The rule adjusted for the two steps. Not Maggette’s six stepping James Brown Shuffle.

2 step rule of thumb
2 step rule of thumb has been what everyone (who didn’t read the rule book) has always said, regardless of whether it is a pickup game or somewhere else. The trouble is, it used to be that the 2nd step was the travel, so people could say, “That’s 2 steps!” meaning “he traveled.” Unfortunately, somewhere long before I can remember the popular definition (not the one the refs call in the officiated games I’ve played – which always confused me) became “That’s 2 steps!” so “he didn’t travel.”
Just thinking about what I can do on the court with 2 steps as opposed to 1, this is a significant change to the game, even if it is one we’ve been experiencing for generations.

Yeah, it’s a case of dumbing down the game for the fans in the seats. The old rule had plenty of leeway so now they’ll stretch it even further.

So does this mean Dan Majerle would now be permitted to perform the “Thunder Shuffle”…?
