I had a feeling

this poll would be a landslide. I should have taken Monta Ellis out of the poll and asked the readers to vote for a “secondary” Warrior Wonder. Now THAT would be interesting.

can we talk about how foolish, misguided, and knee-jerky, those are for having clamored for a monta trade?
thanks, kawakami

Including Monta himself?

No, I’m being a smart ass. Personally, I really lost it when I read his agent was meeting with the team to discuss trade options. I’ll still be critical of him when he’s being negative, but I’ll continue singing his praises as long as he’s our best player and playing/behaving as such.

As long as I didn’t hear anymore about him trying to get out, I’m good.

BAD VLAD!

OK – I knew Monta was going to break out, once ballhog Jack was traded.

But I expected jack from Raja and Vlad after that trade.

BAD VLAD IN THE HOUSE! Vlad has played massive minutes and looked good! Guarding Nowitzki and Duncan… not shutting them down of course (who can?), but still doing a better job than anyone else we’ve had on the roster in years.

A big “WOW” for Bad Vlad. It may not last, but he’s given us a lot already.

And here’s a sincere hope that Monta comes around and decides he wants to stay. He and Steph both want the ball in their hands, but so what? The chemistry between them is undeniable. Two of the best overall guards in the Association.

Though.. Curry is an incredibly valuable trade piece right now. Maybe even more than Monta. 10 or 15 owners and GMs sat up fast and took notice when King James came over to talk to Steph at the end of the Cavs game… hmmm… already knew the Knicks lusted after him…

I wonder what will we look like with a whole team? But I can’t see Ellis sitting so someone else can get minutes. We have a shot at the playoffs, but this may not be our year, but look out next year. The speed and up tempo, God this is a fun team to watch.

Well, I came to this road trip just hoping for two competitive losses, being able to split the games and force the Spurs starters back late into the game is more than I could have asked for.

I agree with what they have been saying about the game. Monta was an absolute MONSTER, but no one else was able to bring their A game so when the Spurs finally shut him down no one could pick up the slack. Monta for WW without a shadow of a doubt.

Yeah someone else needed to step up. Curry couldn’t find his shot and kept giving the ball away. I kept wondering why this team doesn’t make any effort at all to run plays to Morrow a look.

This is a completely different looking team than the one I saw playing three weeks ago versus the Clippers (a night I’d rather forget). They are gelling well, gaining confidence, playing minus the drama Jack brought into the locker room, and having fun in the process. You take away a few bad decisions, and this could have been a stretch where we had wins in the last 5 games instead of just Portland and Dallas!

Honestly, I was expecting blowout losses from each of those teams after seeing us lose so readily to fellow gutter teams such as the Kings and Clips.

by ryogahibiki on Nov 26, 2009 7:43 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

It’s a pretty amazing turnaround. I’m not at all convinced that this is a good team, but it’s a likeable and competitive team, which is far more than you could’ve said after the Clippers and Kings losses, despite better health then. And I’d expect Biedrins and Turiaf to fit in well to this new smoother style, as both are willing and capable passers.

.500 is too much to ask, but it should be an enjoyable season, if Nellie coaches passably and more drama doesn’t erupt.

Can't wait for Biedrins to get back

I keep wondering how the team would have looked with Biedrins last night. I gotta think he would have at least tried to grab that one rebound where Moore just ran the other way.

I like the way the team is looking right now, but think Biedrins would give them much more of a shot blocking/rebounding presence. I’d like to see what a starting lineup of Curry/Ellis/Morrow/Vlad/Biedrins could do. Turiaf and Randolph can provide big-man depth and have extra fouls to give against the likes of Duncan.

I’d like to see what a starting lineup of Curry/Ellis/Morrow/Vlad/Biedrins could do.

Vlad is not gonna get any better than what you’ve seen from him while Rudolf likely is. We also don’t really need Curr-Bury and Montay on the floor together, more useful to play one of them with a big 2 guard then we could play at a more sustainable pace for a whole season. Smallball can only work for so long then it wears out players.

Monta and Steph Curry

Good things happen to GSW when those two are on the floor at the same time!

it’s all relative, look what happens when you pair a parker with a Duncan? Montay and Curr-bury is more like a parker and a parker.

