Just got back from the Warriors Hornets game, my thoughts on Curry

I have been very skeptical of Steph Curry so far, he hasn't been able to put up great numbers like we all expected of him.  Everyone says that hes having a hard time adapting to the nba game, to nba range etc.  Let me just say he looked great tonight.  Besides Anthony Morrow and Cory Maggette there was no one I was more impressed with.  I think he definitelly needs to start at the point guard and Monta at the 2.  His poise is that of a seasoned vet, and his court vision is exceptional.  He made a few passes that reminded me of a young Jason Kidd.  Obviously Monta and Curry cant play together all the time, against teams with bigger 2 guards but they certainly had some nice chemistry out there.  I know its just preseason and they arent playing against full teams but there was definitelly some nice chemistry between the two of them.  Monta would hit Steph with a nice pass then Steph would do the same for Monta.  When Darren Collison was in the game for the Hornets, Steph's rookie counterpart he just looked confused.  He would rush shots, rush passes and just dribble way too much, compared to him Curry looked like an all star.  I have always been a huge doubter of small ball but i think this could definitely work out. The same thing happened when the Warriors drafted Monta, Baron said he couldn't play with him, that he was too small and everything and they turned out pretty nice.

i agree curry was a beast tonight. i sat in club 200 in the nosebleeds. f-in free tickets haha

"If you can make 10 things happen during the 10 minutes you play tonight, we will quadruple your salary and you will start for the rest of the season" ... and then he does just that, but the coach reneges on the promise so Anthony has a near-crying meltdown on the bench. That's every Anthony Randolph game.

I had the same tickets yet I snuck downstairs, it was surprisingly easy sneaking into the lower bowl tonight, but not once the actual season starts…

Dayum...

I was on BART on the way home from a conference (up at 5AM) and had half a mind to just get off and see how much tickets were. Was too tired though. Would have been a great game to see.

You dont want Morrow in the starting lineup? All he did was score 34 points on 19 (yes, nineteen!) shots. Morrow doesnt give us any attitude (Ellis/Jackson) and is always a threat on the floor. I dont see how Nelson doesnt start Morrow instead of Curry, but all 3 of them (Ellis too) getting around 30 minutes. Morrow got 48 minutes tonight, probaby because Nelson just coudnt take him out. I know the Warriors were missing 3 guys, but Mikki Moore played and he won’t play at all if everyone is healthy.

Morrow is a perfect player in this system because he shoots the light out and has to be respected everywhere on the floor.

I think Azubuike may start over Morrow, due to his superior defense and the fact he can penetrate better than Morrow. Of course, with the way Morrow played in the pre-season, it may be that we have to start him. He’s been amazing.

Welcome to the Pit of Despair! Don't even think about trying to escape.

the main reason for Azi is his superior rebounding and we need that from where we can get it. If not for that then Morrow should get heavier minutes.

I love morrow, but I still think he is better used as a weapon off the bench. Most of the leagues starting 2 guards will really hurt us with Morrow out there.

i agree that ellis and curry work… some old lady who works for the warriors was yelling at me to leave the upper level just cause i was listening to the stephen curry interview. Why do they have the interview on the loud speakers if they dont want you to hear it.

also just home from the game

Lot’s of meaningless fun. Our boys looked great against the NO scrubs. Even still, it’s hard not to get excited about Curry and Morrow. Curry simply knows how to play and Morrow was very active on D, passing, and moving inside. And Ellis looked his best this preseason as well. His shots were falling and he had his share of acrobatic drive and dishes that reminded me of his best days. Also, he worked to stay in front of his man. Of course, they weren’t guarding Paul, but Curry and Ellis may not be horrible together on D. I hope. Finally, Maggette did what he does and looked like an All Star. We could do worse in a sixth man. We’ll see what happens when West replaces Songaila in the regular season.

And, lastly, the most important news of the night; Franklin Mieuli has a new deerstalker cap. It is similar to the old one but with some rather psychedelic plaid colors. I sit behind him – a fair ways. He is one of the first things I look for when I sit down. It’s good to see him at even preseason games. He is my Warrior touchstone and I miss him the rare times he doesn’t attend.

Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.

Mieuli truly was the sod breaker and seed sower

in creating the present fan base of the team. One of his inspired decisions was featuring B.King prominently in radio and t.v. His worst blunder, the coaching change and contract haggling that alienated Barry(in the middle of his young prime) into jumping leagues, which he mended by hiring the late D.Vertlieb as g.m.

OR was it all his bricked shots that remind you of ason Kidd (that’s right ason, because Kidd got no J).

A Sonics fan without a team... but after 6 seasons now of GS Warriors season tickets have convinced me to adopt the boys from Oakland.

When will you all get over saying stuff like the NCAA scoring leader has no J?

With Curry on the floor it seems things flow more smoothly

But with both him and Monta on the field, we look foolish on defense…

so far, he hasn't been able to put up great numbers like we all expected of him.

We din’t expect him to put up great numbers this year, he’s only a minor leaguer right now. Give him a couple of seasons and we’ll know if he’s worthy of the show?

he lead the ncaa in scoring for 2 seasons as a 6’3 guard… it shouldnt matter who hes playing against the guy can shoot, and he can get himself space to shoot. its not like hes a slashing guard or a power forward whos getting d’ up in the key, hes shooting and missing jumpers that he used to make. eventually hes going to get it together tho so im not too worried the kids got poise.

That’s a minor league college conference too, w.t.h. evens knows where davidson is? . See what he does against the NBA’s bigger defenders before tying the knot?

Good post man.

I have a question for you though. You said:

“I have been very skeptical of Steph Curry so far”

Did you mean skeptical of how he would fit in with the Warriors?
or very skeptical in Curry being successful as an NBA player in general?

For me, I initially hated the pick. I thought it was a seriously stupid pick. Only because I really wanted a player like Tyreke Evans, Johnny Flynn, or BJennings alongside Monta.

I never doubted that he could be a very good player in the NBA because I knew he had game, heard he had a good understanding of the game, what it takes to be good in the NBA (because of his dad), etc.

I love what I have seen from Steph Curry so far and like you I have been very impressed. I really like his positive attitude (especially with all the unnecessary drama that has occurred even before the season started), his willingness to do what it takes to be an integral part of the team by being a facilitator and doing his best to be aggressive on defense.

It is just preseason, but so far he is proving me wrong that he CAN be a good fit for this team. I hope he continues to prove me wrong and stack up good games for the rest of the season.

Stack up good games consecutively like EPMD LP’s.

Steph Curry for ROY. Prove it.

when i said i was skeptical i first didn’t like the draft choice. i really wanted us to pick up jordan hill, or brandon jennings.. i wanted monta to play the 2 because that is his better position, and the thought of curry and monta playing together defense just made me cringe. i really wanted us to pick up a true shooting guard or a true point guard, im kinda sick of these combo gaurds. although they seem to fit perfectly in nellies schemes, i love watching us run n gun but i would really like us to be a more defensive team, but that’s never gonna happen as long as nellie is here.
