Around SBN: Tiger Woods, Tony Romo Grouped Together At Pebble Beach

His days of playing 40 minutes a game are over. For his body, his hamstring, less minutes are important for him. We've got to get him consistently playing, so if he feels good tomorrow, we'll see how that goes.
He had one of his best years when he was a sixth man. He'll do whatever we need him to do, so it's no problem with him personally.

Golden State Warriors head coach Don Nelson on the team's big $50 million splash this past offseason. Don't blame Corey Maggette- he's saying all the right things and has tried to play through some injuries. It's not his fault the Warriors' front office didn't do their homework and didn't recognize that they were getting a good one-dimensional, injury prone swingman- nothing more, nothing less. You don't break the bank for that kind of player, especially instead of keeping a top PG in Baron Davis. This signing also partially set off a domino money effect causing the completely unnecessary Stephen Jackson extension. [SFGate]

It's not fair to critique this signing yet.

And it probably won’t be until next year. If we were winning, people would be saying it was a genius sign. However, there’s no way we can tell what kind of team we’ll be until the slate is wiped clean and everyone is back healthy, for the most part anyway. And we can sure thank Mr. Moped for that.

The team completely healthy wins about 32-34 games a year,

and yes that includes Moped.

The signing was horrible(but it was Mullin/Rowell/Nelson’s fault not Maggette) Either you build around young talent and make a plan for the future OR you get a guy that can help you take the team to the next level. The Warriors had the talent(since Baron was gone) to clearly do the first option but decided to act on the second option. Add that to the fact that Maggette plays the same position as our current best player(Jack) and our best prospect(AR) and the move goes down as horrible. The Jackson premature extension qualifies combined with Maggete signing can only be interpreted as lunacy.

What is the status of our petitions to fire Robert Rowell and have Chris Cohan commit Hari Kiri, or at least sell the team?

Life is not fair, if it was we’d still have JRich and Boom.

disagree

the signing was lame front the onset. now its a scramble to see if we can somehow shoehorn his style of play onto the team.

"They can trade me," Bonds said. "I don't think they will, though. It's not like I want to be traded, man. I'm a Giant. I'm stuck here till the end."

Lame from the onset

agreed. I had the same reaction to signing him as I did to signing Fisher. WTF? You’re going to pay how much for what!? It’s not that I don’t like Maggette, OK, I don’t love him. But it’s that he is a 6th man. A good one at that. Still, do you pay a guy $9mm+ on average over 5 years to be your 6th man. Unless maybe he’s the last missing piece of a contender.

As has been stated hundreds of times, we turned down an extention for Davis that was shorter, and he was the key player on the team. We reacted by making this signing, which was odd considering we already had Jackson, Ellis, Buike and Bellinelli and could have re-signed Barnes and Pietrus (thank goodness we didn’t).

Signing a point to take over for BD, a starting 4 who could rebound, post up and defend, even a quality passing backup 1 or quality backup 5 would have been understandable. But Maggette was redundant from the start, has never been good as a starter, and took up our remaining cap flexibility.

Camby could have been had for a Warrior Girl. Hinrich is the type of point that would be a nice fit along Monta. And everybody is dying to drop salary. So this was very ill conceived from the start.

Marcus Camby

Could have been the role model Randolph needed, he can backup biedrins, and he can still play the 4, and he can REBOUND. I can’t believe we didn’t try to pursue him more aggressively. Probably some bad blood in the front offices that stopped that one.

dude, keep maggette, trade jamal, or the other way,

we need one of them, the one that can stand playing 25-30 off the bench, i preffer maggs because jamal just jacks up 3s, so ifs hes not doing so good on 3s one night hes gonna suck. i mean hes like 5th in the leage in 3s.

we have to trade one of the two, i rather trade jamal, hell be easier too, with his 2 year contract, the 2nd being a player option

what interests me is.....

is who actually pulled the trigger on Maggette. Was it Nelson or Mullin? We all agree it was a knee jerk (and with 20-20 hindsight) and bad decision; but Maggette is Nellie’s type of player—all offense and no defense. He’s exactly who we thought we were getting but the only problem is the glut of players with the same skill set, more or less. For my money, I’d love to move Maggette for a large expiring contract and not have to sign another volume scorer or guy requiring minutes.

The idea of Maggette being a sixth man is great except Bukie is a more rounded player who does better coming off the bench. We already have a good sixth man.

And, as some of you already posted, we had two big unmet needs from last year (not counting the coaching deficit that now clearly haunts us): a good PG and PF. We have neither and you just wonder how blind and dumb the org management is to have not addressed our biggest needs.

CWebb is undoubtedly the answer but I forgot the question.

i think mullin did, and yea knee jerk

and bukies a better D, but not as gifted on offense, maggettes the better offensive player.
