Monta Ellis: The Countdown Begins
Big ups to Matt Steinmetz for reporting on all things warriors. I'm a fan. He just posted a video at the examiner, where he shows Monta at full speed in an actual 5 on 5 practice game, for the first time since the injury.
Also reported by Steinmetz just moments ago (link here), Monta addressed the rumors of being unhappy w/the team. Go to examiner and hook Steinmetz up w/some hits to read the whole story, but basically here's what he had to say:
"Listen," Ellis said. "Whatever it is about me leaving, wanting to go, not wanting to play for Nellie, that never came from my mouth. I don't know where they got that from. I'm here for the next six years. I'm a Warrior; I'm always going to be a Warrior. Whoever put that out there did it because they wanted a story.
"I'm making it known right now I'm a Warrior, and I love playing for Nellie, and I never said that (he didn't like playing for Nelson), not one time. So you don't have to worry about that."
Good first step by Monta to regain the trust of his fans.
My hope is that this, coupled w/recent articles regarding Randolph's maturity, put to rest certain sensationalist bay area media people trying to create stories where there aren't any (see: front page). It's not as interesting as OMG DON NELSON v RANDOLPH CAGE MATCH, but maybe it'll force everyone to concentrate on bball and the development of the players.
I can't *wait* to see a full gsw squad out on the floor at once. The depth is there. The bigs we so desperately need may be right under nose in Wright and Randolph. Belinelli has shown flashes of bball iq brilliance. CJ Watson is collld blooded and ideal for a backup scoring pg. Sjax, when he's not asked to be your first option, takes a good team and makes it great. Biendris earns his contract nightly out on the floor. Crawford is not Al Harrington. I've been tough on Mags- but if he's used correctly he's efficient at what he does (Biendris is similar, no?)
Monta, with his quickness, opens things up for the ENTIRE team. Can't double team the hottest warrior anymore, otherwise he'll blow past you. Biendris suffered when teams focused on him. Jax became a turnover machine when asked to shoulder the load. When Monta comes back...it'll give everyone on the team an extra split second, a more open shot, and a chance to do what they do best.
Monta is still learning to play defense, but it'll sure beat Watson's turnstyle on a nightly basis. He's fast and gets in the lane. I am beyond anxious to see what this team is capable of w/ME8 at the helm.
Let the countdown begin!
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

CJ
CJ is a decent backup to monta – both are fast, up tempo players, have deadly mid range jumpers (CJ’s has won us two games with it) and play little defence. CJ’s main D strength is steals and deflections – monta I can’t remember since he has been gone for so long.

I hope Tim K. got to read this:
"Tim K. down! Ellis just hacked the hack in the nutz.
HEY TIM, YOU STILL FEELING GOOD? Or is the noose around your credibility starting to get tighter?
Great work as usual Matt. Thanks for the update."
Can’t wait to see Ellis play.

yeah
Generally I’ve been a TK defender, just because buried in his sensationalistic blogs there is sometimes a bit of actual info. Lately though, he’s been a bit much. Even for TK. How badly does he want out of the Bay Area, to pull a Ric Bucher and ride a nelson/webber conflict to an ESPN pay day?
"They can trade me," Bonds said. "I don't think they will, though. It's not like I want to be traded, man. I'm a Giant. I'm stuck here till the end."

i'd have to agree with you
i agree that at times he is very informative and he does have a lot of access as to what goes on within the warriors franchise but maybe he has been a bit much. he actually had me worried about Monta a little bit but i actually thought about it and realized that until it actually happens, it was all just a bunch of BS. Maybe he is loking for a big story so that he can get a big ESPN pay day. If that’s the case, screw him. This franchise is already jacked up enough and to have a reporter try to make things worse is just terrible.

I hope they announce which game he'll make his season debut in.
That way i can get the day off. Sucks being a season ticket holder and not even being able to go to every game because of work.

CJ with a corner three, and then monta with a mid range jump shot. Super small ball.

