Good Read

Interesting that CJ is going to start over Curry. He probably feels that Ellis and Curry aren’t playing well enough together to start yet.

Its gotta be the injuries

Nellie already named AR the starting 4 and maggette is the sixth man so its cuz randolph is hurt. Now CJ is another story. The only legitimate reason I can think of is Morrow and Azubuike is some good firepower off the bench.

I like a Curry-Morrow backcourt coming off the bench, thats a good combo, add Buike to that mix and we’ve got a pretty potent bench rotation

When Nellie mentioned the starting lineup

He might be referring to tonight’s game only. There’s another week to go before the regular season, and AR and Jack could be OK by then.

+1

I also feel that he wants to give CJ more pt because he’s not 100% yet and wants to get him to as close to game form as possible before the season starts. If Maggs is going to play a lot of minutes at PF, there’s no better practice than to go head to head with David West in a game situation. Plus he missed last game so he could use some final tuning before the season.

Werd

Whereas CJ and Monta have been playing together for a couple of seasons now, which lends to understanding each others on-court tendencies, Monta and Curry have very little experience playing together. Moreover, Curry still has to learn the rest of his teammates and jell his game with theirs. I don’t think Nelson’s decision to start Watson over Curry has anything to do with talent, but rather has more to do with understanding what “cards” he’s playing with.

As a bit of an aside, I’m curious to see how Nelson utilizes Azubuike.

If CJ is over Curry by opening night

The Don has gone crazy…

Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"

I don’t think so. CJ was very good toward the end of last year. Curry is good so far, but his shooting is questionable so far.

Welcome to the Pit of Despair! Don't even think about trying to escape.

I could care less about that

Curry plays D and passes well. CJ can’t do either.

Some tweets from gswscribe (Marcus Thompson)

“Nelson said CJ is starting because he’s better at defending 2s.”

“Didn’t think he could do it, but it looks like Nellie is resisting the temptation to start Curry so he can play with Morrow in the 2nd unit.”

“Q: Do you like Curry and Morrow on the floor together? – Nellie: “Oooh yeaaaah. That’s a natural.”"

So that could be another reason why Nellie is starting CJ over Curry, to pair Curry and Morrow together off the bench. assuming Nellie’s referring to the regular season lineup.

If that's the case

Buike should start at the 2 or Maggs should start at the 3. This is assuming AR is playing. If he’s not. I still think Buike should start because our rebounding is weak enough with a front line of Maggette and Biedrins.

Cohn: Is that an issue?

Nelson: Size is always an issue in basketball. Not so much in horse racing.

Cohn: Just two more questions.

Nelson: Good.

Cohn: Am I boring you?

Nelson: Yes.
