Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Another front office mistake...

Another one bites the dust...

Thanks to our beloved front office we've yet again blew up our team. This seasons future looks like a complete bust already after only the 1st quarter and it's of course all due to the Golden State Warriors lovely front office. We are now looking to trade the "untouchables" when we could have traded them for a legitimate superstar (Amare).

Imagine if we actually went through with the trade...

Monta

Jackson

Buike

Wright

Amare

OMG... FML!!!! I don't think Buike or Wright would've been injured because duh the outcome of the game would be different unless it's like Final Destination and the future is already written... but anyways... Yeah, really though? The front office is pretty darn stupid if they end up trading any of our so called "Untouchables" because they'll just be repeating the same thing they've done for the past 14 or something years. Plain stupid if they end up trading any of the pieces that could have been dealt for Amare.

One thing is for sure, and that thing is one of the skinny power forwards has got to go. For me? I would let Randolph go. From what I've seen, I think Brandon Wright is going to be the type of PF that will give you everything that is labeled of him every single night (consistency; think Chris Bosh). Anthony Randolph will be the type that will give you what you want to see (think Josh Smith).

Brandon Wright has shown excellence mostly every game he's started from what I remember of last season. He was showing that sweet lil baby hook and mid range jumper that he was knocking down on a pretty good percentage oh and even threw down those tomahawks and windmill dunks. We know he can block shots and rebound if he puts his heart into it but we also know he needs to gain weight which can be done over time. Wright can be that low post threat we've always been looking for and he doesn't  force things even as a youngster..."Whacha know 'bout that baby hook foo?!"

Anthony Randolph CAN be a beast but at most times he looks like a 6th grader that just got into JV and thinks he's the best guy on the floor. He can be seen most of the time calling for the ball as he runs the floor or jumping at any sign of a shot attempt (offense or defense). He has a great FT stroke and can shoot the mid range but has yet to show any signs of consistency. He can also run the floor and handle the ball pretty well for his size and of course block and rebound shots if he puts good solid effort into it. But! To me, everything he does on the court looks like a desperate move to gain attention from the league. He just needs to let the game come to him...

So yeah, front office... why didn't you trade for Amare again?...you suck Cohan. Larry Ellison FTMFW.

Amare?

The superstar who plays no defense, can’t pass, can’t rebound, and relies on Steve Nash? No thanks.

Seriously, Amar’e is an idiot if he leaves the Suns. Half of his field goals are Nash setting him up for dunks.

I feel like he will leave though

He will take a huge contract from the Knicks is my guess.

The problem with the starting line-up you gave is that we still lack players that can pass the ball without getting as many turnovers as assists.

by samuraaaaiiiiiii on Dec 15, 2009 11:55 PM PST reply actions

Ignoring the fact that the team you listed would still be the worst rebounding team in the NBA, commit the most TOVs and produce the fewest assists, it’s not even possible b/c Brandan Wright (along with Belinelli & Andris) was definitely included in the trade & Kelenna Azubuike was supposedly involved as well.

Monta, Jack, Maggette, Amare, Turiaf, CJ, Morrow, Randolph, Mikki, Claxton, Law, Pruitt? would have been the roster.

the real hurdle was always whether Amare would extend here b/c if he left after a year, you basically lost Andris, BW, Azubuike, Beli & Curry for nothing. knowing the W’s, that’s probably exactly what would have happened had the deal gone through. that’s just how things go here.

This logic is so laughable I stopped reading right there. Did I miss anything?

There will be no extra point!

You missed the part where we traded Maggette + Monta for Lebron and signed him to an extension, then used Amare as trade bait for Dwight Howard, and Andris for Chris Paul. The outcome of the game would have been different had we traded for Amare, duh. :)

yeah thats your problem

you need to lighten up… geez i guess only some people have a sense of humor

I said it was “laughable” — that was your intent, right? Lighten up, dude!

As dumb as this sounds....

I want to see how the warriors play once our centers return to action. It’s tough winning games when we don’t have the man power to stop people in the paint.

Once we have a full rotation, I think we will be better than we were in the first quarter of the season, that is if Nelson doesn’t coach the team into the ground…

by HireMeAsGM on Dec 16, 2009 8:54 AM PST reply actions

That's not dumb ...

… but it’s also not realistic to believe that we’re somehow a great team if we get those guys back.

Biedrins is a very valuable player. He’s worth a bunch of wins. But he’s not worth the 20+ wins he’d have to be worth to turn this team into a playoff team.

by Ronaldinho on Dec 16, 2009 9:19 AM PST up reply actions

Perhaps he doesn't mean turn us into a playoff team

But rather just turn us into a team that we can be happy to call our Warriors and fans will start thinking in terms of building on the players we have instead of wanting to revamp the team entirely.

by GoldenStateGuerrero on Dec 16, 2009 9:31 AM PST up reply actions

+1

Yeah I meant that I know we are not going to be a playoff team this year, but we won’t get a full understanding of our team’s capabilities until those guys come back..

