Whatever it is about me leaving, wanting to go, I don’t want to play for Nellie - that never came from my mouth. I don’t know where they got that from. But I’m here for the next six years. I’m a Warrior. I’m always going to be a Warrior. Whoever put that out there, they did it because they wanted a story. I’m making it known right now. I’m a Warrior. I love playing for Nellie. I never said that not one time. So you don’t have to worry about that.

i stopped reading TK… but just out of curiosity – what’s Monta’s supposed reason for hating Nellie?
by the evil monkey on Jan 14, 2009 11:17 AM PST reply actions
According to TK...
…it’s because Ellis is mad about Nelson mistreating him when he first started coaching him and that he wanted to trade Ellis for Acie Law in 2007. And that seeing what Nellie is “doing” to Randolph has reminded him of this prior mistreatment. Or something.
Of course, if Ellis were still pissed off about what happened years ago you’d think he might not have signed a six year deal this offseason…
Also...
I’m not sure if Monta mentioned it, but when J-Rich and Baron were injured during the playoff chase in the regular season of 2006-07, Nellie put his trust in Monta to help the team win the playoff spot and Monta stepped up his game. Nellie then later rewarded him with the ’tough love" treatmeant in the Playoffs.
I believe it was Game 2 of the Playoffs in Dallas where Monta scored a total of 20 points, shot 8-15 from the field, 4-4 FT%. I think it was the 3rd quarter? when he was on fire, scoring 14 points in a row and should have finished the game with 30 points or more, but Nellie took him out.
It absolutely blew my mind because Dallas didn’t know what to do with him when he had the hot hand and Nellie benches him. Warriors lose 99-112.
I’m pretty sure Monta was seriously pissed off and confused as hell. It be one thing for Nellie to give him tough constructive criticism, but I don’t get the silent treatment he gave him that year in the playoffs. Go ahead and be tough on the guy if thats how you deal with players, but I think communication with the players are always important. Monta was only 21 or 22 at the time and he was the one who helped you get into the post season.
I got over that whole issue because Monta got his playing time the next year surprisingly. My question is, does Monta hold a grudge on all that? I know Gilbert Arenas held alot of grudges on the Warriors.
I hope Monta backs up his word about, “I’m a WaRRIORS and i’ll always be a WaRRIORS”

sounds pretty farfetched.
i can understand Monta being upset with Rowell, but it still doesn’t make a lot of sense for him to be holding a Nellie grudge. Nellie/AR is at least believable (even if likely overstated).
btw, he got taken out in that game for defensive reasons. b/c they were switching pick and roll and he kept getting stuck on Dirk – not coincidentally, it was the only time Dirk looked effective in the post in that series.

Ya.
I would think Monta got over the mistreatment from Nellie back in 07, but you never know what any player is actually thinking. Him being upset with Rowell now… could domino effect back down to his past with the Dubs. Hope he cares less about the front office and has more respect for the loyal fans that want him here. That’s more important now that he will be getting paid (if there aren’t any more further issues with his contract).
Evil monkey, how do you feel about Nellie giving Monta the silent treatment back in the 2007 Playoffs? I know it was back in the past but in my opinion its an issue because you don’t do that kind of stuff to players with possible star potential. Like I said, constructive criticism and harshness is fine, but always establish communication with these players because you don’t want to rub them off the wrong way.
Btw, thanks for your input on why Monta got taken out. Agreed. That is Monta’s weakness. It’s just tough when a player is on fire on the offensive end.

???
It was playoffs, Monta was role player at the time. And they pulled off the greatest upset in Playoff history. How could you possibly spin it that Monta was pissed starting back then. Hell, we traded J-Rich to clear a spot in the starting lineup for him and we got even better with a 48 win season (granted it wasn’t enough to make the playoff, but that was freak occurrence). I really don’t get this conspiracy theory that Monta always been pissed at the Warriors. If so, he couldn’t have signed the extension this past summer so that he could be an unrestricted FA this summer.
Now I completely understand Monta now being pissed off with the Warrior brass after how they handled the moped incident. But to weave your own interpretation of the past is, in my opinion, ridiculous.
A Sonics fan without a team.. Though I'm auditioning GS Warriors this season.

