Time To Go Old Man

Old Man Nelson has had his glory days. However, the end of this "great" second era for nelson has got to come to a close. His defensive strategy or lack there-of has become very obvious. At this point on a scale of 1 to 100 (1 being slow or ability) this is how the warriors rate.

Ability:

Offensive Ability: 60

Defensive Ability: With Jax or Maggs at the 4 it would get a 35

With Turiaf/Wright/Randolph in with Biedrins 60

Coaching:

Offensive Tempo: 100

Defensive Pressure: 15

Help Defense: 10(because of Turiaf)

Fast Break: 80

Star-divide

As you see the warriors have the talent on a team with a coach such as George Karl/Rick Adelman (good offensive coach, good defensive coach) this team could still be exciting while averaging 100-105 points a game while giving up 100 a game. Nelson has us around 108 and the other team at 111 which is unacceptable. This clearly means the offense does not have enough chemistry(aka too many guards) or talent(which i dont believe is the case) .

Its time for this old man to retire and get that depo money from Cuban. Bye Bye Miss Don Nelson. Rode My chevy to the levy but the levy was dry. this is the day that i die.....

Can I use those ratings for my NBA2K9 sliders?

15 on Defensive Pressure may be a little high. Though I suspect the Mavs may have had invisible force-fields around their ballhandlers last night.

by JRDub on Jan 29, 2009 8:43 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

lol

it would work but 2k9 wont let any center score unless they have a 99 shot tendency so i always have crawford, jack, monta at 20 a game, and maggette at 15 and beans at 6 lol

I can't say anything just yet

It would depend on who we get for Nellie. If it were Avery Johnson, I’d say do it in a heart beat.

How about...

Hubie Brown. Any chance he could coach this team for 1 year? Would he even want to?

by Colorado Fan on Jan 29, 2009 11:40 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Hell no

He had those Detroit teams. One season even while Big Ben was still there. They got the #1 seed, and still got knocked out in 6 to the Heat.

I say..

Bring in Rick Barry to coach to the team..

.. CSN had this interview with RIck Berry and he said that he was really trying to be the head coach of the team during the Jamison/Arenas era of GSW.. but the higher ups at the time shot him down..

I mean.. why not?.. He looks like the type that the players would really respect and follow and he looks like he dosen’t take any shit neither so… and plus it would be good PR for the team..

Rick Barry

gets no respect. I mean, sure, his personality might be a bit…volatile…but the man knows basketball. I would welcome him to be any part of the Warriors.

i wouldnt do Avery personally..

ive read that he turns his players off, and is too overbearing, and oh yeah, he doesnt coach defense either. Something this ballclub seriously needs to adapt to. Id rather steal Brian Shaw away from the lakers and give him a shot if thats the case.

tough to say, who is even available??

by meximocha on Jan 29, 2009 9:45 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Dallas was a good defensive team once he took over

Then he coached them to the Finals the next year. Imo, the Mavericks were/are currently a team falling off no matter what, so to me, Avery’s not to blame. Plus the smart people over there traded Devin Harris for Jason Kidd (Sarcasm)

by Golden Boy on Jan 29, 2009 2:18 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

how good would they be with a fresh legged Devin Harris

Kidd is great and all, but he’s what? 35? He’s a hall of famer but shouldn’t be expected to carry a team to the promised land anymore.

by Calamity on Jan 29, 2009 6:32 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Nope

I’d love to have him on my team, but as a back-up. He’s just too old now to carry the load full time.

He won’t make the NBA

by Gurthy on Jan 29, 2009 3:44 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Well, the NBA does have a thing for abnormally tall people.

He was 6’0" in the eighth grade, now he is 6’4" in the ninth grade. If he keeps growing I think he can get to the 6’8 area. Did I mention he’s 14?

Nelly has wet dreams about starting Monta at center.

by StSaints408 on Jan 29, 2009 3:56 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Not tryna hate

But do you know how many 6’8" guys DON’T make it to the league that were ranked that high in High School? Or even just guys ranked that high in general. In the Bay Area alone, there have been dozens of players that were beasts in High School that never became college stars. They had good college careers, but the way they looked to all of us watching, we thought they’d be lottery picks. Just to name a few: DeMarcus Nelson, Quentin Thomas, Armondo Surratt, Antonio Kellogg, Ayinde Ubaka, and there’s wayyyy more. Again, I’m not hatin on your boy because I’ve never seen him play.

