I would go for Zydrunas because
He is an expiring contract and were going to need money to resign our future star Anthony . We’ll need big Z with Wright out and he can be very good for Andris as a mentor.

Varejao!!!
is overpaid BUT has great qualities:
1) He’s a pesky in-your-face Defender
2) Always finds himself near the ball. Terrific offensive Rebounder.
3) His motor and Hustle plays remind me of Turiaf and you know how great of a player he turned out to be for the Warriors.
4) I honestly see Varejao adding to the team chemistry during our buiding process.
PG Ellis – Curry
SG Morrow – Azubuike
SF Randolph – Maggette
PF Turiaf – Wright
C Biedrins – Varejao
Me likey!!!!

AR is not a 3 right now
I’d say varejao/ar would be the 4 and buike/mags the 3.

i like him
Varejao seems like the best we could do from the Cavs. He would give us some more beef where we really need it. A problem is he’s a 4 that he doesn’t shoot… Still, I could see him giving AR some relief against meatier PFs for a few years until AR puts on some weight.

This has potential
Moon, Hickson, Ilgauskas – I think that any of these pieces would be an asset to the W’s, in one way or another. I don’t particulary want West right now, and I can’t stand varejao (though i couldnt stand turiaf when he was on the lakers). lets get jack out and get some pieces that fit with us!

Daniel Gibson, perhaps?
I know the last thing we need are MORE undersized twos, but hes got 4 years left at about 4 mil per. That’s not exactly a beautiful contract, but neither is Jack’s, perhaps us taking him would sweeten the deal for the Cavs since I would think they’d want to get rid of him and his horrid contract, as we would want to get rid of Jackson’s horrid contract.

Many of the guys who could be involved in a deal with Cleveland (Powe, Varejao, Moore) can’t be dealt until mid December. But I think a Turiaf, Jackson, and Moore for West, Powe and Varejao would be good for both sides.

don’t want West and don’t want to give up Turiaf
I’d love Jackson for Varejao AND Powe but I’d think we’d be lucky to get Varejao for Jack straight up.

I hate to say it, but
But I’d rather have Verejao, they’re about the same across the board, but Verejao’s rebounding average is twice as high as Turiaf’s career average, while Turiaf’s blocks are twice as high as Verejaos,, andI’d MUCH rather have a high rate rebounder than a high rate shot blocker.

Agreed that rebounding is more important in a big man than shotblocking. (By “agreed” I of course mean "jae says that it’s so and I trust him implicitly). But in ignoring minutes played you’re overstating Varejão’s advantage in this area:
Varejão, career per 36 minutes
10.3 pts (.534 TS%)
10.1 reb (16.4 total reb%)
1.3 ast
1.0 blk
Turiaf, career per 36 minutes
11.6 pts (.557 TS%)
7.9 reb (12.2 total reb%)
3.0 ast
3.0 blk
Obviously, Andy’s advantage as a rebounder is significant, but I’d guess it’s more or less offset by Ronny’s superior shooting, scoring, passing, shotblocking, and overall court presence, leadership, and positive energy. Straight up, much as I love rebounding, I’d rather have Turiaf. Still, as part of the larger deal Sam proposed, I think I could live with the drop-off. If West gets his head together and Powe gets his body together, it could be an absolutely steal for us. Most importantly, we could rid ourselves of the Jackson headache (and contract) and move forward.
There will be no extra point!

i think this would be the primary reason I’d be down to do this trade, no matter what we get in return, as long as we get rid of Jackson’s ugly contract, I’m down with it. I’m just saying, of all the trades, I wouldn’t mind taking Verejao back even if it means having to give up Turiaf, who I’m a HUGE fan of, and I agree that his off court presence is as important as the stats he puts up and is a great player that i love on the dubs.

Problem is getting rid of jax is not gonna cure the problems that had him so upset, we’ll still have them but without jax in his dual roles of mine canary and whipping boy no one will notice or enjoy dealing with them.

