Is it just me or are you guys also noticing
That the coaching staff, players, and fans are showing way more excessive body language and facial expressions whenever a foul is being called? Yes, I'm trying to make a point that everyone is aware of the book and all have probably read the same excerpts. It is going to be pretty interesting as time passes because the NBA has made a statement that they will read the book and act accordingly.
I think Donaghy is scheduled to be released later this week so I'm sure he's going to be stormed by reporters about the book and if he can prove the statements are true. As most of you know he mentioned names in the book and those people can sue him for infringement... (I think that's what it's called from business law) so he better be careful on what he says during those interviews.
After reading the excerpts I've become pretty disgusted about the way the NBA was ran up till this season. There were probably games that were ran last season but this season should be different now that the refs have all been put on blast by the media. I hate knowing that games have been rigged for this many years because I gamble too and I've mostly been on the losing side =*(
The thing I think sucks most about this is that the refs probably hated the Warriors squad the most so games have always been called against us for years... no wonder we only made playoffs once in 15 seasons. Ok Ok, I know it's just silly excuses but I'm sure it had to count for a number of games over the years. Maybe I'm just crazy but I think these refs gotta go and I think we would have been better with those D-League refs... at least we know they could make trustworthy calls and improve as time goes by.
Whatever, but I think whenever you've worked the bizz for plenty of years you're going to know how to work the bizz for your own benefits. Am I right? I would if I worked the same job for 20 + years and no one ever questioned you besides a silly rating system.

The refs have always favorited people
But now that this has come out people are more aware. I would have bought the book…

We loss
alot of games over the years because of the refs. One that stands out the most is in 07/08 against the Lakers when they called offensive foul on Monta Ellis when Fisher clearly grabbed him. It was one game, but that game could have been our 1 game to make the playoffs. But hey can’t change the past

Yeah..
I remember I went to that game. Derek Fisher clearly pulled Monta down to the floor. Heres the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piHxZ42ILtA

Yep I remember that, I was pretty livid after. But it’s just a shtty chain of events. Monta is running into Fisher which didn’t make sense, Fisher steps and trips on Barons foot (You can clearly see it at 8:40), and what are peoples reactions when they fall? Grab someone
Like the video hold says, it should’ve been a no call, but it could’ve gone any way.

Oh yea
And what pissed me off the most was how Nelson ran a High School Stack inbounds play. He really couldn’t come up with a pick and pop or anything else?

lmao @ these conspiracy theorists
When you’re rooting for a team you will notice all the bad calls going for your team, you don’t even have time to appreciate the calls we get or even to notice it. Goes for all team sports that are televised, especially when your team sucks or isn’t good.

I’ve noticed games where the Warriors get the majority of the calls, but most of them can be chocked up to Corey Maggette.

The officiating in the NBA is the worst in all of major sports. The favoritism and star f***ing that goes on is what killed my interest in NBA basketball for the 10 years between 1994 and 2004. It wasn’t until the Pistons of 2004 managed to be so successful without one of the “anointed ones” on their roster that I began to pay attention again. While I do not doubt that some games have been intentionally thrown by the refs, I cannot say I think it is endemic to the league. I would say the problem has far more to do with simple bad judgement. The fact that sliding underneath an airborne player is CONSISTENTLY rewarded with a charging call, despite the fact that it endangers the players and the rules clearly forbid it is shameful.
The media coddling of the officials is even worse. I understand that commentators are essentially paid representatives of the league, but a little bit of honesty would be nice. We are only talking about 10 players on a 90 foot court, with 3 officials taking a triangulated view of the action at all times. They should NOT be getting the majority of the calls wrong, and yet I would say that is exactly what is taking place on a routine basis. Despite this, all we hear is that “officials have the hardest job on the court.” No they don’t.
A whole generation of players has grown up (with Reggie Miller and Corey Maggette as poster children) believing that getting fouled is just as good as actually making a play. It disgusts me whenever an older player baits a younger guy into fouling by swinging his arms up or kicking his legs out. Then when the commentators pat him on the back for his “veteran savvy” I typically require a heavy sedative to avoid throwing something through my TV screen.
These are the greatest athletes in the world. Let them play.

I've noticed it
From the games I’ve seen, I’ve noticed it, but I think it has more to do with the fact that the refs are still adjusting to the fast pace of the game after their time off for a while. I know they are professional refs, but after a long break they do get rusty.

To me it didn't take Donaghy's book
It has been apparent since the early 90’s that refs favored certain players (and teams to a lesser extent) than others, it started with the “Jordan rules.” And it’s obvious that it comes from the top, otherwise senile old men like Bavetta and Salvator would have been given walking papers a long, long, long time ago. I don’t know if I am alone in thinking this, but it seems to me that home teams seem to get a lot more touch fouls and cheap calls than road teams do, especially in the playoffs. For whatever reason this happens, I feel the refs should constantly be under intense scrutiny and review. Only then will they feel the need to improve.

ref highlights
i wish someone would start making highlights of the bad calls the warriors get. I attended the home opener and the differencec in the game that i saw was the foul calls. We got some bad ones. in the first quarter both randolph and beidrins being clearly pushed as Beans dunked and randolph had to do a hook because he was pushed with two hads on the waste away from the basket.
I like to think I have and objective opinion. We’ve had courtside tickets for years and i’ve know most the refs in the league. I can tell you who’s good and who’s bad, so i watch and see it pretty closely. it seems the warriors have always had the short end of the stick when it comes to calls. Like they are the black sheep in the league. Refs just don’t like them. I would love it if someone (who ever does all these highlight videos) would start doing ones on warrior games. We could then send it to the league.
I can’t remember the Phoneix game but, the number of fouls was ridicculously lopsided. I would love to see a vid with ticky tack (i like to call them dwane wade fouls) on one end and then the hard foul that went uncalled on our end. It’s getting ridiculous and we need to do something about it.
I believe nearly every word Donahey said in the exerts to his book. The refs in this league are a joke. Does anyone remeber two years ago in the western conference finals when Brent barry hit a couple threes to put SA in contention for the lead. They found him again, open and he pulled up for a three that would have given them the lead with very little time left. If they won that game they would have gone to the finals and faced the celtics. Barry pump faked, fisher fouled him as clear as any foul i’ve ever seen and Barry missed the shot. He shoot like 90% from the strip right? He would have went to the line and won that game and it would have been a totally different story. What happened? The league wanted Celtics vs Lakers. That was complete BS. How do you miss that call. The whole world saw it and it decided a series. Game seven was in LA and they closed it out and went on the finals only to lose to the Celtics.
I think we need to start these highlight reels of Blown calls, put the refs and NBA on notice. We are watching. They’re ruining the integraty of the game. I say we blow em up and we could do it. Can you image blown call highlights on evey blog across america?
I used to ref games too. I understand what they have to do. It’s not a tuff job. A foul is a foul. If it didn’t happen, what did they see. Someones got to keep these guys accountable and we can do it. Let’s bring integrity back to the game.
