Rasheed
ESPN columnist Chris Broussard stated in NBA Coast to Coast earlier today that the Pistons are letting Rasheed Wallace walk after this season just for cap room relief. I want to know what the Warrior fans think about bringing in Rasheed. I personally would love to try to sign him this off season without hurting our salary cap of course. Now before everyone starts hating me for wanting to bring him in, let's not think about his on court antics and take a look at what positives he brings to the table:
12 pts 8 reb 1.5 blks 47% 2pt field goals and 36 from long range.
since we're stuck with Nellie for another season or 2, wouldn't you say he fits right in? i like the fact that he spreads the floor so Monta can do his thing going to the rack and he is under rated for his D. I have never seen one of the best help and recover player that can cover so much ground. not to mention him and jack will bring some kind of intimidation( and a collection of techs) so other teams will have that scared look that Randolph always has on his face.

Love Sheed
For the right price. But, the guy has an attitude and a problem with work ethic. There’s no doubt he’s a great player, but the guy’s a T magnet.
by rishbob on Jan 20, 2009 8:55 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
Actually,
Sheed is known to be a great locker room guy. It just seems like he has an attitude problem because he’s always getting into it with refs but who doesn’t. this is the guy that said the nba was fake and that was long before the ref scandal and the lakers vs kings infamous game in the playoffs. so i guess he has a reason to complain to refs all the time.

at least he has some heart and is passionate about the game.

I'll take him...
if he’ll sign for the MLE which is all we’ll have to offer him. I haven’t looked at our salary situation in a while but I’m not sure how much space we’ll have under the tax before offseason signings. We might not even use the whole MLE.
Of course we probably wouldn’t be the only team willing to offer him that much so there is no way he’d come here. Oh well.

whats the situation with Crawford? is his contract up after this season?
by Somar on Jan 20, 2009 9:20 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Crawford has a player option, he can opt out of $19m/2yrs in the offseason if he wants to. I’m going to go out on a limb and say he most definitely will not opt out..

if he keeps up this level of play
he might opt out to get a long term deal.

I think that anyone who has the cap room next offseason to sign a $10mil guy like Crawford would just hold onto that capspace for a much crazier 2010 Free Agency.
by YaHeard on Jan 20, 2009 11:17 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
most teams that dont already have one of the big 2010 guys or arent in the NY area are going to have to realize they arent really going to be big players in the 2010 “bonanza” (which I think is just gonna be one or maybe two big name guys at most switching teams and most of them re-signing with their current squads) I dont buy it that EVERYONE is getting ready for 2010. 5-7 teams are, yes. But the rest cant be realistically thinking they are gonna land a Bosh/LeBron/Wade golden ticket.

it does not hurt to try
the free agent list for 2010 is like an all star line up. aside from bron, bosh, and wade, there’s:
amare
kobe
pierce
dirk
josh howard
tashaun prince
brandan wright
yao
richard jefferson
redd
tyson chandler
peja
durant
j-rich
tony parker
ak47
caron butler
and
hamed haddadi.
a lot of these guys are not happy with their current situation and want a change. i cant believe lebron, bosh and wade over shadowed all these other guys. yes, a lot might sign with their current teams but you’ll never know!

I dont see any more than 2 of those who would make a significant impact leaving their teams.

Kobe can opt out after this year. And he probably will just to sign a multi year extension
Dirk has said he’ll take a less than max contract to stay in Dallas.
As long as Allen and KG are still there, Pierce isnt going anywhere.
Can you really see Parker leaving SA?
Amare and Yao are a bit more likely to leave, but even with them I’d say the smart money is probably on their current teams at this point. PHX will likely be seeking to build around Amare and he’ll finally be the go to guy like he wants to be. Similarly, TMac’s tenure in Houston looks to be drawing to a close in Houston in the next couple years so the Rockets will likely have to blow the whole thing up and start completely over or try to build around Yao all over again.

I’m thinking those 5-7 teams with cap space would probably save their space for just the chance of landing any of those free agents listed below, it would be alot wiser than just throwing $10m/yr at Jamal Crawford next offseason. I’m sure Jamal Crawford and his agent gotta be aware of that too, I just don’t see Jamal opting out.
by YaHeard on Jan 21, 2009 1:25 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
but
It wouldnt necessarily take 10 mil per to land Jamal. A long term deal at mid-level money with a contender could be more enticing to Crawford than returning for 2 years.

