Player Evaluations / Rotation (playing GM and Coach)
Monta Ellis - Its crazy, for the first time as a fan im expecting a warrior to end the game with 30-5-5 and take over with a few dazzling plays. He's shown so much with his defensive effort and tenacity, his new found ability to post up guards, ever-improving 3pt shot, and showing more emotion throughout the game. Its even translated into his post game when i used to be embarrassed for him to talk to commentators or other random interviewers. Over the last month he has proven he is not a liability as an undersized 2 on either end of the floor and would venture to say after his domination of bRoy that only a select few 2 guards would really be able to exploit his size as a 2. Namely Kobe, joe Johnson, or Vince. Unless were playing one of those guys the game plan should be him playing 45 minutes a game exclusively at the 2.
AB / Ronny - These guys were sorely missed and it showed immediately with Ronny shutting down Amare and slowing KG. Beans will come full circle in the next 2-3 weeks dominating the boards and stacking double-doubles once again. Having these guys split time at center and very sporadically playing them together will shore up our defense. Between the 2, 48 minutes at the center give about 30 to beans and ronny 20-25 playing some at the PF.
Corey Maggette - at 9 mil with bukie out, he cant afford to come of the bench which seemed to be his role at the beginning of the season. His energy and professionalism is something to be admired only because of all the whining i see from pro athletes that make millions to play a game when things dont go right (tmac). He goes out there and does what he’s told and happy to be there. (Al Harrington) That being said he was the biggest black hole in the NBA but has turned a real corner. His shot selection in improving, hes staying healthy. he needs to be playing 35-40 minutes a game spending SOME of the that time at the PF only to exploit matchups and accommodate foul trouble from our bigs. This guys has graduated from the constant criticism and deserves some kudos fellas.
Watson / Curry - Every time I pray for this d-leaguer to get traded cut or hurt he comes out and str8 balls! he gets steals, rebounds, and 50/50 balls with a rare determinism. he's getting paid 1 mil with a cap of somewhere close to 60 mil, hes a keeper and on a night like last night against Boston, argues he should be starting. Coming back to earth, Curry is our future and his defense is not to shabby, especially for a rookie. his minutes seem to be about right. Nellie has him starting, playing 30 minutes, but would like to see more of him in clutch situations. Watson needs backup minutes at the point and SG which won’t be much, but should be around 15-20 minutes delegated to him.
Randolph / Radmon - 40 minutes a night to Randolph, period. He has to be allowed room to grow (even trough mistakes). Im not proclaiming him as the next KG or even Lamar, but if he indeed reaches that level and we gave him up b4 he got a real chance it would be devastating to this franchise. It already happened with Webber and i would question my fanhood if randolph turned into a star somewhere else. He needs to spend 85% of his minutes the PF. His blocks and dunks are inspiring. His 18 footer needs work but shows potential. He only needs to be shooting them once hes gotten a few bunnies or blocks (case in point, last night.) Got nothing but praise for Radmon, he’s come in, done what hes been told. his defense and rebounding has been surprising but gets sloppy seconds in terms of minutes unless we have a specific need to stretch the floor due to randolph’s poor shooting or foul trouble that night. 10 mintues a night.
Morrow - i saved morrow for last and only have roughly 13 minutes left out of a 240 give per night. he deserves those and must get them at the 2/3 but he is really SG. Right now he is a one trick pony in the truest sense and im going to be harder on him that most people out there. Until last night, over the past few weeks he proved how useless he is when he not hitting his outside shot. Ill say this, I believe he top 5 of the pure shooters in the NBA and has made be fully get over marco whom i had way too much stock in and i over hyped. He's a slightly above average rebounder for a SG but when you trot him out there at the PF and somewhat at the SF he becomes mediocre or below average at even that. Does anyone else's feel uncomfortable watching him dribble that ball? Founded or unfounded i need a starting 1,2, or 3 to be able to handle to the point where a defenders eyes don’t light up when he’s bringing the ball up. Maybe he grows into a starter but right now he’s not and should only play more that 15 minutes if he caught fire.
Overall, i think this season has found its path the rest of the season. randolph having 8 blocks the other night and 18/9 last night in 24 minutes says he's ready. I don’t think wright should be a part of our future. if we keep him, then let watson walk and trade rad for a backup PG. when bukie comes back he going to slide someone right out the rotation, most likely watson. if we can dump wright for say a draft pick to offset the pick we gave to NJ we should, even a later pick. (im only down on Wright b/c he has less potential and too redundant to randy (as ronny would call him)) Nellie, please continue to to start Monta, Curry, Magg, Randy, and Goose. Please play them together at starter minutes and give morrow some of the randolph/marco treatment. it will help his game and our future. Lemme preface this by saying i dont wish undue harm or career ending injuries on nobody, nor do i wish their livelihood to be affected, that being said, the basketball gods (or management deciding) to give Mmoore season ending injuries was my xmas present early. Thank you.