Moving Jackson is a short term solution to a long term problem; we’d be even further away from reaching the playoffs, let alone a championship! Boy, I sure hope we win it all at least once in my lifetime…

mine canary and whipping boy
Whipping boy: sure, I guess.
Mine canary: not so much. The quality of the air in the coal mine in which he signed a lucrative contract to work is no less salubrious than it was the day he signed his contract. Indeed, it’s probably better now, as when he signed no one could have predicted that the two Anthonys would blow up the way they did, or that a little Curry would be added to the mix.
It kind of amazes me that anyone could interpret this canary’s squawking as anything but whiny, self-serving noise.
I’m guessing most Ws fans don’t need a crazy bird to remind them of the problems with this team: (1) inept ownership/management; (2) erratic coaching; (3) lack of a true franchise player; (4) Two overpaid, inconsistent jokers named Jackson and Maggette in the guise of veteran leaders. Yeah, cutting Jackson loose does nothing to solve #1-3, but it does at least half-address #4; and hey — fingers crossed — it could be a small first step in a peaceful transition from the Era of We Suck to the Era of Larry Ellison, Larry Riley, Keith Smart, and the Two Anthonys.
There will be no extra point!

well yea, obviously nobody WANTS to give up Turiaf and I’m not sure anyone really WANTS West. The point is that I’d rather have West’s short term commitment than Jackson’s contract, I’d rather have Varejao than Turiaf and I’d rather have Powe than Moore. Honestly, I think we win all 3 parts of that swap, but Cleveland gets little bit bigger and slightly more mentally healthy in the backcourt. Varejao is a little more expensive than Turiaf, but he’s better than Turiaf too and locking up a solid backup big man who rebounds and defends well for 5 more years is probably a good thing even if he is slightly overpaid. West’s contract expires in 2011 and at this point I’m starting to think we’ll be lucky to get rid of Jackson for a much lesser player with a slightly shorter contract. If he’s healthy West is likely a better player than Jackson. Of course he comes with even more concerns than Jackson and he’s undersized so there is some downside there, but I wouldnt be terribly upset if we made the deal and West never got healthy enough to play, it just means more minutes for Monta, Curry, Morrow and Watson. Adding Powe for Mikki Moore would be a pretty great bonus. Since we’re essentially replacing Turiaf with a guy who is only a little bit better and dumping Jackson for a guy who may not play at all ths year and adding another PF who wont be ready to play until midseason at the earliest we’d likely get a little bit worse this year, but who cares? Next year we’d have West’s expiring contract to shop around and Ellis, Curry, Morrow, Maggette, Buike, Randolph, Wright, Powe, Varejao, and Biedrins all coming back along with a lottery pick and most of those younger guys should have logged plenty of playing time.

I understand. And I agree Vareajo is a better 4 than Turiaf. I think, though, that Turiaf is a better center. He is the only guy we have that has any hope of pushing back at the Howards and Bynums of the league. I’d take you trade over keeping a disgruntled Jack. But it leaves us a little weaker in the center, IMO. If we can do Jack for Varejao straight up, I’d be happier.

Teams usually NEVER trade big for small, and I think that the only way this trade goes through is if there are more players involved and not a straight up one for one trade

You might be right. Two reasons the Cavs just MAY consider a straight-up trade is that they need Jack more than they need Varejao to win now. They have Hickson and Powe at the 4 and plenty of beef at center. They need a wing like Jack. Also, Varejao has six years left on his outsized contract. Who knows if he’s still walking by the end of it.

varegao and turiaf as PF and C = the most offensively inefficient front court ever!!
by HireMeAsGM on Oct 20, 2009 10:29 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yes, which is why I wouldn’t want it to be a straight up trade and involve more players. Also, I don’t think we really need turiaf and verejao to be offensive players, as long as they clean the glass and start the break, we have alot of scorers to take care of the rest. And although Verejao seems like an annoying player on an opposing team, I’d love his defense playing for US instead and getting those (euro flop) charge calls and forcing the turnover for us instead of the opposing team.

I like our team, if we get rid of Jack
For some reason, beyond common logic, I really like our team if we are able to get rid of Jackson. It would free up a lot of playing time for Buike, Morrow, and Maggette. Maggette can stop playing the 4 since he’s overmatched size wise when he does. I would take Jackson for any front court help since we lost Wright and Biedrins has foul-issues. I would take Varejao, Big Z, or Powe for Jackson. Getting West of Gibson would just be extra players thrown in for salary purposes…
by HireMeAsGM on Oct 20, 2009 8:27 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I want to get rid of of the unhappy Jack as much as the next
But seriously what can we really get from Clevland right now. I like big Z for the cap relief…. but that is about it. Also we cannot trade for Varejao, Powe, Moon, or Parker until the dec 15 deadline passes for newly signed players. Also draft picks wont help us all that much as it will only be a last first rounder. So there is not a whole lot we can get at this moment. I guess the cap relief would be worth it though
