Story Links: Curry, Morrow, more Game 1 observations, Game 2
(Rusty Simmons) When to shoot is an art cultivated by Curry, Nash - Nellie see similarities between Curry and Nash, who will face off with each other in Game 2.
(Marcus Thompson II) Nelson agrees Warriors' Morrow needs more shot - But how? It's like a tug of war. If Curry starts, Morrow suffers. If Curry comes off the bench, the starters suffer.
(Mike Massa) Season-opening observations: Maybe Jackson won't be here all season - More random observations from Game 1.
(Marcus Thompson II) Warriors' advance box for Friday's game at Phoenix - Biggest defensive mismatch: Channing Frye, an outside shooting center who will pull Biedrins out of the paint.

I will grant that very little of what the FO does makes sense, but I don’t see how you can argue that our coaching decisions don’t make sense. Don Nelson, the anti-rookie, started a rookie at PG because he is the best option. He is starting a 20 year old at PF because he is the best option, he is instructing his team to find the best 3-pt shooter in the league because…that’s pretty obvious. What exactly doesn’t make sense?

That he planned to play Montay at point then 2 days before the opener switched to the rookie Curr-bury based on his performance in on preseason game? Montay had just as good of a preseason game a couple before that. I think Nellie just doesn’t care anymore and sold out to the PR folks demands to get the hot ticket onto the floor.
I guess Nellie figured he’ll win his quota of games and retire no matter who he puts on the court now so why worry about it?

So you are saying a good coach should never change his mind based on the facts in front of him and his evaluation of the talent he has to work with? I mean, did you watch the first game? Curry looked pretty good to me.
Your game is, and has been, consistently weak for some time now.

“Pretty good” is not enough reason to disrupt the team and piss off your best player. How would you like it if they hired a new kid right out of school and gave him your desk after you’d been the top employee for a few years? Let the kid come in and learn the ropes, put in some time at the crappy jobs then move him into a featured role when he’s paid his dues. Everyone would respect him and the process a lot more then.

Monta is an idiot if he’s pissed off. Curry tore it up in the last game of the pre-season. He’s played like an NBA point guard so far, as a rookie. That suggests he’s going to tear it up as time goes on, in my mind. Monta is still getting his minutes and in fact, when he plays the point so far, doesn’t fare as well as Curry has.
Welcome to the Pit of Despair! Don't even think about trying to escape.

So what? Montay tore it up in an earlier preseason game.
The reason he should be pissed is that they suddenly changed plans and started focusing on showcasing the new golden boy instead of concentrating on winning. The loss of direction and the time spent working Curr-bury into the starters role is affecting the game play and Montay and Jax and the other tenured players know it.
If Curr-bury is the future there woulda been plenty of time to figure that out without dissing the other players, this should have been his watching and learning year and next year he’d be an accepted part of the team and it would have been a smooth transition.

“Yes I do, being he’s the 3-point leader,” Ellis said when asked if he feels a need to get Morrow more shots.
"But also, he’s got to find his own shot,‘’ Ellis continued. "And he’s got to be in the spot we can see him so he can get his open shots. But he’s going to be all right."
Another solution is to play Morrow, a reserve, with rookie guard Stephen Curry, whom Nelson regards as the team’s best passer and floor general. Curry said he always looks to pass to Morrow, which is why Nelson considered bringing Curry off the bench so the two could play together.
Monta will never be a real PG as long as he only looks to pass to Jackson.
