Monta back in the top 25. Who on this list is he better than at this point? I'd like to hear your opinion.

9. Andrea Bargnani
Age: 24
Previous rank: N/R
Movement: Welcome back!
Seven footers who shoot 42 percent from beyond the arc are rare. (Which is probably why the Raptors drafted Bargnani first overall in 2006.) Bargnani creates a huge offensive advantage for Toronto. And while his defense is second rate, his rebounding has improved this season and he appears more willing to absorb contact. At 7-11, the Raptors are not an elite team in the East. But they do have an elite offense. Bargnani is one of the key reasons why.
Warriors fans are going to smell blood once they see Bargs this high and Monta Ellis low (more on this later). The difference is that Bargnani is an upper echelon outside shooter and he makes his team better. Also, the Raptors have a legitimate chance to make the playoffs this season.
I was thinking the same thing—“Why the F is Bargs ahead of Monta?!?!”
I’m sorry but there is no justification for a guy who only plays half the court. He’s much better offensively this year, but how much is he giving up to his opponent? Probably too much since Toronto is terrible defensively.
Warriors, Stupidest franchise in the league.
I told Randolph that Bill Russell would tell him to keep that ball in play and start the break.

Last time I checked, the Warriors were no great shakes on defense either

Good thing we're not talking team defense then

a refusal to rebound and defend don’t really “make your team better”. a spot up shooter from the 5 should not sniff the top 10 on this list. classic overvaluing of scoring here.

If I overvalued scoring, I would have taken Monta in a heartbeat
…and remind me, how is Monta a worldbeater on defense all the sudden? Because Kobe had a bad night? Well, the Warriors still lost by 30+, so I’m sorry, that hardly counts as a defensive triumph.

i wasn’t talking about monta. i’m saying that bargnani, a completely one dimensional player, should not be in your top ten. he’s wildly overrated. anthony morrow could play the 5 for the raps and they wouldn’t skip a beat. it’s not an advantage to be 7’ foot if you’re afraid to rebound or defend the paint.
and if you want to make comparisons between monta and bargnani, monta rebounds and defends his position better. bargnani has become a better scorer this year, though it’s still a very small sample size, so i’ll wait and see how he looks in that regard by the end of the year.
all in all, you’ve got bargnani way too high, monta probably a bit too low and a strange defensive vibe about your comments here. i’m honestly about confused about your tone on your comments thus far.

The justification for Monta being so low is pretty weak. He has been a model citizen since Jack left.
The scale is obviously tilted towards big men, which is fair.
Sittin in my scraper watchin Oakland goin wild, ta-dow!

He hasn't been a model citizen
Are we talking about the same guy? Ellis came out and said he’s carrying the Warriors defensively and he won’t do anything extra to help the team. How is that being a model citizen?
He’s playing as hard as he is right now because he wants to get the hell out of Oakland. He’s playing for a trade. That’s cool with me. I’m glad he’s doing well. But he’s def. not a model citizen in terms of being a good teammate.

Make the case for Monta vs. Rondo, Jennings and Rose
I watch those players on a regular basis. What makes Ellis better than those guys?

monta ellis is better than brandon jennings...
jennings: 34.2min 22.3ppg 4.1reb 5.5ast 1.2stl 3.3to .433fg% .768ft% .486 3pt%
m.ellis : 39.5min 24.4ppg 4.5rpg 5.3ast 2.6stl 4.0to .473fg% .784ft% .400 3pt%
ellis is the better more efficient scorer by a decent margin. this is the most obvious difference between the two players. jennings has the better a/to ratio, but at the same time ellis takes more possessions away from the opposite team than jennings, with his steals total.
on top of that while ellis is improving greatly over his slow start. jennings is falling off rapidly. there’s not much between them right now…but monta has the upper edge. i would also take monta’s d right now over jennings…monta has shown he can play good d against the likes of roy, granger and even kobe…to my knowledge jennings hasn’t shown anything at all on the defensive side of the court. correct me if im wrong…
and derek rose..? could you explain to us how on earth derek rose is anywhere near monta ellis…i mean derek rose had a good rookie season, nothing spectacular but the hype behind him is ridiculous. he’s had one good playoff game and all of a sudden he’s a superstar…umm no?

Actually...
Derrick Rose had three great games in the playoffs. Games 1, 4 and 6 against the Celtics (and against Rajon Rondo, arguably the best defensive PG in the league). Not coincidentally, the Bulls won all three of those games. Did you watch that series? If you did, you know how good Rose is when healthy.

ummm...it doesn't take a genius to recognize that
that wasn’t at all the point of my post, you can nitpick all you want…but 3 games does not make derek rose a better player than ellis…
monta is a better scorer, a better rebounder, and now a better defender. rose is a slightly better facilitator…
but sure, derek rose is a better player, because? just because…

dude...r u serious?
just because jennings had one good night, and a couple of others……there is no way you can say that jennings is better than monta….plus he’s only played what like 17 or so games….can you please tell me his stats from his last couple of games…..thank you

wait......
can you make a poll saying….."who would you rather have on your team?…….monta ellis or brandon jennings?…..and i wud love to see who gets more votes…..

on GSoM? monta. throughout the league? i’d bet jennings. justified or no, people really think he’s going to be a superstar.

At worst Monta should be at #9!
Guys he is better than right now without a doubt: Oden, Westbrook, Evans, Deng, Noah, Aldridge, Jefferso, Gordon, Horford, Rose, Barganani, Lopez, Rondo. Look at all of these guys and what do they all have in common besides maybe a couple? They are all players who are not the go to guys on their teams. They have guys on their teams that make them better. Monta is better than all of them because he knows how to get his own shot and be the go to guy.

Oden, Westbrook, Evans, Aldridge, Horford, Rondo, Deng, Noah, Gordon
Are all crucial players on teams better than the Warriors. And, with the exception of maybe Aldridge, they’re all better defenders than Ellis.

I wouldn't say that anymore
He even held Granger tonight. He’s been playing great D. He even slowed kobe down and frustrated him.

so the fact that they're on a better team makes them better individual players?
put monta ellis in gordon’s place, and the clippers get significantly worse? how about the kings with evans or the thunder with westbrook?
i doubt it.
and since when was westbrook, or gordon known for their defense?
i don’t think they’re any better at defending than monta is

I’m puzzled as to why Aldridge and Bargnani are even in the Top 15. Both rely too much on their perimeter jump shots, knocking their FG% well below average for big men and putting them out of position for rebounds. Their defense also leaves a lot to be desired. Are they talented scorers? Yes, but the a player’s worth should not be based entirely on the typical PPG measure.

i suppose thats true. I’d rather have lopez cause of injury

That's a legitimate point
Bynum has had a number of serious injuries. Right now he’s playing better than Brook though.
