(Adam Lauridsen) Not Too Big, Not Too Small - His views of last night's game.

(Tim Kawakami) Warriors update: Randolph and Jackson sidelined, Watson is officially ahead of Curry (for now) - Bits and pieces from today's practice. Quick summary:

- Nellie's back
- Randolph, Jack banged up, not at practice
- Nellie thinks CJ is ahead of Curry at the moment
- Pruitt cut
- Nellie and Monta transcript to come. TK actually praised Monta for sounding mature.

Personally, I feel a recurring theme coming again with the injury bug, just like last season. I hope I'm wrong.

Update 1: TK's Nellie transcript

Update 2: TK's Monta transcript

I have to agree

I guess Nelly is trying to motivate Curry here, but Curry can run an offense, CJ less so. Unless the opposing team leaves morrow open – then all you gotta do is pass to him

meh

Nellie just doesn’t like playing rookies that much. Curry has to prove himself first, he isn’t GOD.

Can the W's

trade CJ this season?

maybe they want to showcase him as part of a JACK trade

“There’s not much more to write at this point about Anthony Morrow. His defense could still be better and he sometimes forgets to hit the boards, but he’s otherwise been the team’s best player in the preseason. His 9-15 shooting kept the Warriors in the game after their slow start and when they lost contact at a few points later in the night. He was one of three players with a positive plus/minus figure for the night — despite playing 40 minutes. The stat is a testament to how much the team suffered in those 8 minutes without him on the court.”

Hoo boy, does a Monta/CJ/Jack/Maggette/Biedrins lineup sound horrible. I’m actually glad CJ’s still on the radar somewhat, but even if you assume that taking things slow with Curry is the right call, I don’t see how you start CJ over Morrow. It’s not like CJ has a defensive edge. And Maggette at the four speaks for itself. That would be the worst-rebounding lineup in league history.

Could just be Nellie being Nellie. But this highlights how bad things look if you remove Randolph from the equation… with Wright on the shelf, Randolph’s the only thing keeping us from being the tiniest, silliest and worst team in the league. Now would be a really good time to find a D-League big man who could give us 15-20 minutes a night.

I’m not sure Nellie would use him. What is wrong with starting Turiaf?! I am SO tired of getting abused under the basket.

As Nellie implies in TK’s transcript, Turiaf fouls too much to play starter-level minutes. I’d be all for starting the guy if Randolph’s out, but we’d still be a dude short… you’re not going to get more than 55 minutes from Biedrins and Turiaf most nights, and I’d rather not see Maggette at the four much or Mikki Moore anywhere at all. I think we’ve got to grab a Courtney Sims type in the next couple days.

I don’t know Courtney Sims. Looks like he’s two years out of Michigan with a little NBA experience. Getting him sounds good if you think he has an NBA future. But I don’t see much wrong with Moore as a back-up. Randolph won’t be out long, I hope.

Why not start Bidriens and Turiaf with Monta and Jack as guards? Use Azubuike or Maggette at 3 and if our bigs pick up some quick fouls, THEN move Maggette to 4 or put in Moore. This would optimize our big line-up.

I think Nellie is just playin Mind games with people.

Btw, the roster in a PRACTICE when people are INJURED doesnt say much. I think the bloggers just didnt have much else to write about.

coaching logic?

Without undue strain, I could see how Morrow is best deployed when Curry rather than Ellis is on the court, and using the most effective pair together as a second unit. The starters would not invariably get the most minutes, in fact, we should expect Watson, barring fouls or ineffectiveness from the bench guards, to end up with the fewest minutes of the four. The best defender, whether it’s Watson, Law, or Morrow, should probably play the other guard with Ellis, and Morrow’s other shortcoming is his weakness in bringing the ball up court and distributing.

I agree. But if you didn’t start Maggette at 4 and used Turiaf instead you could have Jack starting at off guard with Monta. Bringing in Morrow and Curry +/- sliding Jack to 3 or using Maggette at 4 or even a Curry/Ellis combo later depending on fouls and match-ups is what I’d do.

Maybe we should pay attention to Corey's wrist a bit more this season.

They say its healthy, but anything can happen.

Warriors, Stupidest franchise in the league.

I told Randolph that Bill Russell would tell him to keep that ball in play and start the break.

RANDOLPH: "I know. But sometimes, you gotta let ‘em know."

What?

If curry goes 3-10 with 9 assists I will gladly take that over CJ’s bad defense and shot selection and inability to find the open shooter.

Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "Your a rookie"

I bet Curry gets 25 - 30mpg

in the first 2 weeks of the season. He might come off the bench, but once he’s in, he’ll stay in.

I remember when Mario Elie was here – Nellie used to say “When Elie’s on the Wood, The Game goes Good”

Same will be said for Curry

The starting lineup mentioned is only for the preseason game tonight.

If AR is actually out for the opener or any other regular season games, Nellie would be more likely to go with Ellis Curry/Morrow Buike Jack Biedrins. There’s no way Nellie would actually start CJ over Curry or Morrow. CJ is not a 100% yet, Morrow has been our best offensive player this preseason. We could see Maggs as a starting 4, but it’s not likely. Nelle really likes him as a 6th man. My guess is that he just wants to ensure Maggs and CJ playing time. CJ needs to play back into form, Maggs missed the last game. Plus if he is going to play a lot of PF, it’s good that he gets practice in against David West in a gamelike situation.

If AR is actually out for an extended period of time, we should really try to trade Jack plus expirings and or BWright for AK47. He could start at PF until AR is back, then he moves to the 3 or we start Maggs and AK is our 6th man, when Randolph returns. I’ve been advocating the aquisition of AK47 at the expense of Maggs or Jack since the end of last season. Jack wants a trade to a playoff team, AK would add a bunch of rebounds, steals, assists, and blocks. Sounds like the ultimate trade at this point.
