Throwin Randolph Under the Bus
This is my first post. Love the site!! It's good to see that I'm not the only one who cares more than he should about this troubled franchise of ours. I guess we are all masochist on some level. I know myself I have been following since the first run of Nellie ball, been hooked ever since Timmy's killer crossover, and manute's slingshot bombs from the behind the arc.
But enough reminiscing, I wanted to get some feedback on a Randolph trade idea, of course it always boils down to trade ideas...I like randolph a lot as a player, but I wouldn't be opposed to see him go if we somehow miraculously got better in the end.
I wouldn't throw up in my mouth if we sent:
Maggette/Randolph for Boozer/Knicks 1st round Pick ( that the Jazz hold)
My logic is this, Utah needs to get something of value for Boozer, and the promise of Randolph and the horrible "old man game" of maggette could be enticing. Randolph/Maggette are known commodities that would be a good get for an expiring Boozer. Utah unlike us are good team with some holes to fill, and they clearly have a redundancy at the 4 position, and a weakness at the 3. ( They did try to sign Maggette in '03 when he was a restricted free agent, for about $42 mil, so maybe some interest is still there)
On our side we would get out from under maggette's money, and gives us a shot to sign boozer, but compensates us by getting us a possible high lottery pick for losing Randolph if/when boozer walks. I assume no one would mind losing maggette since most fan comments I see about him are pretty negative at best. I know some will say "boozer will never sign here", but the one thing we know about carlos "the bidness man" boozer is that he is a money first guy, and we would be able to pay him the most money. ( i think) Plus it is not insane to think that with him, and the remaining pieces we could be a pretty good team. And if the boozer walks we got cap room, two picks potential high picks next year, and good old Brandan still at the 4, assuming they can keep him on the court.
And on losing Randolph, that what the draft pick is for. The fact is the guy is a project, a talented project who shows flashes of great play, and prolly won't be ready for at least 2-3yrs. But I'm inclined to sell high than low, and we have to admit that the W's don't seem to have the capability to mold this kid, and his stock has only gone down since last year. Nelson and Randolph are a bad mix. And we know Nellie ain't going anywhere, and we know Coheezy loves paper over championships. So he'll give the fans some late season excitement, and dupe em into re uppin those season tickets.
So as much as i like randolph, if he's gotta go, which I don't wanna see, I would hope we would at least get this much.
Rake me over the coals, shoot holes in my wack logic, just throwing something out here.

I doubt Utah would include that pick.
Warriors, Stupidest franchise in the league.
I told Randolph that Bill Russell would tell him to keep that ball in play and start the break.
RANDOLPH: "I know. But sometimes, you gotta let ‘em know."

Depends. If the Knicks keep winning, that pick starts to look more mediocre. I haven’t heard much about the potential of this year’s draft picks outside of Wall.

There are some other solid prospects, but
they aren’t John freaking Wall.

well true
I feel you’d rather have bosh, as he is younger and more productive, but I think he would be even more unlikey to sign here than boozer, plus boozer is a better post player. Bosh has a nice all around game, but we need some beef up front and guy to kick to down low when scoring gets rough. Plus I doubt if Toronto wants maggette, to get bosh we’d have to substitute biedrins at least.
Even if we did Manage to get Boozer
Nellie would want him as our 5 and we have Biedrins, plus Boozer is injury prone and would break down FAST in our system.
god forbid we adjust our system to accomodate an all star pf
f that, let’s play CJ there
Solid Logic
though i think we’d have to add another player to make the 1st rounder viable – like CJ or Buike.
By the way – am i the only one who’s noticed this teams decline since Buike’s injury. I think Buike was the ROCK of this team. SOLID night in/night out and he’s a strong rebounder.
We miss Buike
Also everyone forgets about Brandan Wright.
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"
am i the only one who’s noticed this teams decline since Buike’s injury the Webber trade

Back to the trade idea, I would probably say no to a Randolph for Knicks unprotected first rounder trade, but we get Boozer’s expiring and bird rights and they take Maggette? Thats a trade we have to do.

+1 on CJ
we need to start shopping him as he will NOT resign and based on his current form he’s a definite asset to a playoff bound team.
What makes you think a playoff team wants CJ? He’s a 6’2 SG (he’s not really 6’2, is he?) that plays terrible D and struggles to create his own shot effectively….

orlando was dying for him (and i can see why)
he’s a VERY good shooter .614 TS% this year… .567 career, good 3pt shooter, gets a fair amount of steals.
Just saying towards the deadline we could possibly package him + maybe raja to a team looking for something for a playoff run? What about someone like charlotte, milwaukee or OKC who r probably desperate to make playoffs or someone like utah looking for added bench presense or an injury riddled team like portland
I’m definitely up for trading him, I just don’t think we’ll get much back. I also think Orlando’s interest was overblown – I don’t believe there was any truth to their 1st round offer (though their 1st round pick isn’t worth a whole lot)….