Anthony Morrow's jumper is so pure, he has to cut it with baking soda.

by dindin on Jan 29, 2009 8:15 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

It's not a problem.

I’m just saying he’s probably going into the NBA. I never said he’d be a lottery pick, I just said we should draft him. By the way, even though I’d like for that to happen, I’m not starting a movement or anything, it’s about four years early for that.

Nelly has wet dreams about starting Monta at center.

by StSaints408 on Jan 29, 2009 8:19 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

You can't say that

He’s probably going to the NBA. No. Its okay to say He’s probably going to D1 college, but the NBA is a big step up from D1. And Most 6’8" D1 players don’t make the NBA

I guess you don’t really know what has to fall into place to make it into the NBA.

It’s not all about skill, but about luck as well

I’m just saying it because he’s my friend. Wouldn’t you like to say that your friend might make the NBA? Geez, I’m sorry if that offended you but you don’t have to state 101 reasons why my friend sucks and won’t make the NBA,

Nelly has wet dreams about starting Monta at center.

by StSaints408 on Jan 29, 2009 10:48 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

One of my closest friends was 6’6" with crazy hops at age 14, playing varsity ball, and getting recruitment letters and scouts showing up to all our high school games to check him out. He went on to be 6’7" and bounced around playing junior college, DII, and low level DI ball. No NBA. Dont get offended, he’s just saying that a 14 year old, even a highly touted 14 year old, is a looooooooong way away from the NBA and most people under the age of 20 dont realize that . Especially if they are, or are close to, a highly touted player who has everyone around them telling them how awesome they are, how they are a cant miss prospect, and how bright their future is. Good luck to your friend but his chances of ever playing in the NBA are still roughly 1/100,000.

I’m just saying it because he’s my friend.

You should have made that clearer, then. Nobody likes a BS-er.

Wouldn’t you like to say that your friend might make the NBA?

I might like to say it, but I wouldn’t post it on an internet hoops board unless it were true. And there’s a big difference between saying “might” and “probably will.” Your friend is not “probably” going into the NBA. Get over it.

Geez, I’m sorry if that offended you but you don’t have to state 101 reasons why my friend sucks and won’t make the NBA.

He didn’t. He just suggested you be realistic — never a bad thing.

by FishStix on Jan 29, 2009 10:37 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

What do you expect?

Did you notice our team is full of players who have never been known for defense? Are these people suppposed to suddenly know or care how to play defense? First move that needs to be made is to deal crawford, watson, and either Wright or Randolph for a big, solid PF to give us tough D, inside presence, and rebounding. Next we draft a solid pass first PG who plays D. If Nelson still can’t make it happen with a more balanced lineup, then dump him. But at this point, it really won’t help to just fire Nelson, especially with no clear replacement.

by Pearlsofwisdom on Jan 29, 2009 11:08 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

What “big” might JC/CJ + Randolph net us?

by hardcore on Jan 31, 2009 2:13 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

or we draft a PF and trade for a pass first PG.

but yes, i agree 100%. we need a facilitator on offense. all this “who can play 1 on 1 the best tonight” business has got to stop.

by HoLdEmUP on Jan 30, 2009 3:13 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

ummm...

you’d give a lineup of Monta/Crawford/Jackson/Randolph/Biedrins a 60 DEFENSIVELY?!!!!!!! You are nuts. Our D sucks no matter what lineup we have in. Part of that is the uptempo style Nellie tries to run, but its also because we have terrible, awful defensive players. These are also guys that were terrible defensive players under every coach theyve played for. Monta gambles too much, Crawford doesnt try hard enough and avoids contact, Maggette doesnt work at it, Jackson is overrated defensively, Turiaf ignores every aspect of defense other than shotblocking, Biedrins is a bit light and still needs work on his defensive footwork……..

he should retire ASAP… he doesn’t even remember names of his players.. he sometimes mistaken MORROW for JACKSON.. when MORROW is heating it up on the threes and JACKSON is having a lot of turn-overs, he will take out MORROW instead of JACKSON … why? because he thought JACKSON is MORROW (maybe because of the headband they both wear) a simple case of ALZHEIMERS DISEASE…. we thank you NELLY for the 2007 playoff.. but please RESIGN IMMEDIATELY …. The problem with that is, is that if Turiaf and Biedrins both start, there is no one to back them up that has size, especially with Wright injured. That just leaves Kurz and Randolph.
