What to Believe about the 2nd half of the season?
The first half of the season has been something we, as Warriors fans, want to forget about all together. 41 games plagued by injuries and drama, not only on the floor (Harrington, Randolph), but also in the Front Office. 12 and 29 is a filthy record, and any team who starts a season with this record should plan the rest of their games as a forfeit.... thinking towards the lottery.
But not the Warriors.
Warriors still claim potential playoff birth. Monta Ellis says he expects a massive turn around in the second half (with him back), and promotes that he "plans on making the playoffs." Capt Jax told Fitz & Brooks last Friday that the Warriors are "only 13 games back of a playoff spot. 41 games is a long way to go, look as us 2 seasons ago."
Why do they still believe? Do we still believe? Is there hope?
What we can believe in is a soon to be unified, semi-healthy team. Injuries have obviously held our impact players out for most of the season; but more importantly, injures have disabled any potential in forming team chemistry and cohesion on the floor. The first taste of team chemistry I've seen for a full game this season was against the hawks Friday. Warriors were a TEAM, fighting and scrapping in the last 2 minutes towards a victory.
Crawford looks to be dishing out assists without effort (over the shoulder, no look to Turiaf was ill!) Maggette seems to have accepted his role as the teams 6th man, and not the go to guy. Unlike the usual selfish Maggette, his new mentality is one of team mentality... shocking, but easily embraced. Jax is Jax. Yeah he takes bad shots, but his passing skills have improved after Don forced him into the PG position early in the year. And his defensive intensity improves the team defense as a whole. Monta Ellis? Although his is no savior, he is a star (and soon to be superstar). Adding a star of his caliber to any team (especially one in desperate need of a PG) makes them that much better. His morale (so damn positive all the time) not only keeps himself playing at his best, but he becomes the emotional leader for a team full of impressionable young guys, and vets who don't know how to win (Crawford, Maggette).
And dare i say, our bench?... I mean starters?.... wait... yeah it's our bench now. They've gotten so much experience on the floor, we have to expect to have one of the deepest benches in the league. Yes the young guys are still growing, but extended playing time has refined their games quite a bit, and we can expect a night by night game impact from the 2nd unit.
In other words, the 2nd half of the season is a "new" season, full of new hopes, new dreams... and being down in the hole 13 games.
What should we expect/hope for? A playoff birth? An amazing second half?... or more disappointment?

What should we expect/hope for?
expect? Nelson plays vets as much as he can despite this season being the obvious opportunity to develop younger players (particularly Wright)
hope for? luck in the lottery

playoffs?
don’t talk about playoffs, you kidding me?
i think its about finding that happy balance. helping the rookies find their groove by giving them minutes as role players while still obviously focusing on the vets. Really, the main focus of the season should be figure out what are rookies are capable of so we can know what trades need to be made for next season.

.500 is about the best goal we can achieve right now
or how close we can be to the #9 spot. Or playing spoiler to the playoff hopefuls.
Maggette is definitely accepting his role. I haven’t heard anyone call him a black hole on offense since he came back from injury.

ya, hes been significantly better
i can see his potential as being a great off the bench 6th man for jack to get some rest, or for small ball (but preferably just for jack to rest, since jack plays wayyy better rested and is far less turnover prone)
You know I spit technique to the freshest freak
Gimme a call you will see results in just a week

Anthony Morrow aka Mistah 37
Nah, I still have a ton of hope for this season. Just too lazy to express my optimism right now.

the only — and inevitable — disappointment is monta’s speedy return and a less than favorable ball drop in the lottery

hope? that we play the young guys more (which is the recipe for tanking – ala Boston the Oden/Durant year when Pierce was supposedly injured).
expect? we’ll play the vets just enough to get to 25-30 win range instead of the 18-23 win range that the young guys would get us to.
be nice if the Mavs or Suns panic and make another trade for a geezer. then there’s only the Lakers, Hornets, Jazz, Blazers, Spurs, Nuggets, and Rockets who are likely to still make the playoffs next year.
and hopefully neither the Twolves, Memphis, or OKC land a great player.

We have to keep Maggette now
He is a perfect 6th man. Yeah he has a big contract… but he does wonders off the bench, as long as he knows his role

Definitely don't trade Maggette
I think sooner than later, the Warriors need to evaluate who they want to keep, Wright or Randolph. I like both, but throwing one of the two in a deal with Watson, who’s stock right now is very high, is what I think could net us a pretty nice PF to give us the size, rebounds, and inside presence we still need to beat big tough teams like the Lakers and Spurs. Based upon what I’ve seen, I’d say keep Randolph and trade Wright. I like Wright, his game is steady and you can count on him to do certain things right now, but there is a fire in Randolph that we all have seen at times that tells you this kid could be something special. Slowly but surely, things seem to be clicking for Randolph and I can envision him coming back next year a much better player after seeing what he is capable of and how much work he still needs to put in.

Thank God we didnt sign Arenas
Arenas: why come back, we suck this year
Monta: I’m coming back and we will make the playoffs
I am voting for a .500 team at the end of the year which will be an incredibly entertaining second half of the season and show the NBA Monta is the man. Thank God we have players with that kind of character on our roster. I dont care if we lose 50 more games, I like the team we have right now and want to watch the games.

Well, no one ever claimed Montay was smart. Yeah, he might come back and screw up our lottery chances but hey it’s all about Montay. These other guys have put a lot of effort into tanking but does Montay care?

Who cares about the lottery
We are young enough already, and we don’t need any more youngsters who need 2/3 more years to bloom.
We need to play to win… every game. These young guys will learn to play together, and that how games/playoffs/finals are won!

Who cares about the lottery ?!
you should – that’s the best way to stockpile talent cheaply
whether we’re young or not – gotta have talent to trade for talent & gotta have depth to win

he cares
he wold have played a month ago if the team would let him. Monta is a real gamer, just not too bright, but that can change as he gets older.

but that can change as he gets older.
People don’t get smarter as they get older, they just get more experienced till one day they start to go senile. Think …Montay, JRich, Nellie.

I love the optimism
But i doubt we really can make a real run at a playoff spot. Maybe if Baron was back and Monta was at full strength. I just want to see good games and i don’t care too much about the lottery. If we get lucky then we get lucky but right now i’m gonna take it one game at a time and continue to root for the warriors no matter how bad our record is. i’ve always thought we had a lot of talent on our team already. I just want to see if we can continue to play competitively and make a couple of runs. possibly even play spoilers to teams that i can’t stand like the Mavs and the Rockets. I still am not Don Nelson’s biggest fan by a long shot but he’s shown more passion in the past couple of games and I’d like to see him break the record for most wins as a coach but after that i still want him out! No matter what though, I was born a Warrior fan, raised a Warrior fan and i’m gonna die a Warriors fan!