I'm still upset we didn't take the 1st if it was offered
We could have found a 3rd PG/SG type player on same contract.
List of players who could have helped us drafted after that pick: Dante cunningham, Dejaun blair, Jonas Jerebko, sam young, chase budinger, marcus thorton, plus some interesting guys still international
As I said, I don’t really believe it was on the table, but if it was, I also think we should have taken that offer…

More likely
AR to Houston for Scola or
AR and Mags for TMac
Either way – I’d rather see AR stay with dubs and a coach who appreciates his talent and potential
Unfortunatley....
We can’t trade coaches and for some reason, Nelson has his hooks in on the FO and they won’t fire him.
i dont think rockets would want maggette..
i think they rather hold onto tmac for his 23 millon coming off the books this year.
maybe if we do claxton, maggette, randolph, raja bell an a first rounder.
No don't trade AR
I just got the SF Warriors Randolph Jersey. I couldn’t stand for it to be obsolete already! Truthfully though, I think Randolph will be a consistently good player one day, its just going to take time. I don’t see what all the rush is. He still is one of the youngest players in the league, and seeing as he has grown quite a bit from last year, theres no reason to be believe he can’t mature more and refine his game. Considering how long the Warriors have sucked, whats one more year? Patience will pay off with this kid if we just give him a chance
I like it. There is not much this team can do with what we have anyway. I would not be apposed to stocking up on picks and starting from scratch.
I can see all the eyes rolling right now over that but really, where are we going with what we have and landing a legit star is a remote possibility as best.

Trading Randolph
makes no sense. Even if you’re totally rebuilding why trade a 20 year old who is your best prospect. Bc he hasn’t developed as fast as some optomists hoped he would? All the hype about this being Randolph’s team at the start of the season was so predictably misguided. Even if he was playing great it wouldn’t make that much difference in the standings this year with all the injuries etc. If he was as “disappointing” as some think he is and the team was contending that might be a different question.
Boozer’s an injury prone loser who won’t get us into the playoffs this year. Next year if not the year after Randolph will probably surpass Boozer anyway and the Ws will look like idiots again.
Monta and Randolph are really the only studs on this roster and the only players worth watching on the team right now. Trade either of them and we sink even deeper into dispair. (yes it is possible).
Hate to burst all the trade gurr's bubbles....
But remember, salaries have to match up, some of the deals thrown out there are just ludicrous.
I don't think we should trade Randolph...but
my proposed trade was in the vain of “if we have to this is what I would hope we would get”
Maggette/Randolph for Boozer/Knicks 1st currently (8-18) 5-5 L10
To those that say Carlos Boozer is trash, he sure killed us in those “We Believe” playoffs. And yeah he’s had some injuries but so did Baron, and he bought us some great moments, and most would take him back in a heartbeat including myself.
Also, some of you are sooooo sure AR will be this super stud player, but his game needs some help. The fadeways, contested 19ft jumpers, and consistent offensive fouls where he just runs over the defender are at least worrisome. Some of you guys I feel are blowing up his potential because you/we want a quick fix outta this mess, chances our he may not be our savior.
Plus if you listen to his agent it doesn’t sound like he wants to be here, and if he doesn’t want to be here what’s the chances of him taking advice from a coaching staff he doesn’t trust.
This is a good trade idea. I think Cohan would love it because we’d be shedding Maggette’s contract. I think Cohan would be happier with no assurance that Boozer would re-sign. Then, after all the top tier FA’s sign elsewhere, we can sign another Maggette in a panic move.

AR4 and Maggs for Bosh....
If he agrees to a contract extension.

Well, yeah. That’s a total no-brainer.
Curry
Monta
Azubuike
Bosh
Biedrins

Bench: Morrow, Turiaf, Wright, CJ, Hunter and a high first-round pick.
Other than the fact that that deal ain’t happening, what’s not to like?
There will be no extra point!

I just don’t really want Boozer on my team for a few reasons. One, he doesn’t play defense. He’s a good offensive player, no denying that, but that overrates him since he’s pretty poor defensively. Two, he went to Duke. Can’t stand Duke. Hated Boozer back when he was playing next to Battier and Dunleavy. Three, Boozer is a scumbag. Ask Cavs management about that.
So yeah, given that I don’t want Boozer…I don’t want to give up a promising young player like Randolph for one year of rent-a-Boozer.
rent-a-boozer
Isn’t that what we did when we extended Nellie?
There will be no extra point!

Yep, and that was one too many rent-a-boozer’s.
by Missing Barry on Dec 17, 2009 7:37 AM PST up reply actions
basically someone REALLY need to be sold on Randolph
to convince there management to eat maggette
The problem is Randolph would have to prove this year that he is going to be better in the future than any draft pick.
So far, Randolph has not shown that, just that he has potential, which is what th draft is full of.
What are the odds of this team getting healthy enough for Randolph to play in his comfort zone plus Nellie actually utilizing Randolph in the manner that best suits HIM, not Nellie’s interests? (close to zero)
