When is the Keith Smart Era going to Start?

Man..... Last night we saw a glimpse into a possible future. Not only did our team play together and had awesome ball movement, but the coaching was outstanding! One things that impressed me about Keith Smart's coaching was his defensive matchups. When the Mavs had their small lineup of Kidd, Barea, and Terry where Kidd was obviously the PG on the floor, he kept Anthony Morrow on Kidd. Instead of matching up defensively by position, he was able to set the matchups based on skill set. Terry was their biggest offensive threat in the backcourt so he stuck Monta Ellis on Jason Terry. And since Kidd was the slowest and oldest out of the bunch, he kept Morrow on him which prevented the postup games Kidd likes to go to and Morrow was even able to keep up with Kidd off the dribble. I also liked the Vlad vs Dirk matchup. Vlad is shorter than Dirk but he was able to use his quickness to keep up and stayed down on most headfakes. Sure Dirk got his 28 points, but he was shutout in the 4th quarter which was key to our win. The only change I would've made was to put Chris Hunter in against Drew Gooden but I think Mikki Moore did a decent job against him so i didn't mind too much. We need to start the Keith Smart Era Soon!!!

they did the same exact thing vs Portland putting Morrow on Miller.

AR once again played the least amount of minutes.

they had 7 guys available, but foolishly played 6.

Mikki Moore almost lost the game by himself with his slow rotations and zero shot-changing abilities. -12 (no one else was less than +8 and AR was +12). Cut his minutes in half and play Hunter or AR for those minutes and the game isn’t even close.

this is the whole back up QB effect – just like everyone has rose-colored glasses about Alex Smith when he’s still basically the same 15 TD, 15 INT guy he was back when Norv was the OC.

the real problem with Nellie is that i’m just not sure he values defense enough to pick up or draft players like Sefolosha or Chuck Hayes or Big Ben & Bowen in their day type of player. just like Colangelo built in Phoenix & Toronto or Mullin here – Nellie is the type that values players with skills like Bargnani over a tough guy defender like Kendrick Perkins.

True AR got the least amount of minutes

but considering he was reported as doubtful with a knee injury, i think Smart did the “smart” thing by not over working him.

i also did mention that i would’ve put in Hunter to guard Gooden. please read the last sentence of my post.

mikki moore is trash and we all know it. he knows it. but at least we are getting some kind of production out of him.

considering the fact that the last time a team won with 6 players playing was back in 1952…. i say Smart did very good considering what he had to work with…

I just don’t understand how you can go about criticizing a victory against one of the top teams in the NBA at their house.

Do you watch games or just read stats? Dallas is top 3 in the NBA in rebounds, do you know who is the worst? Yep the Warriors. Yesterday we out rebounded the Mavs 46 – 41, try again.
