Time to get someone to listen (ala Cleveland Browns)
If you don't wanna read all my opinions and just hear my idea just read the last 2 paragraphs.
I have been a Warriors season ticket holder since 1999 and have obviously seen many more terrible teams than good ones. I still go out support the team, support the players. However at what point should the fans take a stand to let management and coaches know that we demand better?
We are constantly touted as the "best-fans" in the NBA. But I'm starting to think we're the most willing to deal with lack of commitment and ineptitude.
After being at the last 2 home games and watching the Phoenix game on TV, I've come to a realization that the coaches and managment had to know before the seaon started. We are not a good team. We have many talented players, as well as good one on one offensive guys (Magette for example) but we are not a good team.
I would imagine that under the best set of circumstances we would win maybe 30 games this year but it is more likely that we end up somewhere around 25. I understand Nellie only needs 23 more wins to take over the all time lead, but what is the cost of his quest?
I sit there an watch him trot out Mikki Moore, a nice backup to a backup, Stephen Jackson (yes probably our best all around player, but he doesn't want to be here), Corey Magette (great scorer, no defense or passing at all), etc. In the mean time Anthony Randloph sits and molds on the bench.
If we are building for the future, then let the young guys play. Let me see a losing lineup of Curry, Randolph, Beidres. Get Morrow more minutes and fill in the blank with whomever you want. But don't keep putting out your "best lineup" for a team that is going no where but on vacation at the end of the regular season. Find someone to take Jackson and/or Magette, get a serviceable Power Forward. Let the young guys be young guys, if they make a mistake or do something wrong let them play through it.
At least I could stomach a bad team if I got to see glimpses of what the future might hold. But all I see right now is Nelson turning Randolph into another Chris Webber situation. The only difference is that Randolph has a better support system that won't let him act a fool.
At any rate, my idea is similar to that of what some fans in Cleveland proposed to get managements attention. On Wednesday December 16th we play the San Antonio Spurs on ESPN. I'd stongly urge that we start now and get as many people involved as possible, as well as get some media attention, and stage a 1st quarter boycott. That means no one show up til the end of the first quarter, let the stands be empty for the begining of that nationally televised game. It worked for Cleveland, it got the owner to talk and the management to let people know what there plan was and if there was even one.
So that's my idea, anyone with me?

FAIL
I thought about writing a more detailed response, but I decided not to bother editing it. FAIL, FAIL, FAIL. The Warriors are not the Browns. Our ownership might suck, but the team does not. Try to have just a little patience.

Be Patient?
I’ll tell you what, explain to me what I am being patient for. I’ve been patient for 10 years and in that time have watched management systematically dismantle team after team, including the one that took us to the playoffs the only time in 15 yrs.
I thin that we as a fan base have been more than patient. I aslo have to strongly disagree with you, we are not a good team. With our current roster and coaching we are not going to be a good team. I’ve watched enough basketball and seen the Warriors for enough years to know, unless we somehow pull of the kind of deal that got us Baron Davis, we will be a bad team this year. Again, a collection of talent players, but a bad team!
We are a young team that has no identity, but lots of talent
I don’t buy, for one second, that giving up on the team is the right answer. We were injured as heck last year, our leader stabbed us in the back as soon as the clock struck midnight and left the FO holding the bag (seriously, what legitimate move would you have made in the offseason after BD left? Sign Brand? Sign Arenas? Sign Iggy, Smith, or any of the other restricted FAs that were going to be matched anways? We were screwed once BD left, then Monta got injured, and everybody else got banged up throughout the season). Last year was fluky, we didn’t have a single half decent PG on the roster and guys were asked to plug too many holes. This year, we’ve lost to two quality teams and beaten one bad team.
Try to have maybe 10 more games of patience before throwing this season down the drain, will you? When has being impatient and boycotting or whatever ever been good for a fanbase? The only thing this will get you is a POd owner who might sell the team… to somebody who may or may not want to keep the team in your neighborhood.
All I hear is whining.

