OPEN THREAD: Warriors vs Wizards - GSoM Kids Day!!

Win or lose, today is going to be a good one!

For years, the GSoM community has been an excellent source for all news Warriors. Fueled by the knowledge and dedication of its readers, GSoM has become an incredible community; one that the writers are sincerely proud of.

But like any good community, it is our social responsibility to ensure that we are contributing, as well as consuming. It seems only fitting that we have this opportunity on a day like today - Martin Luther King day.

Mlk_medium

"An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity."

- Martin Luther King Jr.

Warriors (W-L): 12-29

Wizards (W-L) - 8-31

Tip-Off - 1:00pm PST

TV: CSN

Radio: KNBR

Today is first GSoM Kids Day. Thanks to enormous assistance by the Golden State Warriors we were able to reach out and offer tickets to today's game to children from a number of Bay Area youth organizations who would relish the chance to watch their favorite team at the Oracle Arena.

Today's organizations include children from Bay Area Youth, Youth Speaks, Oakland Children's Hospital, Dream League, Be A Mentor, American Indian Child Resource Center, and Healthy Oakland. Sincerest thanks to GSoM friend Chris Murphy from the Golden State Warriors as well as enormous props to Fantasy Junkie for running point for all of us on putting this great project together.

While today promises to be a great time no matter what, a win would certainly be the icing on the cake. After all, we are matching up against the worst team in the NBA. But if I learned anything, it's that the Warriors are the most unpredictable team out there. A team that could win against Boston, and lose against...

Well let's just go out there and seal this one up, shall we? C'mon Warriors! DO IT FOR THE KIDS!!!

Predictions:

  • GSoM Kids have a GREAT TIME OUT!
  • Caron Butler goes for 25 plus
  • Antawn makes some ugly shots.
  • Monta's debut? Not yet.
  • Warriors by 5

No Marco/CJ probably

And obviously no monta/bwright. So still down 3 starters.

Our best chance is if we can keep our TOs down and rebound well. Last game Maggs was the rebound king, lets hope he can continue. As for TOs – Sjax will have to be more careful.

Were gonna finally see Marcus play

I’m sure Marcus will get plenty of time today and jermareo davidson… It’s going to be fun to see what these guys could do. I think Morrow is gonna go off tonight too. Interesting to see how our bench will beat these guys.

Who will play the 4?

Will AR start or maggs? Or possibly even Kurz? Or Nellie Forbid, Turiaf?

by mosdl on Jan 19, 2009 10:34 AM PST reply actions

i actually disagree. i think maggs wont start and will come off being the 6th man for the rest of the games from here on out because thats how the projected lineup will be when ellis returns.

Another Benefit to Working At Home

Take laptop to couch and answer emails while watching the warriors. Warriors better win to make me not feel bad about not working hard. Of course, we tend to beat good teams and loose to bad ones…

Monta WANTS to play but Warriors won't let him...

Hopefully he plays against the Thunder, it’s not like he got injured during a BASKETBALLGAME,(except his lie), only way he can get it injured again is if he gets on a Moped again..

i love the offiating tonight, they arent callin ghost fouls on AB

by THIZZ-A-LOT on Jan 19, 2009 1:34 PM PST reply actions

Maggs is owning the game

Scoring with ease, setting up morrow. 3 asts already

by mosdl on Jan 19, 2009 1:45 PM PST reply actions

I'm sorry

could you repeat that for me? I didn’t read you right. Did you just say Maggette and assist in the same post?

Yea RONNY!

Let’s go Warriors still.

by Shells on Jan 19, 2009 1:49 PM PST reply actions

3 fouls on Ronny now

Time for AB to come back in. Good effort by Ronny though.

by worldblee on Jan 19, 2009 1:52 PM PST reply actions

Morrow not getting passes

He was free on at least 3 plays (his defender was away from him, helping in the inside because of maggs) and no one passed to him. A little bit too selfish playing going on here.

by mosdl on Jan 19, 2009 1:53 PM PST reply actions

see so morrows off, but they should get him a few looks everygame early to see if he's going to be Clippers game crazy

but the great thing about him is that, he can still get rebounds, tips, and his D is getting better

by THIZZ-A-LOT on Jan 19, 2009 2:00 PM PST reply actions

AM needs more open looks to get started

Then he’ll be able to score from shots that he creates on his own.

by worldblee on Jan 19, 2009 2:01 PM PST reply actions

Small collapse coming

Not taking good shots. Beans with 0 pts too, which is unusual.

Morrow – man, his D closes out on him really fast when he gets the ball. He needs to move a bit more.

by mosdl on Jan 19, 2009 2:01 PM PST reply actions

True...

They need to get him coming off some screens. He seems to float out by the three point line a lot to stretch the D but he is good enough offensively to run some sets for.

Thing 2

by olympicmike on Jan 19, 2009 2:06 PM PST reply actions

man our "big 3"

plus Monta! + AB having a normal point game! we might got somthing

by THIZZ-A-LOT on Jan 19, 2009 2:08 PM PST reply actions

Too many guards

Marco at pg, ellis at 2, so who takes the 3rd? Sjax or jc? Unles JC is our pg and marco backs him up?

Cause the 4 needs to be bwright or AR and maggs can backup that.

by mosdl on Jan 19, 2009 2:11 PM PST up reply actions

Marco won't start

I think you have it right with JC starting and Morrow/Marco/CJ along with Kelenna being the backup guards. We’ll have 12 guys who can play in the NBA: JC, Monta, Jax, Brandan, AB as starters, Morrow, Marco, CJ, Kelenna, Corey, AR, and Ronny off the bench

by worldblee on Jan 19, 2009 2:13 PM PST up reply actions

The PG position will be interesting

Not sure who is better, marco or jamal. Marco had some nice playing before his injury. But I guess having too many pg prospects ain’t a bad problem.

by mosdl on Jan 19, 2009 2:16 PM PST up reply actions

Pg...

With no true point on the roster they will likely give Monta a shot first.

Thing 2

by olympicmike on Jan 19, 2009 2:17 PM PST up reply actions

kinda getting me hopfull for next season!

i wonder how many of them we’ll trade in the off season for more project players

by THIZZ-A-LOT on Jan 19, 2009 2:13 PM PST up reply actions

jamal has an opt out chance

A lot of people say he will take it to get a long term deal. A contender could look at him as a great 6th man. So he may be gone.

by mosdl on Jan 19, 2009 2:14 PM PST up reply actions

maggs

3 reb, 3asts and leading all scorers with 16

He might be getting 6th man awards soon.

by mosdl on Jan 19, 2009 2:13 PM PST reply actions

even if Monta & CJ were out for the year, i doubt JC getting burnt out is going to be much of a concern this season.

most times, non-playoff contending teams play nothing but young players for the last 10-15 games anyway (see the Warriors after and before Nellie – or any other bad team. if you stuck around, that’s when guys like Diogu exploded statistically for us. a recent example – that’s why Sessions came out of nowhere last season.