I would take him in a second
A shooting, rebounding PF to stick next to Biedrins would take the Warriors to the next level IMO. It would probably also mean that we would need to trade someone in order to afford him since we would have to overpay him(not sure who, I like Crawford, Maggette as our 6th man is perfect, I’m sentimental with Jackson even with his TO’s,)
Lineup:
Pg: Monta, Belli
SG: Crawford, Belli, Morrow
SF: Jackson, Buike, Randolph/Wright
PF: Rasheed, Randolph/Wright
C: Biedrins, Turiaf
This team looks like it would have a well balanced starting 5 and a deep bench. I left off CJ, even though I like what he’s been doing recently, because IF Monta can come back and assume PG duties affectively enough, I’d rather keep Belli over CJ since Belli has better court vision, defense, and IMO a higher ceiling. CJ is a nice trade piece right now, but in the offseason he will be in line to receive a decent contract for his clutch scoring this season, possibly more than the Warriors want to spend at that juncture (plus his defense is painful to watch most of the time)

I hate Rasheed
But I think that he would work quite well for this team. A big, long, lengthy, rebounding, outside shooting, defending PF/C…hmmm, sounds like its just what this team needs. But, like posted above, we need to get him cheap, and if he’s cheap, odds are we cant get him. Not that a lot of other teams would be looking at him, as many teams would like to avoid his mouth and piss poor attitude, but if the warriors can make a captian out of jackson, then who knows….Seems like he would rather go to clevland or NY or LA. though..you know, one of the mainstream choices where players want to go to be in the spotlight and potentially win a title (assuming NY gets lebron or Cleavland keeps lebron). Too bad though…excellent thought and could be a great additionto this team, but a little far fetched.
by rtgunn on Jan 20, 2009 11:11 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
Rasheed would be a great big for us.
Unfortunately, we won’t have salary cap space. We’re going to be at ~$59m next offseason, the salary cap will be around ~$60m. Corey Maggette’s contract is lookin’ mighty fine right now
Unrelated, looking at the Pistons salary cap situation, they are sitting pretty for the 2010 Free Agency sweepstakes. They’ll only have Prince and his $11mil guaranteed on the payroll, they can go on quite a spending spree during that offseason. Wade, Lebron, Bosh in Detroit 2010! Good lord

I’d like Sheed here, but I dont see how it could happen unless Craw opts out. What about Blatche? He seems like an poor and inconsistent man’s Sheed. (that was for you Jae) It seems like he always plays well against us much like Duhon last year and Duhon seems to have worked out ok in an uptempo system. I dont think this is the kind of deal that will make us a playoff contender but I’d probably be willing to give up one of Belinelli, Wright or Randolph packaged with Williams’ expiring deal to get a trade started , and if the Wizards are tired of his streaky play they might listen.

then you don't know much about basketball
blatche is a lot like odom. he’s a 7 footer with handles and a 3 point shot. i got to see him a couple years ago and they had him running the point during the summer league. whenever he got playing time, he produced this year. the only thing keeping him off the court is his childish attitude but he got skills
by Somar on Jan 21, 2009 9:30 AM PST up reply actions 0 recs
+1 to Blatche.
I was hoping the Warriors were going to draft him in 2005. Wizards took him 49th. Warriors had the 42nd pick and they drafted Chris Taft. I don’t criticize the pick because either way I would have been happy with the pick. I just recall being high on Blatche.
I really liked Chris Taft’s. He probably would have been the missing piece to this team now and in the 2007 playoffs. Probably would have complimented AB on the boards and defense.
Too bad he got injured. Anyone know where he is at now? Was his injury career ending?

Who wouldn’t compliment Andris for how he’s doing on the boards? There are few rebounders in the game. He deserves compliments. Unless he’s a total jerk, Taft would have to admit this as well.
Taft apparently never really recovered from his injuries and the strange inflammatory condition. He briefly tried a stint in the D-league last year, but wasn’t really able to play at that level. It’s too bad. He seemed to have some promise as a serviceable big from the brief time he actually played.

and I actually like the idea of blatche, I also like Maggs but would trade him in some combination for Blatche in a second
by warriorbum on Jan 21, 2009 9:46 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
yea
I would too but Maggette has a long expensive contract where Blatche’s is long and expensive. With Arenas and Jamison inked to large long term deals and a desire to keep Caron Butler and probably DeShawn Stevenson too, I doubt the Wizards will be looking for another big money guy at the 2/3. I think it would definitely cost at least one of Wright/Randolph/Belinelli to land him, but I’d do it. I might even include two of them, but I’m high on Blatche and rather low on those three relative to most Warrior fans and I understand that most around here wouldnt be willing to do that. Williams/Belinelli/Wright for Crittenton/Blatche is a deal I’d make in a heartbeat.

I don’t know Rasheed’s game in and out, but he does seem like a solid all around player that we could really use. But at what price? If BWright, Monta, and Beli are healthy, then I wouldn’t mind seeing Crawford and Maggette traded away, or maybe just Crawford packaged with some youngin’ (Williams, CJ). What is R.Wallace worth? How much is he getting paid now? Because I definitely do think that he’d fit our team really well as starting PF, with BWright backing him up.
