The difference between the WE BELIEVE team and our team now....
The difference is that they simply had better, more polished players. You look at the team now... There is no way you should have to fill a roster with three undrafted players. No offense to CJ, Kelenna, and Morrow but they just are not polished NBA players. Also, there is no form of experienced leadership that players like Baron and Jason Richardson brought to the team. They knew how to play a crazy style of basketball, but within control.
Also, unlike this team, the WE BELIEVE team had a STRENGTH and it was fast-paced scoring. This was because we had quick players at their positions, not just smaller guys who played a position up. Our versatile players such as Al Harrington and Matt Barnes, could actually defend guys stronger than them and outsmart them on the offensive end. Frankly, Corey Maggette does not have the skill set to play power forward. He is a set small forward as he prefers to drive from the top of the key, rather than posting up in the paint and out-muscling guys bigger than him.
Plus, the WE BELIEVE team was flowing with experience with a good amount of talent. They knew how to pull out close games, and how to get defensive stops in important situations. This team now has obviously misunderstood the "fast-paced scoring" concept as they tend to make many mistakes and totally disregard defense. Part of this reason is coaching. Don Nelson is not a "young player" coach. By this I mean, with young players with potential, they need more instruction and boundaries than an older and more experienced player does. Players such as Anthony Randolph, and Stephen Curry frankly arent going to develop into prolific basketball players without the proper coaching to help them improve rather than run rampant. Anthony Randolph should not have to guard centers and half to consistently body up in the paint. He was drafted as a 3/4 thus excels at the 3/4 position. Same with Stephon Curry. He is a 2 guard. Stop trying to make him into a point guard. Why was he so astonishing at Davidson? Because he had plays run for him as a shooting guard, not a point guard.
Another significant difference between the two teams was the bench play. Back then, we had explosiveness off the bench such as Matt Barnes, Mickael Pietrus, and Monta Ellis. They brought intensity and live and fulfilled the depth needed. Now, look at us. We have third stringers, undrafted players, and D league players coming off the bench. That simply will not contribute to a winning cause. To me, bench players are suppose to keep the score around where it is when the starters came out. The WE BELIEVE bench successfully did this, our team now does not. Simple as that. When your bench is disfunctional, does not keep you in games, and brings no intensity and energy on defense, you will not be a thriving team.
One more thing. Our situation now is because of the front office. You might ask why? Well, because we traded Jason Richardson, a highly developed NBA player, for a player who played one year at North Carolina well. I mean, c'mon, Richardson is a solid basketball player. Why take a gamble right after your first playoff team in years??? And then the whole Al Harrington trade. If your gonna trade Al Harrington because he wants to leave, be my guest. But please, get a player that will contribute to our cause in future years to come. No... We get Jamal Crawford, who does absolutely nothing to help us except get us through a losing season with less embarrassment and no.... Don't resign big bench players like Pietrus and Barnes. I know the whole Baron thing was not our fault. He simply wanted to move on. But if Baron leaves, for God sakes get another veteran point guard. Many of you might be thinking Monta Ellis, but folks, he is a pure scoring 2 guard, not a ball-handling assist machine that runs a young and wild offense.
SO that leaves Stephen Jackson. It was a good idea to move him, i am not gonna lie. But who do we get in return, Bell and Radmanovic. Bell, the key component in the deal, was injured!!! Why trade for a player who needs surgery and will be out all year when he only has a one-year contract?! So we end up with Radmanovic, a poor rebounder for his height with no physical presence. Oh but he is labeled a shooter, nice!.... Nope cannot shoot at all. Actually, he is one of the worst efficient shooters in basketball. Hmmmm, a shooter who can't shoot, terrific!!
So now, we lost all of our starters from the WE BELIEVE, except for Biedrins, who now is injured. We totally depleted our bench, who played a big part in our success in 2007. And we lost our ability and experience.
So what are we now, one of the worst teams in the league that is NOT IMPROVING, NOT DEVELOPING and basically, has no light at the end of the tunnel in the future. Yes, grim you might say, but very very true.

So what are we now, one of the worst teams in the league
News flash! We’ve BEEN one of the worst teams in the league for years now…
WARRIORS BASKETBALL!!! Patiently waiting for a title...I may be waiting for a long time...
Thank you! What makes you guys think one upset and one winning season makes up for 14 years of sucking?
Sure the upset was nice but still…

