OPEN THREAD: Warriors @ Jazz

Golden State Warriors at Utah Jazz, Jan 5, 2009 6:00 PM PST

Sp-yearend25_dav_0496946112_medium

Ahh..memories.

Warriors (W-L) - 10-25
Jazz (W-L) - 19-15
Tip-Off: 6:00PM PST
TV: CSN
RADIO: KNBR 1050

Man, that picture makes me sad.

So here's the bad news - the Jazz have won 8 straight at home against the Warriors, 3 of which were in our playoff run two years ago.

Here's the good news - (insert whatever you think that might be in the comments)

Maybe Maggs will be back.  Maybe Wright will play.  Maybe we won't get destroyed.

Sounds like too many maybes for me.

R Dizzle's Predictions

  • Warriors by 1.
  • Anthony Randolph posterizes AK.
  • Paul Milsap comes out with a double-double.
  • Rob Kurz pulls down 15 boards (I can dream can't I?)

Hit up the Jump for a classic vid!

i don't think i'll EVER get tired of watching that clip

just brings back so many good memories (even tho we lost that series)

by Run Dubz on Jan 5, 2009 3:02 PM PST up reply actions

Everybody thinks we got killed in that series

If we would of made our free throws, we woulda been up 3-1. We lost two games just because of free throw shooting.

But yeah, good times.

Here's the good news -

yay

you are like how i am. think that way so if we win it feels 1000000000000000X better. come on the celtics game got me so hyped. speaking of which what the hell happened to them they loosing to the knicks now.

So I don't have a signature well these words would do! Who knew that upgrades can have downgrades too!

by 24k state fan since 87 on Jan 5, 2009 1:48 PM PST up reply actions

Yeah, I saw that

and felt that it cheapened our victory over the Celtics. It also worried me because despite KG being more of a punk nowadays, the Celtics are still our last line of defense against the Lakers winning it all.

by IQofaWarrior on Jan 5, 2009 4:08 PM PST up reply actions

That's exactly how I think too.

I hate hate HATE the Lakers, and I say the Celtics are the only team we can rely on to take them out.

by Golden Boy on Jan 5, 2009 6:04 PM PST up reply actions

the Celtics are the only team we can rely on to take them out.?

That makes no sense at all? The Lakers are west coast, the Warriors are west coast. The Celtics are east coast . That’s like picking Biggie over Tupac. Where’s your Cali pride?

Celtics suck against fastbreak teams

People need to stop thinking of them as some unstoppable godly team and just run on them. Look what the Suns, Nuggets and Warriors did to them last season when they had a 15-0 record against Western Conference teams. Also a damn 37 win team took that godly Celtics team to 7 games just from the fact that they ran against them. 2007 Warriors would have owned the 2008 Celtics just like they did to the 2007 Mavericks. NBA teams just have to put it in their heads that the Celtics aren’t unstoppable, if an athletic teams comes into a game with swagger and believe they can win, then they have a good chance.

by Five Ten Entertainment on Jan 5, 2009 4:38 PM PST up reply actions

don't get me wrong, though.

That post made it seem as if i’m saying that it’s easy to beat the Celtics. A team has to already have a great fast paced offense, but they have to play good defense as well.

The Lakers could easily beat the Celtics if they ran more often like the Warriors did in 07. Imagine trying to stop Odom, Kobe and Gasol on a fastbreak where they’re all going crazy and have a free offense. The only way it can mess up is if Fisher tries doing too much. And when things slow down, they have Pau Gasol to score in the post. That’s where the Warriors were held back, they killed teams on fastbreaks, but once the game slowed down they didn’t have anyone to score in the post; that’s why I feel that all GS needed to be a contender was the right big man. The team probably wouldn’t look great on paper but their style of play makes for improbable sh*t to happen all the time.

But with the Lakers, Bynum with the rebound and then throws an outlet pass to Kobe for the easy fastbreak point.

This is a random post, but whatever.

by Five Ten Entertainment on Jan 5, 2009 4:53 PM PST up reply actions

It's weird how 2 years can have so many changes.

I remember a Knicks fan talking like that back in 2007. He said something like, “It’s okay, I don’t mind that loss. Being a Knicks fan, i’ve become immune to losses”.

Something like that, i’m not sure if “immune” was the word he said. He basically just meant to say that losses don’t affect him anymore since the Knicks would always suck so bad anyways. When I read that, I was thinking to myself. “haha damn, I remember when I used to feel that way as a Warriors fan. Good thing that the Warriors finally put together a great team and are heading in the right direction to make the team even better. I can’t wait this offseason, i’m excited to see what moves Mullin will make to improve the team so we can work our way towards our goal of making the WCF”.

