Warriors Not Getting Alot Of Play For Pre-Season Awards But........

I have noticed that the Warriors are not getting a lot of mention in regards to pre-season award picks and i guess that's not too surprising.  Unlike two seasons ago they are not the "fashionable" pick.  I here terms like " Alot of talent,  but too much controversy" or "They are too young" But simply looking at individual awards i see the Warriors being players in some avenues.  Let me look at it for a second

Rookie Of The Year

Blake Griffin                   Clippers

Stephen Curry                Warriors

Tyreke Evans                 Kings

Johnny Flynn                  T'wolves

Most Improved

Anthony Morrow            Warriors

Anthony Randolph       Warriors

Greg Oden                     Blazers

Andrew Bynum             Lakers

Rodney Stuckey           Pistons

Thaddeus Young        Sixers

6th Man

Anthony Morrow            Warriors              (If he Isn't Starting)

Kelenna Azubuike       Warriors               (If Morrow starts)

Corey Maggette           Warriors                (always has to be considered)

Rasheed Wallace      Celtics

Lamar Odem               Lakers

Manu Ginobili              Spurs

Nate Robinson           Knicks

Coach Of The Year

Stan Van Gundy          Magic

Phil Jackson               Lakers

Don Nelson               Warriors

Greg Papavich          Spurs

Mike Dunleavy          Clippers

Just decided to put this out there.  The Warriors do have a chance to at the very least be mentioned in the awards listed above.  Some of you may question my addition of Don Nelson to coach of the year but if the Warriors do indeed make the playoffs wouldn't he have to be considered?  Also keep in mind that 2008-2009 was the first time in 7 seasons that a Don Nelson coached team finished under .500

The Warriors will have better chances of winning awards if they are to compete for individual awards. The most common exception seems to be ROY, which is determined largely on a combination of scoring average per game and draft position. It ignores most other factors such that if you put up 17 shots to make 20 points and were drafted near the top of the lottery, can’t play a lick of defense and are an anemic rebounder, you’ll win the award over more valuable contributors who score more efficiently and rebound who weren’t as hyped come draft time. Curry was drafted high enough such that if he’s among the top scorers among rookies, he could win the award.

6th Man and Improved awards will go to guys on playoff teams. If we’re not a playoff team, it’s probably indicative that no one on the team deserved either award as well.

Coach of the year?!

Maybe if we’re a top 4 seed and reach the Western Conference finals, but anything less, I HIGHLY doubt that Don Nelson will win coach of the year. My money’s on Flip Saunders of the Wizards, he’ll win at least 35-45 games and be in the playoffs with the Arenas back, which is way better than their 19 win season last year…

Hahah.

Coach of the year is a serious reach. Nellie ain’t getting anywhere near that with his hands off approach.

Coach of the Year

Can’t be that much of a stretch considering after this year, he will be the winningest coach in NBA history. If they play over .500, he should at least be in the conversation, just to acknowledge his NBA career. Yes, it would be ignoring all the fiasco that has been going on in Warrior land as of late, but speaking just about his win total achievement, he should be considered.

Barely anyone out there is predicting the Warriors to make the Postseason.

So if Nellie happens to lead this team into becoming a legit playoff team, 6th seed or higher, then I can see him winning coach of the year.

First off, the team has to be healthy. This season also depends on how well the players develops.

Oh yeah and Channing Frye should be a candidate for MIP, too.

with the drama surrounding the team this offseason and the low expectations, i don’t think the warriors would need to be a 6th seed or higher for nellie to be in the COY discussion. being in the playoff race would earn him a few votes; making the playoffs just might get him some hardware.

heart of a champion, will of the warrior.

Don’t forget a shooting title for Morrow. Azubuike has to be considered for this as well because he was 4th in the league.

Chris Cohan and Robert Rowell? Oh no hide the children!
