A risky trade, would you do it?

Would you trade Maggette for Caron Butler? But wait there's a catch, we give up our 1st round pick. We have looked good lately and I think this could get us back in the playoff picture but at what cost? Gain an all star and lose a bad contract, lose a 1st rounder. Would you do a trade like this? I know Maggs has played well lately but it's an interesting thought.

Just seeing how far we are willing to go.

Lets say were offered the trade after the lottery and were in the 6 + range in the lottery

I doubt we will be bad enough to get up into the top 3 or maybe even top 5. I think we will probably get the 6th – 9th spot. We’ll say this trade happens in the off season.

And like I said

If it gets us into the playoff picture if this would happen now we wouldn’t be in position for a top guy.

Sure that's a pointless question, but Caron Butler and Corey Maggette aren't extremes like Monta and LeBron.

Butler and Maggette are a lot closer, leaving for more of a debate. Thanks.

hmm...

Like everyone else said, I doubt the Wizards do it, but Its an interesting thought. Its concerning that Caron Butler is just as injury prone as Maggette, but a healthy Butler is substantially better than a healthy Maggette. You’d be gambling on Butler’s health this year (to get out of the lottery). A healthy Butler is in the 2nd best SF in the NBA conversation. The part that would really worry me is the idea of Nellie sticking him at PF the rest of the year. He’s probably even less suited for that type of role than Maggette. I think I’d say no, but as a pretty big Butler fan I would at least be tempted.

I don’t know (i know it’s only 11 games in). it looks like he’s lost a step that he couldn’t afford to lose.

defensively he’s far better than all of them except LeBron.

Granger puts up pretty impressive defensive stats (blocks and steals) but I don’t think he’s anywhere near the complete defensive player Butler is. Though I’ve gotta admit I have yet to see Butler play this year and the only game I’ve seen Granger play was the GS game.

I would probably do it

though it would be best if we had a clause saying we keep the first rounder if it’s a top-5 pick, or something like that. Those are somewhat common draft pick trades, and very applicable here….

but, like others said, I don’t see why the wiz would do it unless we added another key player…

and in response to sam23, I would say he is easily on Granger’s level (and Durant’s, right now, given durant’s often poor rebounding, passing, tos, and %). The difference between butler and granger is that butler is happy to play second and third fiddle to Jamison and Arenas. But, as we saw last year and the year before, he is more than capable of averaging 22ppg, 8 rpg and 5apg, when he needs to be the all-star that he has been (twice)

I think they may do it

I think change is on the way there and trades will happen with them. Why not get a lottery pick out of a good player if you can? Maggs is interesting since there bench players other than Foye don’t give them too much and Maggs could help. While there at it they can draft a small forward or a shooting guard to go along with Arenas. I think there about to blow up there team since it’s been the same for them for a while and have not gone anywhere even healthy.

true

I’d give them another 10 games of sucking, then i don’t see why they wouldn’t pull the trigger on a trade like this…