Like many before them

lately, the refs have been hatin’ on the Bay

by Aware1 on Nov 26, 2009 10:52 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Refs can fix a game too!

At the professional level where big money is involved, sports leagues do whatever it takes to keep the fanbase spending……..For about 4 years now, the refs have proven to call the game more favorably for GSW opponents. Like is warranted in politics – equal protection clauses please. Rules should not be adjusted for “certain players and teams” over others. This is sooooooooooooooooo obvious to those who pay attention!

Bad habits

The Warriors seemed to revert back to some bad habits on offense. Not much ball movement and a little too much one on one. Perhaps SA’s more disciplined defense had something to do with it, but the drive and kicks were practically non-existent. And the easy looks and buckets that RadVlad, Morrow, and even Curry had during the Mavs game were practically non-existent as they traded that in for more one-on-one game, which we realized they are not individually capable of yet.

The Warriors are definitely looking better post-Jackson but I hope this team can grow and build together a bit more as we have seen in the few wins lately.

Monta and Maggette

Still making TOO MANY ROOKIE MISTAKES! 42 points is nothing compared to what could have been less all the stupid rookie mistakes and unforced turnovers! That was a very, very winable game, damn straight!!!!!!

by jlcdb70 on Nov 26, 2009 12:18 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Rookie mistakes involve assignment miscues & not being where you’re supposed to be on offense & defense, not understanding defensive principles, not reading defenses correctly and other things of that nature.

The mistakes Monta & Corey are more flaws in physical & mental flaws that come with their game. They can’t help throwing passes that are way too hard, not making the extra pass, over dribbling, not being able to contest shots, etcetera. That’s who they are. They’re going to have unforced turnovers. Fortunately, they have strengths as well that counteract those flaws to some degree.

Though now that I think about it, Monta did make the young player mistake of getting caught back door by Tony Parker like 6 or so times in that game.

They weren’t going to win that game since they had no viable gameplan to stop Duncan 10-12 shooting with 6 assists to 1 turnover or Parker who was 10-18 and was12-17 from the line. They seemed to be more intent on stopping Bonner from having any space to shoot the 3 (he was only able to launch once in 12 minutes.

Also don’t know why Curry & Morrow were so quick to close out on Bogans & Jefferson (respectively) when neither were hitting from outside. They should have just dared those 2 to shoot and stayed at home on Mason.

I'm quoting this MTII section in case people miss it because I thought this was hilarious
Early in the game, Tony Parker drove to the basket and was tripped. Though he never got the shot up before spilling to the floor, Parker was He was awarded two shots, drawing a mild outburst from the Warriors’ bench. Keith Smart protested the call to official Bennett Salvatore, who told Smart he thought Parker was shooting.

SMART: "He could’ve been going to get a Bud Light. You don’t know."

I don't understand all the hoopla around Monta's performance...

… I listened to the game on the radio. As before, he was totally on it in the first half, but I knew they’d get killed late in the 3rd quarter when he either burnt out or hit a skid. Didn’t everyone else realize this? After all, wasn’t it just a few days ago on one of the post-game posts that folks were talking about how the great, “team-carrying” guys need to do their work in the fourth quarter? Monta took everyone else out of the game, the number of assists through the first half was much lower per basket than in their previous two wins. Move the ball, figure out who else is on fire. And don’t let this person be Curry, either, since his jumpers seem to reduce the flow, not intensify it. Until he learns to can the open J on a consistent basis, he’s hurting the team. Isn’t it obvious why he had a bunch of clean looks? It’s because he poses no real threat at all.

Just because Monta can score, doesn’t mean that he should score. Not if we’re going to keep winning.

by paris7 on Nov 27, 2009 10:58 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

I'm with you Paris

IT was ALL MONTA, all of the time, and as a result the ball movement that had been key to our past 2 wins turned into players standing around and watching. It also resulted in our defensive prowess in the Dallas and Portland games being all but missing. I hope we can get back to that, and make our fast break and shutting down productive guards the signature of our season. More Morrow, more Rad, more assists from everyone. We have some work to do to get to playing 500 ball.
