Well the video got edited or something cause the ‘racial slur’ isn’t there anymore.
anyway, I don’t see what the big deal with calling Yi a “Chinaman” is. I’m Asian and I wouldn’t take offense to that. it’s like calling Pietrus a Frenchman or Gasol a Spaniard.

Yeah, I doubt he meant any offense. Just an honest mistake, I’m sure.

Yeah
It’s not like Kamla made fun of Yi’s eyes or something.

Just like you don't call a black guy a negro
You don’t call a Chinese person Chinaman.

read the wiki entry.
But yea Rick Kamela probably didn’t know. Not much people do.

Hmmm.....
I don’t think it’s the same as calling a black guy a negro, maybe like calling him a nigeriaman or sudanman, etc…. which I don’t think is offending

It's about the history attached to a certain word.
Negro is very outdated and has carried along with it in the past a negative connotation. Same thing as calling Asians “Orientals”—another no-no. It may not sound ‘racist’ but definitely not a word you throw out there on a regular basis.

I told Randolph that Bill Russell would tell him to keep that ball in play and start the break.

Negro - spanish for "black"
Oriental – “Eastern”
Words only become offensive if they’re continually used in a derogatory manner. I understand both sides. People need to meet in the middle. Everybody needs to realize that everybody else is ignorant of them, their culture, etc. Likewise everybody needs to learn that they’re ignorant of everybody else, their culture, etc. Once we all admit our own ignorance, we can accept each other and learn from each other. Until then, we’ll just be mired in this victim culture we live in. But I’ll take the victim culture over the segregated and racist culture.

The issue is the history, of course. Persianman has no history behind it like “Chinaman.” My issue is overreacting, when people didn’t mean any harm. It’s always good to be aware that some words are rude, due to their connotations.

Absolutely right
“Chinaman” has a history of being used as an insult, while Persianman does not. Had he said “Chinese player” there wouldn’t even be a ripple.

“Chinaman” is obviously not the preferred nomenclature (even for someone who may have peed on your rug that really tied the room together). But I certainly wouldn’t call it a “racist slur.”
Seems like a measure of chill is in order here.
There will be no extra point!

Nice reference
Dude. If you’d have finished with “The dudes need to abide,” it really would have tied the comment together.

Funny some guy who calls himself “Wizzle” has the purity of soul to call for the firing of someone else over questionable use of language. I agree that this is way overblown. Considering that a blockbuster kids movie was made recently just to highlight a song containing the line “funky chinaman”, it would be the height of hypocrisy for Kamala to be canned.
If Bochy coached the Warriors Bengie Molina would start every game at PG.

Not Surprised
I caught some NBA TV the other night upon discovering it was available on my satellite service this year, and was pretty excited to find it, as I thought MLB Network to be excellent in its maiden season this past summer.
Perhaps I caught it on a bad night, because boy was it bad. No comparison to MLB and NFL networks. Whatever NBA TV studio show I was watching with Eric Snow and Dennis Scott, along with the host (whose name I didn’t catch), was amateur hour. The lighting, the set, the talent…all D-League. Snow at least seemed to be trying to say something that contained a modicum of basketball intelligence (but to little avail), while Scott sat at the end of the table like he was at the end of a bar at a Buffalo Wild Wings, spouting random insults about players appearing in highlights and giggling like a nervous middle schooler. I guess he’s trying to be Barkley-like.
I’ll keep watching for the highlights and live look-ins, but everything else about it is bad television.

oh
you got the bad night thats why when its snow and the guy you didnt know andre aldridge its pretty boring. when its kamla and steve smith its good, and when weber or kenny smith are in its good too. i got mad last year they had gary payton with chris weber and ahmad rashad and they were really good but they took them out for ernie johnson weber and kevin mchale. but yeah you just got it on a bad time.
So I don't have a signature well these words would do! Who knew that upgrades can have downgrades too!

Follow Up
You’re right; I tuned in again a day later and a bit earlier in the evening and saw some real pros in action, Cheryl Miller among them.
