I think it's time that we finally hand over the team to Monta
There has been so much talk about Monta the past couple of months that we forgot how good he really was. We signed him to a $66 million contract for a reason, and that reason was because we wanted to hand over the team to him. We've been caught up in all of this media blabber and forgot that maybe it was always the medias intention to turn our backs on Monta. The game Monta played in Portland really got me amped up about whats to come for the rest of the season. Monta is all star caliber no question!
I forgot what freak of an athlete Monta was before Portlands game; his lighting fast change of gears then finishing with silky smooth layups. Please, name one other person in the NBA that can pull off the kind of layups Monta does night in and night out. If Monta can truly become a better passer and put in the same effort on D against Brandon Roy, we're going to have ourselves a very intriguing/unique specimen on our team for a loooong time.(5+years?)
The last interview I heard with Monta was that he clearly wanted to be a Warrior for as long as possible, and why wouldn't he?! This is HIS team! If he were to go to another organization he might not be their main man. So having that said, I do not mind at all to have Stephen Curry be our point guard because clearly Monta can guard the bigger 2 guards now. Curry is clearly the better point guard right now so let him be the point! The star of the team doesn't have to be the point guard, ala Kobe Bryant. When the game is on the line I want the ball to be in Monta's hands because that's what a leader or a star does. We have to let Monta become the star that we always wanted him to be and for that to happen he has to make the big plays for us.
I'm not sure if I'm the only one that thinks we may have started to hate on Monta a bit too much but all I'm trying to say is we should all start to believe in Monta and know that he'll do what's good for the team from here on out. I feel after Portlands game were going to have a pretty surprising season and our season starts now as a brand new team... hopefully Turiaf, Biedrins, Watson, Wright, Azubuike, Nellie, and now Anthony Randolph get better soon and we can gain back some respect from this league... Dang our team is probably worse off than last season,That's sad!!! LGW!!

Hey Bojangles408
U had some very great points about the media & how it may have just been them saying all the negative things in regards to Monta. In one of his interviews Monta said unless you hear it / see it come from his mouth & u believe it that’s totally on you; I’m a Warrior today; the rest of the season & 4 years after that. There’s been a whole lot of he said floating around the Warriors, since the start of the season; once they get some bodies back things will be turning around. Besides it has yet 2 b determined how long Bell will be out; if he comes back some real great things can happen for this team. & 4 all those ban-wagers you better jump back on now b4 it’s too late.

Thanks man
It’s always the medias intention to get the fans stirred up because that’s what their job is. Forgot to mention Bell. He is a very great teammate in the locker room and I loved hearing that he pulled Randolph aside and gave him a tough lecture.

I agree. That statement will hold VERY true if this team continues to play at the level they did last Friday and keep it consistent for the rest of the year. Defeating the Blazers was a slight indication of what this Warriors team can be and I’m hoping a continuous play this week will show an indication what the Warriors are.
Of course in these next three games I want the Dubs to go 3-0 because battling on the road against the Mavs (who I have been impressed with so far this year), Spurs, and the Lakes at home would be a very good test, but if they don’t then I want to see the same type of effort they gave against the Blazers.
I know that game on Friday was “just one” game, but I left the Roaracle feeling really good about this week knowing what they are capable of.
GO WARRIORS still. GO KEITH SMART.

Monta is a Warrior today...
And he will be a Warrior tomorrow, however he can never lead a team. His interviews? I’ve been a long time follower of GSM, and today I am a first time writer, but his inability to talk to the press is a great reason why he can’t be a leader. It’s clear why he went to the NBA without going to college, he can barely pronounce his own name. M-O-N-T… What was the question? Don’t get me wrong, I love Monta being on the team. He does it all! But how can you go into a huddle after a time out, and listen to your leader sound like L.T. in the Waterboy,
“Well, what I does is see, when that guy has the ball, we just go after him. When they shoot it, well we all crash and gets some rebound. After that, we runs the fast breaks and my teamsmates gets me the ball so we’s score. Thats just what we gottas keep doin to win them games.” (not an actual quote)
When the whole roster is working together, then great! We have so many key pieces that I can’t wait to see the whole team working together. Even Raja can help this team with his leadership and experience. But as far as Motna’s leadership… I loved watching him play so well tonight, but he can’t be a genuine leader. Just glad we managed to pull out a win!
Look out San Antonio, Monta is gonna eats you’s alives.

You're just being insulting to the Warriors' best player
He’s not stupid. He’s showing what he can do on the court. Have you never heard of “lead by example?” Also, George Bush was a fine leader (his direction, you can question, but a leader he was), and Sarah Palin is a leader too, yet they have both had quite a few moments of spoken numbskullery.

Monta appears to be a whiner
Maybe he is fine, but he just wants to complain all the time. That doesnt show me that he is a leader, so this team is still going to need someone like Bell to come in and be the vocal leader while Monta is the leader on the floor, setting the tone during the game.
I originally thought the team wouldnt need a volcal player-leader with Nellie on board, but that has proven to be a mistake. Despite being a tough as nails player, Nellie has lost touch a bit with what a coach needs to be for a team like the Warriors

A few things
The game was NOT “in Portland,” Monta hasn’t done that “night in and night out,” and while the media may blow things out of proportion, they want the Warriors to succeed because it means more national attention and more $$$ for them.
For Monta to be a star, he has to perform like last game consistently. He has not done that. It’s all well and good to look at things through the rosy colored glasses, but being realistic, Monta needs to step his game up if he wants to be “the man” on a good team. His insecurity and to a lesser extent his whininess is a non-issue for me. Others (e.g. MJ) have used those things as a driving force. Not everybody needs to be all PC to be successful. Monta just needs to show up consistently, he needs his jumper back, the Warriors need to decide what they want from him (PG or SG, I think they’ve decided), and the internal drama needs to simmer down (the Jax trade should have helped a lot). We’ve got a fine player, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves and proclaim him a star just yet.

He needs to work on his handles too.
and not dribble the ball over his head.
Plus everything else you said.

exactly!
It was one freaking game! Should we have handed Morrow “the keys to the team” when he scored over 30 a couple times last year?
Plus I don’t even know what you mean by “hand over the keys” to Monta. Do you mean give him more shots? Do you mean talk about him as if he is the leader of the team? What exactly do you mean by that?

whatever man, you know what I mean! haha.
Unless your from some foreign country where they don’t have that expression, don’t play dumb so you have to avoid answering the question! haha. I meant, hand the team over to Morrow.

It's official... it's now Monta's team!
After tonights win against the Mavs, Monta is playing at an MVP level competitive with Melo and Nash in this early season. If Monta can stay healthy and not have to play all 48 minutes each game, PLAYOFFS Baby!
by bick on Nov 24, 2009 10:02 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Sigh...
He had a good game, but 11 turnovers suggest that he’s not Nash. And his cramps suggest that he cannot continue to play 48 minutes a game.

No player should be expected to play 48 minutes a game
That’s why NBA teams are made of more than 6 players… Pretty much any player playing at the pace the Warriors do will get messed up after 3 full quarters of play. And while Monta did need some calf massaging, he did not let up on the floor.

I never said Monta was a star
I said lets let him become the star that we always wanted him to become. He has to show the NBA that he is the leader of this team and a very good one at that.

I just don’t see what this focus is on “leadership”. Let’s focus to the more important thing – how Monta plays basketball….