Now look where we are. All the money spent on Monta, Biedrins, Jackson and Maggette. What a damn shame. We were already competitive as hell in 2007 with a high octane offense, we just needed the right big man to go along with it.

“No expectations, No disappointments”.

That should be our slogan for the rest of the season.

And to think, this sorry Golden State Warriors franchise had a team that was the sweethearts of the NBA in 2007. Almost EVERYONE in the WORLD was rooting for US. US as in the Golden State Warriors. What a breath of fresh air, after all that struggling to make the playoffs. I seriously thought that this team with build on that playoff team and get even better, but instead they decided to use all of their money on some teenagers along with Stephen Jackson and Corey Maggette. What a damn waste.

It's all a ploy to help the Jam win the championship

If we cant win it, our D-League team will.
Currently the Jam are 1 game behind Idaho for first place. So in an effort to over take Idaho for first place. The Warriors signed one of Idaho’s best players away.

Not saying there isn’t some home courting going on, because there always is, but I’m surprised at those numbers.

Overall

Really good to see Maggette back and making key plays, but the prospect of facing the Fakers w/o Jackson is not nice. Still, I think we could have pulled this one out if Nellie had put in some real players instead of Kurz. Say what Nellie ridas?

BEIDRINS

I didn’t see most of the game, but I saw that the HD Defining Moment was a 3-point play by Brewer. And guess who laid down a weak-ass foul on him? You got it…Biedrins! At least he’s keeping his streak of giving up 3-point plays alive! I wonder if anyone’s got that statline! It’s gotta be an NBA record!

how did they not keep a safety back. You don’t blitz everybody on a play where you CANNOT afford to give up a touchdown. No wonder they always lose the big games.

"How did he do it? QUICKNESS"

Oh Jim Barnett and his blind optimism. This was a close game…a few careful fastbreaks (Dammit CJ!) and better plays (Careless Crawford & Mags) could’ve won it. Sure, i’m thankful Mags is back, but somehow the passing (once again) disappeared.

AND MORROW…..Why not “feed the hot hand?” SERIOUSLY. Make plays for the kid.

Rowell travelled with the team?

Steinmetz posted: "For whatever it is worth, anything and everything that happened on this Warriors’ road trip happened with team president Robert Rowell right in the vicinity.

Rowell accompanied the Warriors on this road trip, which first began with an afternoon flight last Tuesday out of Oakland. He was with the Warriors when they got to Oklahoma City, was with them in Minneapolis and was with them at the bitter end in Salt Lake City."

hes sick with the flu

When Maggette missed those consecutive shots in a span of a humming bird’s flap,
Crawford simply looked at the bench and said, "Are you serious?"

by gorillas on Jan 5, 2009 10:10 PM PST up reply actions

ok so, after watching the game....i have solidified my HATE for CJ

wow, does this kid suck at the point or what?

-you see him try and try to break down the opponents defense, has trouble…wastes like 10 sec, then gets it to crawford to try to do the job for him

-OMG he is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad on D….every time he is in, it DESTROYS our defense. he gets passed EASILY by EVERY player, which forces our ‘bigs’ off their guys to help, and BAM, pass and a bucket…IF U WATCH, ITS CJS FAULT!

-WOWOWOWOWOW, HE IS SOOO bad on the fast break, its like he has NO IDEA WTF TO DO!?!?!!? this is the wrong team to not know how to fast break….even BEANS, our CENTER is like 100x better at distributing for the fast break

ugh…get rid of CJ his +/- is probably TERRIBLE…

pleasseeeeee bring baron back at all costs! maggs + williams + cj, PLEASSEEEE

-Deeps

by DeepS on Jan 5, 2009 10:25 PM PST reply actions

i should say…he sucks PERIOD, not just at the point…all he can do is shoot open 3s from the right side, and some jumpers from the right side…he cant even drive and lay in well…ugh

we dont need a SG, we got craw and ellis and morrow and belli, who are ALL better at the SG position, and probabky ALL better at the PG position (well except morrow..and i dont like belli at the point much either, but hes startin to grow on me…a little…rather see him at SG)

by DeepS on Jan 5, 2009 10:28 PM PST up reply actions

MARCUS WILLIAMS MOVEMENT!

Although I’m gonna get slaughtered about how he sucks on D and gets beat, but, I’d rather have him getting beat on D if he can turn right back around and lead a successful fastbreak. Don’t gimme that kaka about how he’s hella slow. He’s the ONLY true PG on this team and knows how to pass the ball. If he could keep up down the floor w/Rudy Gay, I know he can keep up with the Dubz. Now all we need to do is go get him some tweezers so he can pluck his splinters out from ridin all that pine. (7 games out of 35. Really Nellie? He’s THAT bad?)
