Marc Stein says that many title contenders will want Bell if he recovers within a month of his wrist surgery (which is the best-case-scenario)

Maybe get a late first for him?

Salary relief or a decent big

One of the few to have appreciated Cap'n Jax. Do well in NC, get that 8th seed!

Bell needs to stay!

“Bell quickly showed what kind of influence he can have in Oaktown by insisting to play in Boston on Nov. 18 because the Warriors had only eight other healthy players … after it had already been decided that he’d be having the wrist surgery. The Warriors’ collective team spirit has been much better since Jackson’s departure and Bell’s willingness to play that game is seen as one of the catalysts.”

He’s exactly what we need in this locker room. Even though he played that one game, he earned the respect of a lot of the younger Warriors. He needs to stay so that he can teach the youngins about hard work and dedication.

I hope bell stays….unless we can get a legit star for him + others.

If we can get Amare/Bosh…I wouldn’t mind losing him.

Otherwise, he’s pretty much a player that we need in order to help develop our young guns.

Seriously. If this guy can play we should not only keep him this year we should sign him to a 2 year deal with an option. He would be so good for us on and off the court. Screw the “contenders.” No one is beating the Lakers if they’re healthy anyway.

do you think he'll want a 2 year deal here?

if he has offers from contenders for more or less same? He’s nearing end of his career. i’m sure he wants a run at a title

That being said I'd trade him for a first or a couple seconds

Maybe we can pick up some foreign players leave them overseas, and in a year or two let them come a la rudy fernandez, luis scola, and an increasing trend among the smarter teams in the league (read: not warriors)

by tafkasam on Dec 3, 2009 10:25 AM PST reply actions

A first maybe, but a first != two seconds. Second round picks have very little value.

by Missing Barry on Dec 3, 2009 10:27 AM PST up reply actions

depends on your scouting....

of last years draft alone: Dante Cunningham, Dejaun blair, Marcus Thornton, chase budinger all second rounders.

Monta, Marc Gasol, Gilbert Arenas all second rounders

Look at Houston: Trevor Ariza, Carl Landry second rounders. You can go on and on. Picks between 20-40 are really undervalued IMO, you can get A LOT of steals there with proper evaluation…. Particularly with foreign players who want to defer a year or two.

by tafkasam on Dec 3, 2009 10:42 AM PST up reply actions

and anyway...

we’ll most likely lose him in off season anyway. Might as well get a couple investments out of him. If you look at the smarter teams (spurs, rockets, blazers, etc.) they know how to properly invest those picks….

we just give them away these days

by tafkasam on Dec 3, 2009 10:44 AM PST up reply actions

And obviously it depends on what range we’re talking about, as the 34th and 36th picks are probably more valuable combined than the 28th, but in general, I think you guys are highly overrating the value of a 2nd rounder. Of course you can always find examples of guys that succeeded, but the point is how many guys failed for each one that made it? Go back and look at the 2006 and 2007 drafts, for instance (I picked these just because it gives guys a couple years to establish themselves, or finally come over if they’re foreign, if you want to use other years, go ahead) – I count all of 4 decent players total from those drafts second rounds – Carl Landry, Paul Millsap, Marc Gasol, Ramon Sessions. Maybe add a couple if you look through the list and think I’m downplaying a couple guys (Powe, maybe?), whatever, that’s still like 6 out of 60 players that are worthwhile rotation pieces. Not very good odds…

If the right deal comes along trade him

The guy seems to be a great influence on the young players and the play of the team in general, but if we can get something for him before he signs a contract this offseason with a contender (which he surely will do, you really expect him to stuck with the Dubs with their crazy drama all the time?), pull the trigger without hesitation.

by Pearlsofwisdom on Dec 3, 2009 10:57 AM PST reply actions

If we are going to trade him hit should be in a package with Claxton and perhaps someone/something else that nets us a real NBA player. I look at more draft picks as essentially worthless. We have enough young guys as it is, and a pick from a contender is not going to be nearly high enough to justify such a trade.

on the otherhand....

Look at Portland. Built organically throw drafting. Talent is talent, and since the current state of GSW makes it hard to attract free agents, we’ll have to build this way. Proper scouting you can find some players. Despite being a young team, next year: Monta enter’s his 6th year, Biedrins his 6th, Morrow his 3rd, Buike his 4th (or 5th?), Randolph his 3rd, and on and on. They may be young, but they aren’t THAT young, particularly nba experience wise. And if we don’t start seeing improvement anyway, they just may not be that talented or at the very least we should start looking for more/new talent.

A team interested in Bell would be a contender, and if they r contending they won’t give away ANYTHING which helps them today, only future players…

Bell + Claxton is interesting though, thats 10 mil in cap space. Packaged w/ some young talent, a team that wants to rebuild could part w/ a real piece a la Gasol to Lakers. but even in that scenerio, they did have to give up a huge prospect. So don’t expect anything real for just 2 expirings. We’ll most likely have to attach something interesting…. Randolph, Morrow, Curry

Bell, Claxton, Curry to Charlotte for Wallace and a filler guard

More than what? Gerald Wallace is exactly who we need.

Gerald Wallace is exactly who we need.

an undersized 4 who will struggle against majority of the western conference playoff team 4s?

by tafkasam on Dec 3, 2009 1:11 PM PST up reply actions

Or a correctly sized 3?

by Missing Barry on Dec 3, 2009 1:14 PM PST up reply actions

Forgive me for not liking him at 3.

He cannot shoot 3s but it doesn’t stop him from taking them. He is a poor passer, ball handler. He’s an upgraded version of maggette, but not exactly worth it unless we can dump corey’s contract.

Even then maggette’s a more efficient scorer (Though wallace is better at about everything else)

by tafkasam on Dec 3, 2009 1:28 PM PST up reply actions

Well, I wasn’t commenting on Wallace as a player, just pointing out that he plays the 3 almost exclusively. For instance, last year he spent well over 1,000 minutes at the 3 and about 200 at the 4 (using 82games.com data). This year 9 of the top 10 5 man units they’ve used have Wallace at the 3, the other one (their 5th most used 5 man unit) has him at the 4.

by Missing Barry on Dec 3, 2009 2:01 PM PST up reply actions

yes but its only cause they use diaw @4

if you watch them play its pretty interchangeable but offensively it’s more or less the reverse.

by tafkasam on Dec 3, 2009 2:33 PM PST up reply actions

He's actually a decent passer

He’s not selfish but won’t be making great passes either. If he knows there isn’t something there he will pass it off like a Raja Bell. Not a lot of assists but not selfish. I’d love to have him

I guess we'll be letting his contract expire...

Cause the worst case scenario is now a reality!

His value as a trade piece is not effected at all by his injury status. Expirings are expirings. Too bad tho, would have loved to keep him.