Sup Man!
Thats cool. Just my opinion.
I said: you never know what any player is actually thinking
Monta worked hard to get his playing time and finally got it due to the J-Rich & Baron injuries. Then he became a role player in the playoffs especially when J-Rich & Baron came back. Maybe he was fine with that but I think the real issue was the way Nellie treated him back then. I think at the time he felt his hard work was being disrespected.
With what mikedish mentioned of how Nellie is treating AR, who knows what Monta is thinking.
I’m sure everything was all good and squashed when the 2 spot opened up for him the next year (as you mentioned).
Who knows what he is thinking now after the Moped incident.
It’s all assumptions from my point of view and I hope I’m wrong because I want Monta to stay.
If he does leave and brings up those negative points as the reasons, it would be highly dissapointing.

at the time, i never thought much of it.
Monta seemed like the Tony Parker/Duncan type that could take criticism. it always seemed like the media was trying to make something of it, but Monta always seemed to blow it off as “Nellie just sees something in me and wants to make me great”.
i wouldn’t be surprised if Monta’s agent had a beef with Rowell, but Monta & Nellie? seemed like Nellie was steadily giving Monta more responsibility and that Monta realized this and that’s why he made that quote of telling the other young guys that “it’s a process.” and he said something like he wanted to help the other young guys realize that Nellie wasn’t trying to beat them down and all that.
i actually don’t have a problem with Nellie’s handling of the young guys – most veteran coaches are all the same… see Phil (think of Bynum, Farmar, Vujacic, etc), Sloan, Larry Brown, Riley, etc. even Skiles, McMillan, Cheeks, Rivers kind of follow that mold. Joe Alexander, Bayless, Speights.
my problem with Nellie is either he hasn’t coached enough defense or made enough of an effort to play defensive players since his Bucks teams. that and he overplays his best players.

Good Points.
Hope that’s the attitude Monta really took with Nellie.

I’d be suprised if Monta’s agent didn’t have a beef with Rowell, seeing as how it’s his job to make sure his client gets paid. But given that it’s his job to fight for his clients’ $$, I don’t see how that could really burn any bridges anywhere… they were all doing their job. Anybody who faults somebody for doing their job is a petty, selfish moron.
And seriously, don’t ever include Doc Rivers in any list of “veteran coaches” that includes good coaches. Without KG, he’d have been fired before this time last year. All Boston fans were critical of him and his team sucked. Then he lucks into a good situation and all is forgiven because the team was/is winning.

Though i dont trust TK either, Really what else is Monta supposed to say?
“im just trying to get better so i can get the hell outta here”
well he could have not said anything at all
if you read the full interview, you’ll see that monta wasn’t prompted into saying much, and especially nothing that elaborate. i am convinced that monta really feels this way.
I myself wonder if Monta will even play this season
I’ll believe it when I see it. If he doesn’t, at least he’ll be healed to go for the start of next season fresh.
ellis
is pissed at the organization from taking away baron, jrich, barnes, al. now all hes got left is jackson and biedrins.
True. Especially Baron.
But I think he really is excited to play with Jamal Crawford.
If that fails, then I think he’ll really be pissed off.

Any1 read monta's three keys
one of them is that when he expects to come, the dubs make the playoffs. As much as i love monta, he might just be wrong on this 1
if there is any truth to what TK is claiming..
then most people are absolutely being fooled by the warriors organization and or Dan Fegan/Monta Ellis. Why wouldn’t Monta be mad about the whole situation, i mean, he did try to dispute the terms of his punishment and really..how could anyone not be mad? I mean he was the one that screwed up but he still can be mad and it will automatically create drama between the player and the front office. Maybe now that someone (Tim K.) actually was able to uncover the truth a little bit, the warriors and or Fegan/ Ellis had to come up with a plan to cover it up. All i know is Monta lied before and he is capable of lying again. it’s the politics of the NBA. I seriously hope he’s not lying about this though.

You're right
TK is the angel here, everybody else is in some giant conspiracy. Even if Monta does leave, which he likely won’t, TK is still just a rumor monger. Throw enough crap at the wall and eventually something will stick.

Although my opinion doesn't necessarily matter
Monta is a MASTER of deception if he is lying here. I would take him at his word, y’all. No, I can’t say for SURE that he is telling the truth (he hasn’t agreed to being strapped to a lie detector for me just yet), but I am of the opinion that this was something that was REALLY blown out of proportion.

Sources? Are you using sources? You obviously haven’t been to any of TK’s seminars. You don’t need sources to write articles, you’re working way too hard.

My take on Kawakami
I think that the Warriors have stopped talking to him because all he does is write controversial stuff about this or that. So he’s pissed off and writing even more controversially. Whatever.
