Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

It also goes on to say how he is excelling in all practices. Can you say big year from my boy Brandan Wright

important pieces to the article

Wright grew an inch to 6-foot-10, added muscle to be listed at 210 pounds and has become more assertive on the court.

Was he not listed at 6’10 last year? Was he not listed at 210lbs last year? I think he meant to say 6’11 and 225 since Brandan himself said he gained 15 pounds

“I kind of like to be M.I.A. Then I can come out and shock everyone and prove that I can play some ball,” Wright said. “There’s some fuel there, but I didn’t need that because I’ve got enough reasons to drive myself personally.”

That qoute shows me that Brandan is determined to show people that he is just as good as Anthony Randolph.Maybe he used all the hype to Anthony to motivate himself this offseason. Nevertheless I am expecting big things from my fav player B Wright

In a 60-minute scrimmage Wednesday, Wright had nearly a dozen offensive rebounds and blocked a couple of shots. Though Nelson said Randolph is still the starting power forward, he said Wright has outplayed the incumbent to this point.

This is the third article I have read stating that B Wright is outplaying Randolph. Although it may be Nellie’s mind games, I have no doubt in my mind that Nellie is speaking the truth

LOL

funny thing last year he said Randolph outplayed BWright… this year he said BWright outplayed Randolph.

Friendly, but challenging competition could be good for both of them. It always made me better in every sport I played.

Totally

Not to mention Randolph could play the three. Theres no reason the two couldnt play consistent minutes at the same time. This would be great, especially if it helps put us in a position to now deal jackson and or maggette.

meh

I’m still not sold on Randolph at the 3, I’d much rather have him patrolling the paint.

I suspected this when reading the article. Thank you for driving it home.

Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

good

glad to hear that his option is getting picked up. he’s definitely worth it.

Brandan Wright is a good man.

An empty barrel makes the most noise.

Great Value

There really was no reason not to pick it up. This is very exciting. It means that they have already seen what they wanted out of Bwright in training camp. I expected them to wait until at least preseason was over. Now lets just hope he can stay healthy.

I'm glad

his hard work is paying off. It seems our youth is rounding into form. There is still a conflict with playing time however. So if he’s outplaying Randolph, does that mean he will be considered to start? Or if not, will he be backing up Randolph? Does Mikki Moore see any time? It seems Turiaf would play only backup center. Could we possibly see a lineup of Wright, Randolph and Biedrins in the frontcourt? It’s gonna be interesting to see how the playing time gets dished out. I think Randolph will still start, and Wright will be his primary backup.

Minutes for Wright

Even before the promising returns from AR and BW his offseason — in terms of both their games and their frames — it had been postulated by a few experts that giving Wright and Randolph more minutes, at the expense of smallball, would likely result in more wins for the team.

if Ellis returns to his 2007-08 form, and Nelson learns to respect NBA tradition [i.e. eschews smallball], this team can improve 20 games in the standings (assuming player’s performance doesn’t change, no injuries, etc…).

And that would mean there is one more contending team in the Western Conference. This list already includes Portland, the LA Lakers, San Antonio, Dallas, Denver, New Orleans, Utah, and maybe Phoenix. If we throw in the Warriors, at least one team that is thinking playoffs in 2010 is going to be disappointed.

Of course, all of this depends upon Nelson’s willingness to keep his big man rotation confined to Randolph, Wright, Biedrins, and Turiaf. Hollinger’s assessment of this team depends on Nelson expanding this rotation and staying true to what he has done in the past. If Nelson follows Hollinger’s expectation, and keeps on looking for little guys to come up big, the Warriors can look forward to another trip to the NBA lottery (and perhaps another power forward Nelson won’t play).

Problem remains how to get both Randolph and Wright the PT they (and the team, and the fans) deserve. Here’s how I might go about resolving the problem:

1. Give precisely ZERO minutes at PF to anyone but Randolph and Wright (and maybe the very occasional Turiaf). No Maggs, no Mikki Moore, no Kelenna, no CJ Watson, no Troy Hudson, no Nellie, no baumerworld, no mydedgerbil, etc.

2. Give 6 minutes a game at SF to Randolph. Enough time to create a few mismatches and let him hone his ballhandling, passing and shooting skills, but not so much that he’ll start to fall in love with the perimeter and abandon the beastly inside game that is clearly his ticket to NBA stardom. (If his surest ticket to NBA stardom to try to emulate the game of Kevin Garnett, his surest ticket to NBA mediocrity is to try to emulate the game of Kevin Durant).

3. A rather unconventional solution: Randolph at Center for 6 minutes or so a game. If he’s really 7’0" he should be able to handle it; and his speed and athleticism could create as many mismatches for us as his skinniness gives the opposition. Meantime, he can work on developing the aforementioned Duncan/Garnett skills (i.e. rebounding and interior D) that could really make him a franchise player.

Sample minutes allotment:

C Biedrins 28 / Turiaf 14 / Randolph 6
PF Randolph 22 / Wright 26
SF Jackson 20 / Maggette 14 / Azubuike 8 / Randolph 6
SG Morrow 20 / Jackson 10 / Curry 10 / Azubuike 8
PG Monta 36 / Curry 12

There will be no extra point!

good breakdown on the minutes

Hope nellie does something similar to that, but I’m not sure if we’ll be keeping maggette at only 14 mpg. He’s more likely to get closer to 20 mpg someway somehow. It would be more likely (but not favorably) that Wright would get closer 20 mpg and Maggette playing the remaining 6 mpg at PF on top of 14 mpg at SF to be at a total of 20 mpg as well.

by hellafornia on Oct 3, 2009 10:43 AM PDT up reply actions

All depends on matchups.

I absolutely HATE Maggette’s game, but last year when we played the Blazers he was guarding Aldridge and owned him. I’d be very surprised if we don’t see Maggette or Azubuike or even Jackson at the 4 with Randolph or Wright at the 5. We are bound to have injuries so we’ll have plenty of different, mismatch lineups.

by Captain Jack on Oct 3, 2009 12:09 PM PDT up reply actions

give those 26 minutes to Mikki Moore. B Wright got injured again.

Crazy.

I blame this diary. ;-P

Seriously, that sucks. And if I’m this bummed, I can only imagine what brandanwright#1 is going through. 6 fvcking months???

The principle of the WoW argument stands. We should give the minutes to Biedrins and Turiaf, not go small. Maggette picks up the leftover minutes at SF.

Biedrins 32 / Turiaf 16
Randolph 36 / Turiaf 6 / Maggette 6
Jackson 20 / Maggette 18 / Azubuike 10
etc.

There will be no extra point!

at least we know if the Lakers are going Bynum, Gasol Odom we can count a bit with our 3 skinny bigs. If we in fact have found a rebounding PF on the team we might surprise a few people.
