Warriors Arena in Downtown San Francisco?
Yahoo! Sports says a San Francisco Bay Area group has approached Chris Cohan about buying the Warriors and building an arena for them in "downtown San Francisco." Curbed SF commenters speculate on where a Warriors arena would go in the city.

No!
Terrible idea. Anyone else think that someone buying this team and moving it to SF is just looking for money and not a championship? They look at us now and say, "Oakland? That’s to small of a market, we need a big market. Just like the Lakers! " Plus the crowds and parking would be awful and I think that east bay fans are louder and really make the Oracle arena go crazy. We believe would not have the same intensity if it were in SF.

So...
You would rather have Cohan as owner just because you think Oakland has “better fans” than SF?

If it came down to keeping cohan or having the team move to ‘frisco I’d go with cohan, he might change but there’s now way the city is gonna get less pretentious.
Let’s just get back that 1975 spirit when all the Oakland teams were top of their leagues.

This makes no sense. So, having the team in SF means the owners are looking for money, while keeping the team in Oakland means they’re looking for a championship? In what world is Oakland a city that breeds championships — and what the hell does the city have to do with that anyway? Would it be unkind of me to point out that A’s and Raiders’ games are consistently undersold, even at times when the teams have been doing well? Of course it would be a move primarily motivated by money, but it couldn’t possibly hurt the caliber of the team. Hell, the new ownership would be more likely to spend more money on better personnel to get those new SF fans in some seats.

It's signs of someone looking for money
An owner that would just care about winning and actually cares about bay are sports (Ellison cough cough) and someone who would want to win would not really care about where we were in the bay area if we are the Golden State Warriors. And no, I hate Cohan he needs to leave but selling to someone like him would not be a smart move either. Sources said that this was a group that proposed a purchase for the team. So who would be the owner? A board of people? And if you remember when the Raiders were going to the super bowl they always sold out and had great sales numbers. Oracle arena is the perfect example, it’s in Oakland and sells out a lot even if we are bad. We show up constantly there good or bad, Cohan or no Cohan. Changing cities does not help us as a team get better. Now if we went there with a playoff team I would be fine with it but were not. Changing cities should be the last thing on our mind right now.

This pretty much contradicted your own argument against moving the Warriors to SF. What does it matter where they are located in the Bay if they still play entertaining (and sometimes winning) basketball?

Well then why would it be necessary to move there?
It’s like if the Cal bears called themselves they Berekely bears. Does it really matter? It’s like trading Troy Murphy for Dunleavy, does it really matter who you get out of the 2? No offense to SF fans but we should stay here.

It’s not a matter of whether going to SF is a necessary move; it’s a matter of why it’s absolutely necessary in your opinion that they stay in Oakland. Why are you are hell bent on keeping them in Oakland? Will moving to SF suddenly make them a 0-82 team or something?
Where they play in the Bay doesn’t change anything besides the location of the home court; I wouldn’t care whether the Warriors played in SF or Oakland or even San Jose as long as they’re reppin’ the Bay. They will still be the Golden State Warriors and my favorite team.

"I think that east bay fans are louder and really make the Oracle arena go crazy."
how do you even know who’s from SF and who’s from the east bay? i’m sure SF fans are just as crazy about the dubs as east bay fans, let alone fans in the bay area in general.
the warriors represent the BAY AREA. there’s no reason to play favorites. we’re all a part of the diverse bay area!

Bay Area
While the 49ers, Raiders, Giants, Athletics and Warriors are from the Bay Area, they’re not all equal. Everyone knows the media favors the San Francisco franchises.

Agreed.
Although the Giants had a far better season than the A’s. and the Niners are looking a lot better than the Raiders, it’d be nice if the Oakland teams got some attention. I’m tired of seeing/hearing about the SF teams 24/7

And that's why this "organization" wants to move us!
Money and attention, not basketball. And to jchoa204, to answert your question, when both teams were in the playoff hunt (lets say 2002) who were crazier and louder fans? The Raider fans or 49er fans? That’s how you can tell that east bay fans scream and not “cheer”.

BAD!
An arena for the Warriors in downtown SF would be bad. Parking would be a nightmare.
Tickets to Warriors games are pricey enough already, if they moved to a new arena in SF it would be even more expensive and I and others like me would never be able to go.
Keep the Warriors in Oakland!

If the SF group buys them
It would take years for an arena to get built in the city, so they would play a couple of seasons at Oracle.
btw, for those worried about parking – BART?

Muni, SamTran as well. They will almost for sure do it in China Basin area, which is walking distance from the SamTran station, and of course Muni, which will take you within 5 blocks of anywhere in the city.

Bring the W's to SF!
I wouldn’t mind a brand new state of the art stadium and an exciting team in SF. Plus it be easier for public transportation or parking for free.
SF is they way to go.

hmmm
i don’t care if the warriors build a new arena in the city, but putting it in downtown san francisco will be a headache. it’s going to be never ending traffic for daaayyyyys, especially for games over the weekend.

For sure. If they do want to move out of the Oracle they should build a new arena in a central location with good freeway access, maybe somewhere around Hayward or no further south than Fremont. San Francisco downtown has nothing going for it but the tourist factor. If we come for the games we don’t care about the scenery. The Giants new stadium is a perfect example of putting the venue before the game, they squandered the chance to exploit the greatest home field advantage in the league when they moved out of candlestick. They should have built the team around embracing those conditions and padded their home records every year.