I've heard this all before
Do you really believe that we have a team that can make the playoffs? Honestly? My point, if you read it, was to get management to understand that we are not, as a fan base, going to continue to accept the product they continue to but on the floor.
I said we have many talented players, but I’m also well aware there is about a 2% changce this team could make the playoffs. I say 2% only because until you’re actually eliminated you’re technically still in and I don’t wanna get the you can’t write them off 3 games in argument.
Tell me how you possible think this team as constructed in the west can make the playoffs? Which team do you think we are going to be able to take a spot from?
All you hear is whining? I didn’t whine once, it’s called making an objection to the product that I pay to see. How many games a year do you pay to watch? Yes that does give me a right to voice a discenting opinion if I so choose.
Bottom line is we have a lot of good complimentary players that would excel in a situation where they did not have to be “the man”. We do not have a leader, or a true “star” player. As a matter of fact tell me which player on our roster is good enough to be an all-star right now? Ellis is very good, Curry looks good, Jackson is good, but name one guy on our team you’d build a team around?
My point, if you read it, was to get management to understand that we are not, as a fan base, going to continue to accept the product they continue to but on the floor.
And if their answer is, “Well, fine, I’ll take my team to Vegas!” Are you going to like it? What do you expect from them? Do you think they’re not trying to put a good team out there? If you want to get something done, pass out placards that’ll spell out “Fire Rowell” instead.
Tell me how you possible think this team as constructed in the west can make the playoffs?
We’ll see what kind of team we have. Right now, there’s no identity, no real “go to” guy. Monta took a step towards being that guy last night, and Morrow is definitely a guy who can give us a score when needed. I expect to see Randolph settle down (like he did last year) and perform a bit more like the guy he was in preseason/summer league as opposed to the puppy we saw last night going a million miles an hour trying to do everything all at once.
Bottom line is we have a lot of good complimentary players that would excel in a situation where they did not have to be "the man". We do not have a leader, or a true "star" player.
I don’t disagree with this. However, I also don’t see how complaining to the management is going to somehow help them acquire a true “star” player. True stars don’t fall from trees, we’ve been unlucky in the lotto for 15 years running (Top 3 twice despite regularly being in the top 10… and those were two down years). Not acquiring a “true star” is not management’s fault. It’s luck both with drafting and with the lotto balls. Signing Jax to an extension and trading Harrington for Crawfor- were stupid (though they counteracted the Crawfor- trade by getting expirings for him this past offseason). The JRich, Murphy, Foyle, and Dunleavy extensions were dumb. If you were advocating a walk out in that era, I’d probably have been with you. We lost Gilbert through no fault of theirs, and the NBA even created a rule specifically to prevent something like that happening again.
As a matter of fact tell me which player on our roster is good enough to be an all-star right now?
I understand that you’ve been waiting 10 years, but Monta, Curry, Randolph, etc. have not. Don’t push undue expectations on them. If Monta produces like last night regularly, he’ll certainly be in the all star discussion. Last year he was injured and rusty when he came back, there’s every reason to expect him to be significantly better than last year and no reason not to believe he’ll be better than he was the year before (2 years is a lot of learning for a 23 year old). Curry has a decent chance to become ROY, and he’ll stay in the discussion all year. Besides, the fan voted awards are all BS anyways. Barring an injury, Morrow will be invited to the 3 point shoot out.
I’ll take my chances that one of Monta, Curry, Randolph, or Morrow will be a guy to build around.

Moving the team
First off, no one is gonna move the team, there are way too many other teams in the league that can’t fill the stands at all. This is way too big a market and way too many people to move a team away. If that is your SCARE tactic to try to get me to stop critizining the organization it’s not gonna work.
I hope that they do sell the team, to someone who at least seems to like basketball. There is no way Cohen can possible care and let stuff like this happen. I mean look at the owners around the league, guys like Cuban and Buss and the like. They refuse to accept mediocrity or failure and when it happens it’s short lived. The Mavericks were terrible when Cuban stepped in. Ownership like ours, the Clippers, Memphis/Vancouver allow and accept failure and don’t hold personel accountable.
Were people still going to Sonics games? Up until the team was already out the door they were.
Going to games doesn’t matter. All that matters is that the league wants (or wanted) a team in Vegas and that it probably doesn’t want to create another expansion team. I think everyone hopes they sell. Just carry “Fire Cohan” signs and boo him when you see him or something. You should still support the players.
Guys like Buss draft players like Kobe and trade for players like Shaq & Gasol (two of the most lopsided trades in the last decade). Cuban drafted Dirk and spends money out the wazoo… and what’s he got to show for it? Zero championships, one trip to the finals, and he’ll have to rebuild his team pretty soon. Was he making money on the team? In 2007, player expenses were nearly twice as much as ticket revenue, and he had an operating loss of $24M. It’s just some rich guy’s play toy, that he’s paying for. So, basically, you’re asking some rich guy to buy you a championship (or at least a few playoff victories).
If only we could get Bosh for Speedy, Acie, Devan George, and Wright plus two #1 draft picks (and Pau is better than Bosh)…

