My Notebook

  •  CJ Watson's 6 steals in the 2nd qtr ties the Warriors record for steals in a qtr. Baron Davis set the first record in Jan 2008.
  • The Warriors got their second injury exception, but will wait until Jan 5th to use it.
  • Anthony Morrow said he has started doing shooting drills with balls off the rack instead of off passes in hopes that he'll be invited to participate in the three-point shootout during the All-Star break.
  • Larry Riley will attend a D-League showcase next week in Idaho.

What's next?

The Warriors kick off the last major road trip tomorrow night: @Lakers, @Blazers, @Nuggets, @TWolves. Warriors won't be back until next Friday, Jan 8th, so they'll ring in the new year on the road. On, uh, "second thought", the Warriors could come home right after the Lakers game, so they could spend the New Years around here. In any case, we still won't see another home Warriors game until next Friday.

if you don’t love ronny turiaf, you probably don’t have a soul. such a great guy, brings so much to the team and really makes the team fun to watch. we’re lucky to have him in our lives.

heart of a champion, will of the warrior.

Yes he is...

Unfortunately some still refuse to understand that a plyer can bring more to a team than simply numbers alone.

I remember in an interview during the offseason, someone asked him if he’d grow an afro like kobe did. He laughed and said no. Wonder what changed his mind.

i say monta, cj, rad, and turiaf were the big keys in this game

Monta for his leadership and scoring, Cj for his energy and effectiveness, Rad Man for his hustle on the boards, and D, and Turiaf for energy and leadership. This was a team win all around, everyone (except Curry and Hunter) contributed.

That was a very quick yank of Hunter

Wonder what task it was he couldn’t do that caused such a quick stint. Or maybe it was his charge.

Looking at the gameflow

this was a pretty evenly matched game in the 2nd half. No major runs by either team.

CJ’s going to get recognition for his 6 steals in the 2nd, but an honorable mention goes to whatever assistant coach or coaches that came up with the defensive change on Ray Allen. This was mentioned by Matt Steinmetz during the game, and in the Nellie post game interview, he gave credit to “the coaches”.

by IQofaWarrior on Dec 29, 2009 1:07 AM PST reply actions

Monta

He carried us in the 2nd half and without him in the 4th they would have taken the lead without looking back. CJ was very good though.

It's not a true roadtrip.

At LA, then three days off. At POR then two days off.

They’ll fly to LA then come back home the same night, same with Portland game. They probably won’t fly to Portland till Friday afternoon on Jan 1st which means they’ll likely spend New Years in the Bay Area. Then a quick bang bang at Den/Minny back2back, then 7 in a row at home. It’s gonna be nice.

by Bob on Dec 29, 2009 3:13 AM PST reply actions

CJ got 6 steals in the 2nd qtr and a 7th one later in the game

It turns out his 7th steal was the very last play when the Celtics tried a full court inbounds.

Very impressve performance and effort from many...

I liked the hustle, if they can do this again, which will be a stretch, then I really hope the fellas make yet another upset and beat LA….

However….

Anyone else notice how the Warriors had to face Cleveland and then Boston the following night on the East coast trip and then Celtics followed by the following night by a game with the Lakers….

Conspiracy theories anyone? I understand that certain games may fall in the same week, but thats twice now where the Warriors have to face league leading teams back to back….one might suggest that forcing a run and gun team to play back to backs against extremely tough opposition….‘might’ gift the opposing team a bit of an easier game?

;-)

All conjecture of course….

Lets stay HOT!

Now that were getting healthy and have beat two good teams in a row I really hope the Warriors stay hot! It has been a rough season so far but it really feels good to watch the Warriors finally playing some good Basketball. This is how the team should look every night. Gotta love how the team is playing now….

Wonderful game last night

Really enjoyed watching quarters 2-4. The win was a team effort, but CJ’s steals sparked the Warriors drive to take the lead. Having Ronny (and to a lesser extent, AB) in the middle REALLY helps the W’s defense. Hunter could provide that while they were out, but because he doesn’t know the system very well, isn’t really a scorer, and is generally mediocre, he couldn’t get much PT—and of course, Nellie likes to play small ball anyway. The more we can play as a regular sized team, the more success we can have.