Morrow developing bad habits
When Morrow catches his first move should be UP to shoot. Right now, 9 of 10 passes caught in shooting position, his first move is either jab step or fake pass - he immediately takes himself out of rhythm.
He looks tentative – seems to be sense he took time off for the passing in his family.
Before his biggest problem was learning how to get open (Mullin would be a BIG help to him if he were still with the organization) – - his shot was never an issue. Now it is.
15 min’s MAX until he gets back over 50%.
15 min’s MAX until he gets back over 50%.
Haha. His shot is still the absolute least of his “issues.” His true shooting percentage is currently at .612 — better than, for example, LeBron (.600), Kobe (.564), and Wade (.528). He’s also rebounding his position more than adequately (4.5 rebs per 36 minutes). Main thing he really lacks now is aggressiveness — a clear sense of when and where to assert himself on the floor. That’ll come, naturally. In the meantime, he still tends to help the team much more than hurt it when he’s on the floor (+6.4 plus-minus, +0.4 adjusted).

All true except...
i think those numbers are skewed pre-death in the family. I believe he was shooting .64 before.
the last 5 – 6 games he’s not been as good. Overall his 3-point mark is down recently – and THAT’s where his value to the team is.
my issue is he’s regressed of late. last night he hit a couple great shots, but passed a wide open jumper with the clock winding down. showing signs of coming out of his funk, but still not there.
cmon
he was shooting super human before injury. Any guy with a career 45+% 3pt range is ridiculous. You think Ray Allen and Reggie Miller never hit slumps/ They were better shooters than him.
if you notice, last night when we moved the ball well he got better looks
none of those numbers show how atrocious he is on defense
he gets beat 95% of the time the other team trys to score on him.

Plus-minus would likely indicate such atrociousness … if it were so.
At least it would have more bearing on reality than some number you pulled out of your … hat. ;-P

I'd like to give this team atleast january to figure itself out
then we can talk trade deadline deals…..
Why Shouldn't BWright be involved in the future of the Dubs?
He hasn’t even had a chance to prove himself….Nellie was happy with his progression before his injury…and you say it’s because he’s redundant on this team? Because one spot where we are loooaded is at the 4…
My icon is a testament to the Dubs ability to play defense.
Assuming AR has found himself
i think B’Wright is a must trade. he’s a nice player with post skills, BUT if AR is going to start at the 4 (assuming the last couple weeks becomes a full time, he’s back on track – AR), then his back up should be the big/beefy type that’s not going to get pushed around the block.
Both AR and Wright can get bullied by bigger players on the boards. If AR is getting pushed around, Nellie needs someone with a different skill set to be able to go to. Wright would just be getting more of the same.
I think B Wright will be part of a trade for a vet either at the deadline this year or in the offseason.
-10000
why would we trade wright? We’ll get little to know value. We must play him. Now if he plays well, but randolph is still better, trade him. but today we’d essentially get back nothing for him….
Whether you like him or not, he’s gotta get a shot next year, if he shows anything a 23 year old PF w/ his skills is still a valuable commodity.
+1
actually the fact the we got radmon, randolph, ronny part time and magg part time at the 4. combined with the fact that neither wright nor randolph have girth, tooo light in the ass, left handed and both rooks. we need a vet that has some girth and better post that even wright has..