Good for Monta and good for us
And who cares what Tim K says, he’s a reporter, they stir crap up, thats how they sell papers. I dont see why people are so up in arms about him and what he writes. You’d think there was a law reporters must write the truth and nothing but the truth and he’s the only one that breaks it. Just dont read his column. If I had a nickle for every time someone has mentioned him on this site in the last 2 weeks… Dont you realize any publicity is good publicity? The more you say his name the more he benefits! This got way off topic but its just getting annoying, Tim k this, Tim k that, enough already! Tell me someone else is getting annoyed!

i'm with you
But as a fan of the organization, i can see why people can get upset at this guy. He has more insight as to what goes on within the organization than most and that’s why I read. If it’s speculation that he’s talking about, i’ll take it for what it is and if it actually happens then oh well, he’ll be the first to say i told you so. But what i’m saying is, people don’t have to take what he writes so personal. take it for what it is and believe what’s real and you’ll know somethings real if it actually happens. Who knows? maybe the stuff he actually writes about may have some truth to it but the warriors public relations just comes up with a perfect way to cover it up. i don’t know. It is pretty annoying though. I’ll still continue to read TK’s articles, i find i agree with him on a lot of subjects (not all).

I can't wait...
…Until Monta Ellis finally rejoins this squad. This season has been very upsetting thus far. The warriors have been hit with all sorts of adversity this season and we have not yet seen our full lineup out there and what they are capable of. Monta (if completely healthy) will instantly change the dynamics of this team. This team is built on running and with their fastest playmaker on the sideline, they just have not been able to do that. With so many defensive liabilities on one team, there must be a way to counteract our defensive lapses. Our answer to that is running and attacking quickly with our offense. Monta is the missing ingredient to this team. At 23 years of age and with 3 seasons under his belt, I’m looking for Monta to step into his leadership role nicely and take it upon himself to help bring our rookies along. Obviously, he hurt the team when he got into his moped injury but I think that he will take this situation and come back even stronger because of it. When Monta finally steps on that court along with everyone healthy, that will mark the real beginning of the Warriors 08-09 season! Warriors…come out and plaaaaaaayyy!!

TK
has become a form of a heckler… paparatzi, some what. There was a time not too long ago he was the voice of bay area sporting news, now he’s just irritating and comparable to Skip Bayless! I look to MT2 if Matt Steinmetz for authentic GSW news. TK’s view are not for the weary, I can say that much.

Full Interview with Monta
http://www.ibabuzz.com/warriors/2009/01/13/inside-practice-jan-13/
Only concern:
“Why was Corey guarding Monta? Because Marcus Williams was, and when Williams was trying to front Corey on defense, Corey just threw him aside. That happened before I arrived, but I’m told it prompted the switch and Corey was told to chill out.
Why was Corey so aggressive ? Jamal Crawford said because Monta was talking trash and he thinks it got Corey going a bit.”
Marcus bothering Corey? Perhaps he is our best defender?
by mosdl on Jan 13, 2009 4:17 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
it says… “Corey just threw him aside.” lol
I get it. If Marcus Williams can’t even guard our own players in practice, I can see why Nelson won’t let him play in games. Maybe he should be guarding CJ?

Maggette read some of the content in these blogs.

I like the part of the interview.......
where Monta is vocal and trying to lift everyone up in practice. I have never seen a bunch of players on an NBA team that lacked sooooo much emotion. Did anyone see Jax try to rile up CJ right after the win in against the Pacers? I mean are u really suppose to have him one get excited for u after a close win???
by nuttinbutnet on Jan 13, 2009 4:47 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
CJ was full of emotion when he beat the celtics
After coming to the bench after hitting those 2 consecutive jumpers, dude was super happy and showing it. The pacer game though was a mess :)
by mosdl on Jan 13, 2009 4:50 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Update
“Maggette was careful not to deliver a similar elbow to Ellis as he did to Williams when Williams tried to front him on one occasion. Maggette pushed Williams away with his right arm, a move that sent Williams bouncing across the court.”
Sounds like maggs was just over doing it.

what
are the chances they all return together.
We can have one big return of Jackson, Ellis, Belinelli and Wright. LOL… watch by that time Maggs will be out with strained hamstring, Crawford strained groin. We’ll never have a complete team this season.

Didn't we hear the same thing from Baron?
I remember a interview Baron Davis gave on the Dan Patrick show a year or so back before the trade deadline where he said, and im mostly quoting now, " Oh most definetly, I’m going to be a Warrior next season, no question."
As for Ellis, I’ll believe it when it happens, this front office is too screwed up right now to believe that anything is law until its written.
