Excerpts From The Book The NBA Doesn't Want You To Read
BS or not, it's a good read. Yes, I know Donaghy is now a convicted criminal and his word should have no effect on anyone, but what he says (more like accusing), makes you think. Alot of accusations and such that will never see the light of day in a published book, but it really gets me thinking about all the referee personalities in the NBA. BTW, is it just me, or does it seem like Joey Crawford has something personal against the Warriors? He always seems to never give us a call when hes officiating one of our games...

Eh, some of this stuff is true I’m sure, I know I used to mess around when I reffed CYO. Speeding up the clock because we didn’t want to stay forever, making bets on the first foul call or something, making fun of some of the kids we didn’t like later on, minor stuff like that. The more serious stuff is probably heavily exaggerated. I’m sure a lot of the stuff he’s saying is blown way out of proportion for shock factor (which is why nobody’s willing to stand behind it)…

I read the exerpts and.......
I’m pretty mad at the response on GSOM. Nobody here has anything to say? ESPN and the NBA have basically made it clear that this is TRUE. Nothing on sports center…. PTI dissed it and the NBA said they’d sue if they publish it they WILL SUE!!!! It’s a cover-up folks. Open your eyes and bash the NBA. They want big market teams to win and they can control it. Stern= Hitler. Weird that a Jew = Hitler…… but think about it. Personally, I believe Donaghy. Think about it. The NBA threw him under a bus for their own benefit. I’d be pissed too! Has anyone even read the article?

As its been pointed out, too many boring Spurs finals for the NBA to have been controlling the outcome of who goes to the finals. Just because the NBA would sue, doesn’t mean the NBA is guilty. I can’t say they’re innocent, but I don’t know that they’re guilty, either. This guy who wrote the book is a PROVEN douche. If he can cheat and deal with organized crime, he can lie to make money. We ought to ignore him on principle and not assume that what he’s saying is all true. I say, he exaggerated a few things, at least. Of course he would do that. He’s a proven douche.

When someone gets into specifc details and names people directly it tends to have credibility as appoased to making vague accusations. I find his story to be very credible and supported by the facts for the games and refs he outlines. The league had better get a grip on how it calls games and get away from the Jordan rules way of calling games. Let the best team win based on merits and not on tv market share.

But when no publisher will stand behind said someone because he can’t substantiate any of his claims, that says something about the credibility of the story, too…
Even Canseco got his book published. Donaghy’s allegations are even less credible than Canseco’s were at the time. (The fact that we now know a lot of stuff Canseco said was true is besides the point)

It is amazing that this is not a bigger deal. Yes Donaghy could be lying outright, but he was convicted of gambling, so it was GOING ON in the NBA. Maybe not gambling, but the ‘deciding’ of games by refs. This cannot be disputed. Now the question is who else was involved and is it a league wide practice. To me it seems like if Donaghy was lying, Stern and the NBA would allow this thing to surface, knowing that none of it is true, and they could prove it. The NBA is scared of this book, because on some level it must be true. WATCH Game 6 2002 West Finals, Kings Lakers. I knew watching that game that something was fixed.
Honestly, how many Warriors games have we watched and scratched our heads and said whats up with that call etc. I’ve seen too many.
How this relates to the Warriors
Yes, management has been poor the past 15 or so years, but this ‘deciding’ throughout the league has indeed affected the Warriors. I’m thinking through games themselves more than anything.
Also, star players get preferential treatment against the dubs. No Doubt. But why? Why should they? There is no reason, I don’t care if there better. Us fans have come to accept the fact that the NBA needs its stars to play well, and will make calls so this happens, but the rest of the game is honest. The NBA doesn’t call traveling etc. This is all to make money, and its crazy to see people thinking that the Warriors can get better and win a championship if they play hard and make the right moves. For the most part, the NBA is going to pick who wins. If you don’t have a SHAQ, KOBE, LEBRON, HOWARD, GARNETT, or DUNCAN, you will not win a championship. This list stays around 6-7 players and if you don’t have one of them, most likely you wont win. Go ahead and tell me all the teams who have won without a superstar. Pistons? Maybe they were just that good. And the Lakers were that disfunctional.
Since Jordan won his first ‘chip in ’91, the Olajuwons have one two, the Jordans a total of 6, the Duncans 4, the Kobe/Shaqs 3, The Wade/ Shaqs 1, The Kobes 1, The Garnetts 1, and the only mystery team that has one of ’chip are the Pistons. But tell me this list isn’t small and the players who led the teams were a top 5 player in the league at the time. The NBA wants superstars to win. And if they can pull it, a star in a big market (LA, Boston…)
It would be great for the Warriors to make the playoffs and play well and exciting and everything (sarcasm)
But I’ve been watching this team for a long long time, and I’m sick of potential and guys like Curry and Randolph and Wright that might be good, they need time blah blah.. I want the Warriors to win a championship otherwise the season is wasted. HOw many years are people going to say, next year well be good, Randolph will be good. who cares, win now..
MOST IMPORTANT
Money is the reason the NBA exists. That cannot be argued. Everyone employed by the NBA is in it to make money. Everyone. The NBA is a product and Stern seemed like he wanted to provide the best product to the people, but he thought we were all stupider than we really are. Fitzgerald makes money from the NBA and is not going to lose his job to appease some fans. He is going to tow the party line and collect his check. Big markets, and superstars are the best product the NBA can put out, and it will try its hardest to do it.
Lebron to NY ’10……

The NBA is a big organization with a lot of money involved. The chances of corruption are 100%. This particular ref is proof, but I doubt that he’s very honest in his book. He probably doesn’t have a lot of first-hand knowledge about this stuff, I don’t think. He just wants to make money. Have some games been fixed? I think so. Often? Maybe. Do stars get preferential treatment? Yes. Is it a widespread conspiracy? No idea. This guy’s book adds nothing we can trust, IMO.

So… you and I discussing this doesn’t count as “surfacing?” If I were the NBA, I’d totally let my fans believe this. The more people are unhappy with the organization as a whole, they more fervently they support their own team/players (see: College Football vs. BCS).

Dang, this is an intense book.
I feel like I’d rather be ignorant than have all this stuff in the back of my mind.

Why won't this be published?!
I want to read the whole thing! This is very telling…

It is obvious some of the accusations are true. A Warriors game is a perfect example. Refs avoid calls in the Warriors favor like a plague. Granted we have had Jackson on the team the past few years and they certainly don’t like him. Beidrins on the other hand has been in the league long enough to not have stuff called against him as if he is a rookie. You can generally pass counting on one hand the number of times you will see a Warrior get mauled under the basket with no call, and the opponent takes it down and gets a very weak call in their favor. I guess the Warriors should accept how much they are going to get called for fouls and get their moneys worth on every one.

I also recall that Manu Ginobili drive in the last seconds of the 4th quarter that SHOULDVE been a no call. He got to the line, tied the game up, sent the game into OT and we consequently lost. And remember who worked that game? JOEY CRAWFORD!!!
WARRIORS BASKETBALL!!! Patiently waiting for a title...I may be waiting for a long time...