at this point
i would have wright and randolph compete for the pf spot.
Wright is the much more controlled player with a somewhat refined game to go along with his tremendous athleticsm and wing span. His defense isn’t great but is Randolph’s?
Randolph does one thing better than Wright and that is rebound, otherwise, wright is the better player.

u got it backwards..
the only thing wright has on randolph is a more refined low post game..

and his scoring efficiency
but i agree, AR is better in the longer run and at many different facets of the game…they are VERY different players
You know I spit technique to the freshest freak
Gimme a call you will see results in just a week

hmmm…. he’s a miles more efficient scorer. Career .574 TS% to .511 with a higher PER.
Also comparing Wright among our bigs….
1) Bwrights rebounds per 36 are higher than turiaf and radmonovic.
Wrights career is 8.7
Turiaf 7.9
Radmonovic 6.1
Keep in mind this is based off a whopping 1000 minutes in the NBA. He should actually get a little better. Randolph for reference is 11.1, however his year has been 10.2 and it’s worse @ PF. His most efficient rebounding has come @ center.
2) Wrights blocks are very comparable to Randolph (2.0 to 2.4)
3) From non-statistic point of view, he runs the pick and roll better than Randolph
4) he turns it over half as often (1.2 to 2.5 a game)
IMO Wright has a place on this team. him + Randolph with one more summer of training could be a nightmare for defenses. 2 Super long athletes no teams big can keep up with. Wright is our most efficient scoring big behind Biedrins. The way Monta and Curry are growing, we can’t have too many bigs with good hands to cut to basket.
Considering he’s missed a whole year what can we really get for him in a trade? I actually think if he shows up and plays to his potential i’d trade Randolph over him, but thats just me. Eitherway let’s give it a chance next year. The 4 man combo gives us great depth upfront and puts us in a position of strength to trade IF they can stay healthy and play to there potential
So much of the NBA is about match ups and playing style
Can’t just look at our own player to determine minutes.
Other team’s strengths, injuries to other team’s players, etc. all play a role.
i concur
my projections are more like a template, you ride the hot hands and exploit mismatches when necessary, and obviously have to factor in fouls and injuries.

Wow J, it looks like you spent a lot of time on this piece. I do agree with you for the most part though. The only thing that I would not agree with is your point that when Azubukie comes back that that C.J Watson be let go if you cannot trade Wright. Watson is to important to this team. He the player that does everthing asked of him, and plays hard and smart, even if not naturally as talented. He is what you want from your backup PG. Like you mentioned in your post, he has moments that make you think he should be starting, and when that is the case, even sometimes, and he makes 1 mil a year, you don’t get rid of it. He’s a keeper just like Ronny and Azubukie.
We really need to watch this current group of players play 20 something games together before a fair assessment can be made. Even then, they are all so young, it’s very hard to evalulate.I’ll give it a shot.
I really really think the key to this team getting to .500 or better next season is Curry’s development as a PG. As a rookie with just over 30 pro games under his belt, he’s already the best PG on the team, and for a guy who only played the position seriously for one collegiate year, it’s been pretty encouraging to see. But we’ve also seen plenty of weakly thrown balls, traveling violations, and the like. He’s not playing at NBA speed, not yet. But he’s shown every indication that he will get there, likely sooner than later.
We all seen what a team with average to decent talent can do when a crafty but smart PG is the quarterback out there. Baron made Al Harrington, Matt Barnes, Pietrus etc. into winners, despite all their deficencies. I think that if Curry can turn the corner on this PG thing, everyone will look so much better and for a team that already has a good amount of young, developing talent, it will make all the difference in the future. And if he starts approaching the scoring ease and near virtuosity he showed in college, he could be the Dubs best player in a few years. Besides a 20/10 season from AR, of course.
