pt shooting, very irregular. We’d have two grest shooters in Bargnani and Crawford.

by Spaniard on Jan 11, 2009 6:01 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

no much sense get another good rebounder,

In his defense, he said we’d have ‘two grest shooters’.

I wasn’t sure what ’grest meant, so I looked it up.

grest: –adjective

1. indicating an ability to occasionally gets hot for a game or stretch of games, thereby fooling people into thinking this skill is intrinsic when in fact, said skill is nothing more than mediocre.

2. falsely inflated positive perception, generated by hype that, as is often the case, should not have been believed.

I'd rather

send Maggette to Canada since his contract is worse and in basketball terms he makes more sense for them. Not sure theyll part with Bargnani if he continues this hot stretch. It would probably take a 3 team deal involving Jermaine ONeal’s monster contract headed somewhere else.

by sam23 on Jan 12, 2009 5:01 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I would rather send Maggette anywhere,

and then pray that JC opts out at the end of the year. How bout Drew Gooden and a top 8 proteted for Maggette and theyre pick between Randolph and Wright…

by warriorsscore110 on Jan 12, 2009 3:33 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

One of the problems we have with trading picks is that we’ve sent away a future #1 for Marcus Williams. While it’s not going to be conveyed this year, we cannot protect a pick with conditions that might make it bounce into a year when we might owe the pick to the Nets. If we trade a pick this year, we can only protect it for one season and next year it will have to be completely unprotected.

by jae on Jan 12, 2009 4:54 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

nobody is going to want maggette this season, hopefully if he plays well and we hire a gm in the off seaso we might be able to move him in the offseason…

by warriorsscore110 on Jan 12, 2009 7:39 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I can see the case for Toronto wanting him. (Desperate for a wing scorer, desperate to field a winning team while Bosh is under contract, no real shot at any other big money FA’s in 2010 if Bosh leaves) But I dont really see any other team that he makes sense for.

The LA Lakers let $10 million dollar man Kwame Brown sit on their bench. Then they traded his expiring contract for Pau Gasol.

The Boston Celtics let $12 million dollar man Theo Ratliff sit on their bench. Then they traded him for Kevin Garnett.

The New Orleans Hornets let $8 million dollar man PJ Brown sit on their bench. Then they traded him for Tyson Chandler.

(Notice how these 3 teams are currently legit championship contenders)

And don’t forget Dale Davis’ expensive azz sitting on our bench, traded to our GS Warriors for Baron Davis.

We trade ball-hogging, no defense, turnover-machines for defense, rebounding, and efficient shooting (trademarks of championship-calibur teams).

Yeah if we’re playing streetball, I’d rather see SJax and Crawford chucking away and hot-saucing out there. But on this team, what they do can be replicated with what we already have. We don’t need 4+ “20 ppg scorers” because there won’t be enough shots to go around.

It’s not reverse-homerism, I just want to see the Warriors win games.

To keep it all straight in my head, I’m going to continue to imagine that every new poster who flames me is some variant of GSDubz and every new poster who sticks up for me is some variant of Coma….

no more trades!

Or waives…or acquiring… Can’t we all wait it out? We might be a better team. I mean, afterall, we all a good team now. =X

(Darn. Poor Marco. I hope he gets better. See, that solves Nellie’s problem when Monta is back.)

Wait it out,

are you saying 3 years for Buike and JC to get off the books?
5 years for Jack and Maggette?
or six years for everyone on the roster to be off the books and Nellie to be back in Hawaii?

Too bad our front office is such a debacle, otherwise we might be good someday...

by warriorsscore110 on Jan 12, 2009 3:40 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hm...

Nellie’s contract is 3 years. (He should be very old then) No?

I’ll still take what we got. I’m greedy…they can always add more…just don’t take away.

by Shells on Jan 12, 2009 4:04 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Dumping Craw and/or Maggs would be addition by subtraction.

Craw is homeless man’s Monta, and Maggette is a selfish, lazy version of Azubuike, making three times the salary.

I’m happy to stick “what we got” assuming what we got is our young core: Monta, Azubuike, Morrow, Randolph, Wright, Biedrins, Turiaf, plus lots of salary flexibility, plus a high pick in next year’s draft. (Plus I suppose Jack — way overpaid, but we need a vet and spiritual leader; and at least he can play decent D when he puts his mind to it and isn’t exhausted from trying to score 20 points a game).

trade

trade crawford, jackson, maggette, KA7, and ronny turiaf for marc gasol. that’s a steal. just like when they traded pau gasol for kwame. we’ll get rid of all our busts and get an all-star player.

Way easier said than done.

Until then, the Warriors will be the same old struggling team with the true Cancers on this team.
Only good side of the Warriors roster includes:Biedrins, Bellinelli, Azabuike, Turiaf, Morrow, CJ, Monta( IF he stays), Stack Jack(not sure),Crawford(maybe)

by AlbinoWhale on Jan 12, 2009 4:23 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yea because Larry Brown will just love Crawford.

by sam23 on Jan 12, 2009 6:38 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I perosonally like Crawford...

And I would like to see what he looks like playing alongside Monta before we bash on him.

Everyone was hating on Maggs like he was a horrible player. But the last few games he has kept us in the game by getting to the line and hitting shots. If he decreases his turnovers he is not THAT bad. so don’t knock it till you rock it.

by shooter1525 on Jan 12, 2009 5:28 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Here’s what Crawford will look like alongside Monta:

Once every 4 or 5 games, he’ll go off for a big scoring night. He’ll have a respectable A:TO (not great, but respectable) ratio but not really seem to direct an offense. His rebounding will be poor, making you wonder if a guy standing 6-6 couldn’t get more rebounds if he just closed his eyes and grabbed blindly at the air and making you realize that a “big” guard is only an asset if he plays big. He’ll play Charmin-soft defense, but he’ll get along with people.

It will be a big departure from how he’s played for the last 8 years, where once every 4 or 5 games, he’s gone off for a big scoring night, had a respectable A:TO (not great, but respectable) ratio but not really seem to direct an offense, rebounded poorly, making you wonder if a guy standing 6-6 couldn’t get more rebounds if he just closed his eyes and grabbed blindly at the air and made it clear that a “big” guard is only an asset if he plays big and he’s played Charmin-soft defense, but he’ll gotten along with people.

Is Crawford really needed once Monta's back?

Maybe a better question is, Is Montay really needed now that we have Crawford? They are both good 2 guards but we might get more for Montay in a trade? Say we do a good job of securing a high pick for the rest of the season, then use the high draft pick and a trade of Montay for a power forward and a point? Wouldn’t moped bring in a better player than crawfish?

Only if

Crawford stops throwing up the 3 before any other players have touched the ball when they are in an offensive slump, d’s up better and looks to pass at least 50% more.

Leave the team alone for the rest of the year playing Beli, Randolf, Wright, Ellis (on return) and see what you have. Wrap Biedrins’ left hand in a cast and force him to shoot right for the rest of this year(like Oden in college). Have Kelenna continue what he’s doing but fine him for all fall away shots and see what can be done in the off season to move Jackson and Magg, potentially move Crawford

sorry i pressed the wrong button

but let’s trade all 3 of them to the 3 best teams in the nba for future second round draft picks so we get the 58th pick, 59th pick, and 60th pick of the draft. then we waive monta to make room for them.

the 3 best teams

(take your pick from Orlando, Boston, Cleveland, and the Lakers) are all over the salary cap so we would have to take back salary in return.

Too bad our front office is such a debacle, otherwise we might be good someday...
