Was George for Belinelli really meaningless?
The Warriors trade over the summer that looked like a steal for the Raptors, officially is a steal for them. Not that the Craptors are really good, but they got a nice piece for D GEorge. The warriors could have really used somebody who plays defense, passes, shoots, and creates next to Curry, and monta. Sorry Morrow, you haven't shown the ability to do anything besides hit 3's this year, and get manhandled on D. What do you guys think now about the trade?

even if you think he's an average player
dont you think we could be using him right now considering that devean george is terrible.

definatley could have used him
he would have been starting and we all saw what he can do when he starts

latley he has not hit anything but morrow hasnt either
his minutes in the beginning of the year were getting messed with by triano.
And morrow has missed 26 of last 33 or sumthing like that. havent calculated it but thats not very good

No need to calculate:
True shooting pct:
Morrow .620
Belinelli .530
Not close. Marco is a better playmaker, but Morrow takes care of the ball better and is a much better rebounder. Marco’s effect on his crappy team has been negative (-2.0, -2.1 adjusted) while Morrow’s effect on his crappy team has been positive (+9.8, +1.9 adjusted).
Marco is not as good a player as Morrow, Watson, Monta, or Curry. Sure, with the near simultaneous fall of Kelenna and departure of Jackson, we probably could have used him for 5-10 minutes a night, but as others have said, no one could have predicted that stroke of bad luck. Hindsight is 20:20.
Fans of Marco should be happy he got traded, as in Toronto he’s been able to get some real minutes he mightn’t have gotten with us — minutes he’s used to prove somewhat more conclusively that he’s a pretty crappy player.

Morrow takes care of the ball better?
the guy cant dribble more than once without dribbling it off his feet. And if you notice every team attacks him on defense like caron butler tearing him up. When Marco was here he was guarding the best player on every team do a decent job.

Marco was improving but still was a bad defender
You vastly overate Marco. Why doesn’t he play a lot in Toronto?
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"
Turnovers per 36, this year / career
Morrow 1.5 / 1.3
Marco 2.1 / 2.2
That’s all I meant by “takes care of the ball better.” You seem to have a different, totally subjective measure. Good for you.
Your screen name makes it pretty easy for readers to judge the reliability of your thoughts on this question. Thanks, at least, for being transparent. ;-)

In HINDSIGHT, yes, he could be useful RIGHT NOW
but that doesn’t make the trade bad in any way. No one could have predicted that 4 out of 5 of our starting lineup would be out. Stop dwelling on this dumb trade, it was a good trade AT THE TIME. Bellineli is still a bad player, just because he would be good when half our roster is injured doesn’t change anything.

how was it ever a good trade.
Beli was shooting 48% from 3 a week and a half ago, and now that the entire team has played terrible, his shooting has gone way down, but its not like he’s better than morrow at defense, or driving/creating for others.

As long as we’re picking random data points: Devean George is hitting 60% from 3. He’s also snagged 5.5 boards per 36 (better than twice Marco’s clip) and has an assist:turnover ratio of ∞ . ;-P

still don’t care. if marco was a post player, then maybe we’d have reason to be upset right now, but he’s still worse than morrow and CJ and would be the 5th guard with our current lineup and would have never ever played if buike hadn’t got hurt. best case scenario, marco makes this team better by an incredibly marginal amount. meh.

Bad Trade
We exchanged bargaining chips and Marco was worth more than George by a million miles.
George is done and Marco is just starting to get going…I give him this year before I pass judgment….he’s very talented, I hope he puts it all together…
Marco was worth more than George by a million miles.
the sad reality is that that is only true in the minds of Warriors’ fans. he’s younger & a better offensive player, but his value around the league is that of Devean George or Joey Graham or like Acie Law the throw-in to make a Raja Bell trade work (w/ Kelenna as the main piece).

Homer:
I think the jury is still out on Marco, he has not had the time to prove himself yet and that is exactly why he had a much higher trade value than George.
Let’s face it we lost on that trade, a young player with promise until he proves otherwise for a broken down man on his last leg with no trade value other than an expiring….
If Marco turns out to be a bust so be it, but he has to have the chance to prove himself which he;’s getting right now….so time will shortly tell…
lol
Belineli has no better trade value than George. Stop making up values from thin air.

My Dear Friend Lost
I’m gonna patiently wait for you to be right on at lest one point before I leave GSOM , It may taker a long time but i’m gonna hang in their..
Have a nice Xmas Chap !
You haven’t been right on ANY points, you are just blindly looking at everything like a GSW homer. All your points on the other post about the trades Riley has made have been pretty ridiculous. So far all of the moves we have made under Riley have been surprisingly GOOD at the time of the trades. Moving Jack/Crawford for expiring contracts WAS GREAT AT THE TIME. Could not have asked for more (you are not going to get any impact players for crawford or jackson). I think most people on this site would agree with me on those two trades. The belineli trade was pretty much a pointless trade that has no real impact on either side at the time, doesn’t help or hurt us (AT THE TIME). Belineli, bad. George, bad. Two bad players being traded for each other is totally inconsequential to the win totals of either team.
In the long run the Jack/Crawford trades have a HUGE impact on our team in a good way. Having the freedom of expiring contracts is FARRRR more useful than having the big/overpriced/long contracts of crawford and jackson, especially with a team that is trying to rebuild. If we want ANY chance of getting an impact player, the trades of crawford and jackson were NECESSARY and the CORRECT TRADES.

whether Marco reaches his Vujacic-like potential is not my point. I didn’t like the trade either (b/c it was a save money move by Cohan/Rowell).
what I’m saying is that his value around the league is not “worth more than George by a million miles”. look at the offers they received for Marco. Devean George + money. Joey Graham. He was contract filler for Raja Bell with Kelenna being the player the Bobcats wanted. He was contract filler in the Amare trade. His value around the league is next to nothing.

People are making Belli out as some kind of Kobe Bryant it seems. Trade wise they are the same except in the eyes of Warriors homers. Almost the whole starting lineup is out due to injury, Morrow is in a rare shooting funk at the moment, and people already calling for his head and want Bellinelli? If only Raja wasn’t injured…..
The Warriors need someone with a low post game (Maggette is out best option right now, and that’s just sad) and someone who can defend the low post. Bellinelli is just another guard who can shoot occasionally. We do NOT need another guard, wasn’t everyone complaining about our plethora of guards last season?

Seriously bad trade!....so far!
Beli was much better than george and would have been more useful to us now with all of these injuries. But in all fairness, nobody could have predicted the injuries this team would endure. The school of thought here was that george, among others were acquired to package their expiring contracts for an impact player (or cap space???). The real test on how bad or good this trade will be depends on what this team does with these expiring contracts. l for one will be highly pissed off if nothing comes to fruition.