To put this game into perspective though, the W’s record is still worse than the Raiders. Just saying. If we can come out and play on the road in a B2B against the Lakers and win, now that would be something special.

Hey Orangino!!!

Just wanted to say that your extended highlights are one of my absolute fave features of this site. Especially necessary today, as I couldn’t watch the game (just moved to a new apartment and am temporarily leeching off the neighbors’ wireless, too sluggish for streaming). This is really what hoops highlights should be: footage of entire plays, sequences, and runs, rather than short-attention-span clips of dunks accompanied by smart-alecky Stuart-Scott-style “commentary” and/or third-rate hip-hop…

Anyway, deep thanks and big props for your great work. I’ll admit, by the end of your awesome highlight reel, I was tearing up a little. 9-21! What an utter sap I am…

There will be no extra point!

Agreed

but no idea if orangino even comes to GSOM. He’s been posting Warrior’s highlights for a while now. Only until IQ started putting up WWL was when orangino’s stuff started getting posted here.

However, if he does lurk here, thanks man!! i love you.

I have to say...

that watching AR tonight was fun. He was active and aside from a few sloppy passes, I think he did a phenomenal job, probably some of the best I have seen him.

18 pts, 9 boards, and only one TO.

Good job AR!

by venom322 on Dec 29, 2009 9:53 AM PST reply actions

The best part about AR’s game was that he didn’t come unglued after a rough early start. Getting rejected on the layup and dunk attempts in the first quarter could have easily ruined his confidence. He continued to play hard and aggressive without allowing “aggressive” morph into “stupidly out of control”.

lol

The celtics blog act like their season is over or something. I’d take that 23-7(or whatever they have) record in a heart beat. I think they’re a little spoiled if you ask me.

The celts tried to out muscle the warriors (Perkins in particular) by setting physical screens and playing aggressive D, but the refs did not let them get away with it. They have nothing to complain about. On a side note, I think it bears mention that Nelson deserves some credit for forcing the celtics to go to their least desirable offensive option: Rondo shooting jumpers. Even though he had 30 points, I’ll let him shoot jumpers all day if it means Perk and KG aren’t getting open looks at the rim. It’s like poker: the end result of a hand has no bearing on whether the decision was correct or not. Great win.

Randolph

I was absolutely giddy when Randolph scored those 8 points in row, then gave his roaring fist pump as the Celtics called time out.

Also, Monta’s midrange looked deadly, I don’t think he missed from 15 ft. It reminded me of two years ago. When he would come in, stop on a dime and pop right up. You could count those as soon as you saw him jump.

by WheresMyChippy on Dec 29, 2009 10:55 AM PST reply actions

It reminded me of two years ago.

Totally agree. But I think this year, it’s alot more efficient (and amazing) since the defenses are keying on him more than they were in that 07-08 season, where he was the 2nd or even 3rd option behind Baron and Jackson.

WARRIORS BASKETBALL!!! Patiently waiting for a title...I may be waiting for a long time...

Great to see AR follow up a good game against PHX (17 pts and 6 rebs)with another good game against BOS (18 pts and 9 rebs). I would love to see this consistency for the rest of the year!

Tall Man + Fro = Artis Gilmore

Rudolf could also do a lot worse than to model his game after Gilmore’s…

Career true shooting % .623 (career high .702)
Career rebounds/game 12.3 (career high 18.6)

At the very least that lefty sky hook could be a very nice addition to AR’s repertoire…

There will be no extra point!

AR was money last night

Not sure why he got so few minutes towards the end of the game. Oh, wait, Nellie is coaching, my bad.

by Lifelong on Dec 29, 2009 12:16 PM PST reply actions

You should read Feltbot's recap

It’s a great analysis. Nellie changed AR’s job to match up against the Celtics centers, instead of Kevin Garnett. When Randolph played Garnett early in the game, KG didn’t buy AR’s jumper, and AR wasn’t hitting them, so KG kept clogging the lanes, stagnating the Warriors offense.