I wouldn’t want a complete overhaul of the roster based on a quarter of the season where our key role players have been out due to injuries…. (Biedrins, Turiaf)

Also Buike is out for the season and Wright has not played a minute this season…. would love to see those come back strong instead of dumping them because we overact to our current situation….

Just my thoughts..

Agreed

We don’t even have a chance to compete until we get some bodies healthy. There are so few guys healthy that you have to consider fatigue a factor in why the Warriors have large stretches of time where they just settle for jumpers and can’t get anything going. At least thats what helps me sleep at night.

by Pearlsofwisdom on Dec 16, 2009 10:34 AM PST up reply actions

technically, outside of Monta (2nd to Gerald Wallace), no one on this team is in the top 67 players among minutes (Morrow is in 68th w/ 32 min per game). the fatigue factor is probably stretching it.

by homer simpson on Dec 16, 2009 11:35 AM PST up reply actions

well....

The whole Amare not rebounding well thing wouldn’t both me if we played an Amare/Randolph front court. Randolph can more or less ‘clean up’ the boards. Amare rebounds better than all the guys we trot out at 4 (maggette, buike, vladdy).

There is a legitimate point on lacking a passer. but I feel if we made the move, we could get someone. Perhaps beg maggette for any expirings possible to send to chicago for hinrich. Or even lower marquee moves. Point being w/ Amare, monta (and sadly Jack) we would be able to find a guy to fill that passing void.

by tafkasam on Dec 16, 2009 10:03 AM PST reply actions

That’s a big ‘if’. Coaches play players they trust to follow the gameplan and who are where they are supposed to be. AR obviously doesn’t have Smart’s or Nellie’s trust.

But like I said above, the real hurdle was always whether Amare would resign here or not.

B/c losing a proven double-double guy in AB, a proven rotation player in KA along with a 21 (Curry) & a 22 (BW) yr old prospect for an Amare rental would leave the W’s with the long term deals of Monta, Jack, Maggette along with Turiaf & Randolph. Mikki, Claxton & Law as FA. CJ & Morrow as RFA and about as much cap room as when Baron left (rough guess is somewhere around 16 mill minus (their 2010 1st round pick’s salary? &) the cap hold of Morrow & CJ.

WS wise even with Amare, you’re looking at an estimated (based on history) 31 to 44 wins depending on how good Amare & Monta play. So even at their best, the statistics put them at a 9-10 seed in the current west. And based on how they’ve played so far this yr, their WS (assuming the current pace) would put the team around 30 wins (this is b/c, unbelievably, Monta’s WS is worse than Curry’s).

Hinrich’s so bad these days that getting him might have doomed the dubs for the next 3 yrs. after peaking in 06-07, he’s steadily been getting worse. His asst-tov ratio gets worse every year as does his rebounding rate and he’s shooting 34%, 29% & 68% from the stripe this yr.

by homer simpson on Dec 16, 2009 11:19 AM PST up reply actions

the point i was trying to make was

our team wouldn’t have been the laughing stock of the NBA as it currently is right now.

by bojangles408 on Dec 16, 2009 11:44 AM PST reply actions

I think the Nets have that honor, no?

The Ws wouldn’t be nearly as sad as they look right now if we had even two of Biedrins, Wright, Turiaf and Kelenna. I think the Kelenna injury was a much bigger blow than people recognize: he was our second best perimeter shooter (more daylight for Monta, Morrow, and Curry), second best slasher (more breathers for Monta), and best perimeter defender. In a small sample size, he also seemed before the injury to have stepped up his game a notch — possibly rebounding well enough to be a legit 30-35 minute starting small forward. Plus, like Biedrins and Turiaf, he provided a maturity and a positive energy that seems to be lacking right now.

Yeah, the injuries don’t affect the Cohan/Rowell/Nelson circus at the top, but I find it highly unlikely that without the injuries the team would be anywhere close to as “laughable” as it is now. If you want to argue that trading for Amare would have forestalled the injuries … well, more power to you.

There will be no extra point!

I was mildly against a Stoudemire trade as rumored, then marginally for it. My worry was that he wasn’t going to return to pre-Shaq form, and he hasn’t. He’s still an efficient scorer, but he isn’t scoring as much, and the rebounding has not returned, despite now being paried in the front court with some rather poor rebounders. The trends aren’t good, certainly not for the sort of money he’ll demand. He depends on explosiveness and that won’t improve. If he only maintains, he’s not worth the sort of max money he’ll want to stick around.