one of the worst teams in the league that is NOT IMPROVING, NOT DEVELOPING and basically, has no light at the end of the tunnel in the future.
It seems to me we’re adding talent every year? Wright, then Randolph, then Curry. Turiaf. Morrow. It’s amazing what a stretch of losing, that’s likely caused completely by our injuries, does to people’s perceptions….
Let's hark back to the we Believe team AGAIN........
However……
here’s some stats for ya….
Season G GS MPG FG% 3p% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG TO PF PPG
08-09 54 54 38.6 0.406 0.338 0.889 0.4 2.9 3.3 4.4 0.9 0.2 2.26 1.46 19.7
05-06 54 48 36.5 0.389 0.315 0.675 0.8 3.5 4.4 8.9 1.6 0.3 2.94 3.06 17.9
06-07 63 62 35.3 0.439 0.304 0.745 0.8 3.6 4.4 8.1 2.1 0.5 3.06 2.87 20.1
The surprising thing……
the 05-06 stat line is Baron in his first year at GSW, the 06-07 his ‘We Believe’ year.
The 08-09 stat line is Jamal Crawford…..
Considering the absolute ripping he gets by some fans, I truly dont understand why he deserved some anger against him? He numbers really were not THAT different to Baron’s and considerably better than Baron’s first year in a GSW uniform.
Who knows what Jamal might have done this year having had a year of playing Nellie Ball under his belt…. I tell you this much…I’ll take Jamal Crawford over CJ watson any day of the week.
"Better a Has-been than a Never-was. But better a Never-was than a Never-tried-to-be"
What I don’t get is how the “We Believe” team made everyone forget just how bad Baron was in his first full year with the Warriors. He pulled a classic Baron – feuded with the coach (eventually running him out of town), showed up out of shape, didn’t give a crap, didn’t try on D, didn’t run the plays and jacked up 3’s with 16 seconds on the shot clock instead, got hurt….I hated Baron after that year. The following couple years were good, so that I’ll always remember Baron in a positive light….but man, he was horrible that first year and showed exactly why not committing to him long term was the right move.
As for Jamal – he’s obviously not close to Baron in terms of creating for others, the assists show that. He’s also a lesser rebounder. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say Baron 05-06 and Jamal last year were fairly comparable, but as I just alluded to…that Baron sucked. A lot. Jamal’s D is also a sore point for a lot of people….he was pretty bad in that regard.
I guess I’m one of those that rips Jamal – I don’t like his game, and I think he’s exactly the type of player that will be overvalued based on his scoring (even though he shoots poor percentages to get those points), when he doesn’t do a whole lot else. Myself and others probably take it to a much higher level than Jamal deserves, though, I can admit that. The guy was a professional throughout everything that happened. Can’t say anything bad about his character.

Er.
For one thing you’re making Jamal’s numbers look slightly better than they are by not standardizing the three lines to 36 minutes.
More importantly: 8.8 and 8.3 assists per 36 minutes is a quantum level of difference from 4.1. We’re talking elite-level PG assist totals versus … well, totals that don’t even really earn you the title “point guard.”
Notice also Baron’s 4.4 rebounds per 36 (quite good for a PG) v. Jamal’s 3.0 (quite crappy).
Or perhaps most importantly: the fact that Baron, when healthy and inspired, is capable of lockdown, physical, ballhawking D, where Crawford is, by general consensus, is one of the laziest, crappiest defenders in the league.
Even when Baron is missing his shots (which is like, all the time these days) he has a much, much more positive impact on a team’s than Jamal. The plus-minus numbers tend to bear this out, as does the fact that every team Jamal has ever played on has been terrible — at least up till this season when he settled into his role as designated gunner, the 5th or 6th most valuable player on the team.
Nothing personal, as Jamal did seem like a good guy. He was easy to like as a dude. By far the most likely explanation for any “ripping” fans gave him was that they saw that he wasn’t very good at basketball.
As for Jamal v. CJ … every day of the week you would be making a pretty huge mistake. CJ’s younger, much more productive on both ends of the court (and on the glass), and much, much cheaper (a million a year versus $9.4M, to be precise). There’s not a single area where Crawford is outperforming Watson this season, beyond his demonstrated superiority at jacking up bad shots.
There will be no extra point!

Difference
Simply put, we had better talent during the 2007 playoff run. Mickael Pietrus, Al Harrington, Jason Richardson and Matt Barnes aren’t around anymore.

Well, I think it’s more fair to say Baron* isn’t around anymore….
*We’re talking about the motivated Baron who plays D and only takes a few bad shots as opposed to a lot…

Baron stat of the day...
Games with the Clippers: 89
Games with the Clippers in which he has hit more than half his shots from the floor: 10
There will be no extra point!

ive watched him play
and plays well still. He is a star point guard still. The Clippers SUCK when he is not out there. They are actually decent when he plays. Thats saying something.
Marco Belinelli's Biggest Fan
Anyone else cringe at fact we passed on Danny Granger....
(And Andew Bynum, although to be fair he was a monster project who benefitted greatly from all the work w/ kareem). mullin really messed that 1 up….
Granger + Monta, neither are what i consider real first options but combine they could be something nice
Diogu looked like a decent pick.
Channing Frye was our pick if he had fallen to us. Either way is not really a win. Although I thought at the time that Bynum looked like a decent project with his size. Imagine having him and AB as your Center combo…Granger was lucky find for Pacers…its irrelevant anyways the way we have drafted over the years. its all bad.
