Wanna see the media notes for the Warriors?
Another fanshot that ran way too long to be a fanshot.
While looking at tomorrow's game @Mavs at nba.com, I found a link to the Warriors "Media Notes". I assume this is the stuff that Bob and Jim and Tim (and opposing broadcasters) get to sift through before each game.
Lots and lots of team and per player stats and fun stuff to make you look like a broadcasting genius. For example, did you know...
- Warriors have the top scoring bench:
| Team | Bench | PPG |
|---|---|---|
| 1. | Golden State | 44.9 |
| 2. | San Antonio | 41.5 |
| 3. | New York | 41.5 |
| 4. | Dallas | 38.3 |
- Ranked Top 10 in these nine categories:
| CATEGORY | AVERAGE | RANK |
|---|---|---|
| Points Per Game | 109.6 | 2nd |
| Field Goal Percentage | .486 | 2nd |
| Three-Point Percentage | .398 | 4th |
| Assists Per Game | 22.4 | 7th |
| Steals Per Game | 10.00 | 1st |
| Points-In-The-Paint | 47.5 | 5th |
| Fast-Break Points | 23.3 | 1st |
| Points off Turnovers | 24.1 | 1st |
| Turnovers Forced Per Game | 19.7 | 1st |
- The last guy who scored 20+ pts and 20+ rebounds was Mike Dunleavy.
- Azubuike's name means "the past is your strength" in Igbo.
- Chris Hunter's nickname is "Slim".
There's only one link for the Warriors, so I presume the stats in pdf gets updated and regenerated nightly, but the background info doesn't change much. It looks like there's one for each team, so you can find another team by looking for one of their games at nba.com, look for the box score, and there should be a "Media Notes" button under the team's icon.
Have fun!

-The Warriors’ 108-94 win over Portland on Friday night was their ninth in a row over the Trail Blazers in Oakland. Golden State’s last home loss to Portland was more than five years ago - Nov. 4, 2004.
—The Warriors snapped a three-game losing streak.
—The Warriors’ previous three wins (against Memphis, New York and Minnesota) were over teams with a combined 7-28 record through Friday’s games. Portland entered the contest with a 9-4 mark.
—The Trail Blazers had held each of their last six opponents to 85 points or fewer in regulation. The Warriors had 83 points by the end of the third quarter.
—Because of the team’s injury situation, the NBA allowed the Warriors to sign a 16th player to their roster. Chris Hunter, a 25-year-old center who averaged 19.3 points per game in the NBA Developmental League last season, joined the Warriors to be an eighth healthy body in uniform. Without the benefit of a single practice with the team, he played 14 minutes, contributing four points, three rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot to the win.
-“It was just a fun game. It’s what we’ve been missing.” - Monta Ellis, after Friday’s 108-94 home win over Portland
Didnt know until the other night that free throws resulting from a foul during potential fast break are counted in fast break points stats.
I didnt feel like we were running enough to be first place in that category, but if you count Monta getting fouled at half court with most everyone else trailling, those are fast break points from the line.
These are some beautiful stats
Steals Per Game 10.00 1st
Points-In-The-Paint 47.5 5th
Fast-Break Points 23.3 1st
Points off Turnovers 24.1 1st
Turnovers Forced Per Game 19.7 1st
Keep it up boys.

I prefer to look at as 1-2 against Cleveland, Boston, and Portland. The rest of the season didn’t count.

if we had have been able to move jack earlier...
we probabl wouldn’t have gotten blown out by clippers and kings….
These are some beautiful stats
So what stats account for our bad record? How are we in points allowed or rebounds or opponents shooting percentage for instance? If we ever get over .500 then the good stats might mean something.

They don’t show those stats to Fitz because the Warriors like to brainwash him into thinking we’re going to be fine.

cmon, fitz isn't that bad
He admits they are an awful rebounding team. he just doesn’t take the kawakami gloom and doom everything is a conspiracy angle. I believe fitz said, best case scenerio if team is fully healthy they can push .500
Beautiful tables IQ!
Well done.
Wow, didn’t think we were that high in FG%. I thought we’ve been shooting terribly this year.
I’m pretty sure we’re 1st in points allowed.
This is Kristin Kreuk, now zip it. - GTTM
Hah
we probably are. More technically, we’re probably 30th in points allowed. But those media notes don’t mention that.

Wouldn't that be the Raptors?
Pretty sure they officially have the worst defense in the league right now.

It is amazing the type of stuff that is regularly availbale to broadcasters
Not only that, I have to give credit to the announcers. I work int he hospitality industry and deal a lot with the NBA teams when they visit the Sacramento Kings (I work in Sactown). The media packets that these announcers get come the night before a game. The media packets themselves are about the size of a large padded envelopes. (8 1/2 by 11) These packets are filled to the brim with paperwork.
Unfortunately the packets come to us sealed so we never have a chance to peer inside of them. But props to the announcers (some of them) who do a good job analyzing this data.
The other funny part about working in the hotels these players stay in is the aliases they use while staying. Can’t go into great detail about them, but there are some pretty good ones.
Dunleavy's20-20 night
I remember this game, good stuff by the floppy haired one. Randolph will get a 20-20 game this season though
how many turnovers will he have? and what will be his fg%?
my guess…. 21 points, 22 rebounds (7 offensive)…. 4-12 from the field, 13-15 from the line, 2 steals, 2 blocks, 5 turn overs
Didn't Danny Fortson, Marc Jackson and Erick Dampier all have 20-20 games also
For some reason I wouldn’t read too much into that stat for players on the Warriors