You don’t actually buy this “Just wait for the Great Story to unfold” that Larry Riley has been pushing to the media, do you?
We Believe was a flash in the pan. The Warriors didn’t even make a trade to improve the skill on the court or even the chemistry. Instead they are busy pimping Jackson and Maggette or playing mind games with Randolph by saying he is the backup center and then putting Mikki Frickin’ Moore in the game. What are you waiting for again?
Chris Cohan and Robert Rowell? Oh no hide the children!

Who’re they supposed to trade, and what are they supposed to get back? You want to get Eddy Curry for Jax?
I’m waiting for this team to show us what it is. Right now, they’ve lost to two teams that look pretty good and beaten one team that looks pretty bad… and they’re doing it with lots of young guys playing pivotal roles.

Try to have just a little patience
I’m sorry I lol’d very very hard. Warriors fans are truly the Cubs fans of basketball. After all these years of FAIL by the Warriors management you would presume to say FAIL to anyone who has a suggestion to do something about it? Shame!
If Bochy coached the Warriors Bengie Molina would start every game at PG.

Patience with this year's Warriors team
They’re young, have no identity, but have lots of talent. Can we please wait till they’re 5-15 to start talking about this? They’re 1-2 with the losses coming against pretty good teams. Give them a few games before claiming that the sky is falling.

Did anyone hear Bill Simmons on KNBR this morning?
He spent a good portion of time saying warriors do have best fans in NBA, and the vibe/atmosphere at oracle is unique in entire nba.
It was nice to hear from a National guy who has probably been to most arenas…
The arena was maybe 4/5 full last night. Jackson lives and dies by the shot. He actually acknowledged the people booing him too.
Chris Cohan and Robert Rowell? Oh no hide the children!

Not only do we suck
But we are not as much fun to watch anymore either. The We Believe era was the most entertaining Warriors team I can remember watching, and we dont have even a sliver of that left.
I support the 1st quarter boycott, but I will not be buying tickets to any games this year. I cannot imagine spending my money on a franchise that sucks this hard on purpose
FYI It's not just me for the record
Here was a couple of snipets from John Hollinger ESPN’s basketball guy:
Nick (Toronto)
John, what is going on in Golden State?? Is there any chance management steps in and gets rid of Nelson so that the young bigs have a chance to develop?
John Hollinger (12:04 PM)
Unfortunately, “management” and “nelson” are largely the same thing these days. Even though Nelly is blatantly mailing it in while he cashes in the remainder of his extension before returning to Maui for more mai tais, Golden State’s invisible ownership seems utterly oblivious. Best case scenario is that they sell the team and clean house.
Ltnt Simmons (Afghanistan)
Has Don Nelson learned NOTHING from the 94’ CWebb situation? WHy is he benching Anthoyn Randolph and forcing him to play center?
John Hollinger (12:35 PM)
This is different from the CWebb deal because Randolph doesn’t have anywhere near the same leverage. So it won’t destroy the season. Instead, the Warriors figured out other ways to accomplish that.
All this bashing of Nellie on Randolph...
Yet, Randolph is shooting 36%, turning the ball over once every 10 minutes, and committing a foul once every 7 minutes. Sure, his rebounding and scoring numbers are pretty good, but if you’re fouling every 7 minutes, you’re fouling out pretty often and putting the other team at the line A LOT. He’s trying to do too much right now, just like he did at the beginning of last season. Once he gets his act in gear and settles down, he’ll get more PT. It’s not rocket science.
Plus, as of last Thursday (after the first two games), Randolph himself admitted that his back was only 90%. This comment was made 18 days AFTER the injury was sustained. Back injuries are notorious for cropping back up, so the team should be rightfully patient with it.

Still too early???
Have you finally seen what it took me 1 1/2 games to see? We are not a good team. Again some very good and very young players, but not a good team.
Just to clear the record I never once I said I didn’t support the player, just that I disagreed and disliked managements strategy.
