Top 50 NBA Players
This is a list that was put together by several coaches and players, some HOF some not of the top 50 current NBA players. For some reason this was posted earlier but deleted, this is a basketball forum right?

By the way to whom is may concern according to this list Amar’e is #19 and Corey Maggette does not make the list, yet they have the same numbers. ; )
Dont be Crazy
PER 36 never lies!
Stats = everything!!!
Stats are important to people who make silly lists like this one — especially offensive stats.
And speaking of STAT … If the clown who put together this list weren’t so hung up on PPG, he would likely realize that Amare Stoudemire is a terrible defender and passer and an increasingly poor rebounder — a player who, thus far this season, has had a negative impact on his team when he’s played.
But but but PPG never lies! Stats = everything! ;-)
There will be no extra point!

My litmus test for lists like this
If you’re talking about best player in the NBA right now and Lebron isn’t number 1, your list fails.
If Andre Iguodala isn’t in the top 10 (or at last the top 20) and is behind freaking Vince Carter, your list fails.
If it contains two players from a pretty horrendous Grizzlies team, and neither of them have are Spanish, have an older brother on the list, your list fails.
If your list still contains Richard Jefferson, T-Mac, Shaq, Michael Redd, and Elton Brand, then you probably haven’t watched an NBA game recently, and your list fails.
I could probably go on (I didn’t even get to Rashard Lewis, Gerald Wallace, LaMarcus Aldridge, and many others who aren’t on the list), but I think it’s easy to see that this list is more about putting the 50 biggest names in the NBA (with notable exception of Iverson, how’d they leave him off this?) than actually discussing the best players.
Read the criteria
Up until today.
Monta Ellis has had, what? 1 most improved player of the year season? Then what? Nothing.
That is going to change. I am sure. Give it time.
Seriously, what has Michael Redd or Andrew Bynum ever won?

NBA Championship and Olympic Gold Medal.

Besides,Monta is a better overall player than Michael Redd...
can’t compare him to Bynum because they play different positions.
by Cpt. Jack in the Box on Dec 3, 2009 5:26 PM PST up reply actions
The question was what have they won?
When Bynum holds up his hand is their a ring on his finger?
Does Michael Redd have a gold medal?
What has Monta done to be on this list?

Kerr won five championships
I don’t think anyone is going to argue that he was one of the best players in the league though. It’s an issue of causation vs. corrrelation. Did team USA win a gold because of Redd or did he merely hop on the Lebron/Kobe bandwagon… I think we all know the answer to that.
How many All-Star games has Monta been to?
Oh and Bynum didnt play 2 years ago, he was very much the starter in last year’s finals.
Oh and Redd has been an all-star.
this list is a joke. are you really going to have Derrick Rose over Gilbert Arenas and Rondo? and Shane Battier is on that list? Monta Ellis is probably better than 30% of that list.
Calling this list a joke
Is like calling all those NBA Hall of Famers, NBA head Coaches and current NBA players idiots.
Because you know more about the game then them right?
Now, that’s just not true. Maybe the process for making the list sucks. Maybe they didn’t put a whole lot of effort into it. Maybe human nature isn’t exactly unbiased when it comes to voting for tthese kinds of things. Maybe there wasn’t a set criteria for the list so people voted on a lot of different things, producing a final list that doesn’t reflect anything in particular. This list can be pretty meaningless without calling those people idiots.

I don't think it should matter what players did when they were All stars ( Tmac, Redd Etc)
It should what they are doing now. This list is ridiculous.
Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"
Hmm....
That is kind of a strange list. Figures considering they poled about three hundred people who may or may not be following basketball closely at the moment. It looks like different people were using different criteria. Is it the best players at the moment? Best career up to this point? I seriously doubt that this “panel of experts” put much thought into it at all.
As for this:
For some reason this was posted earlier but deleted, this is a basketball forum right?
This is a basketball blog and IIRC the original fanpost didn’t have any original commentary (outside of a snide remark) and was simply a copy and paste of the top 50 list. It is much better suited as a fanshot, so thanks for reposting it. Someone should copy and paste the entire list in the comments (I’d do it but I’m feeling particularly lazy).

I agree, just because they are all affiliated with the NBA doesn’t mean this list makes sense. I’m pretty sure there was no criteria, they just said, name the Top 50 players in the NBA. And people had to decide for themselves what that meant.
If I said, who is the best rapper alive, I could be talking about the most relevant rapper right now, or the best rapper, active or not, that is still breathing. I know people that would say Rakim and I know people that (regrettably) would say Lil Wayne. By certain criteria, both could (arguably) be right, but it doesn’t mean that their lists are about the same thing.
I want to reiterate the point I made in the deleted fanshot. Brian Winters sucks.

Ha
Rec for taking the time to reiterate that fine point.

I have a personal grudge against him for being a douche, beyond just the fact that he wasn’t a good coach for the Warriors.

Personal grudge?
If there is a good story to go along with that I’d love to hear it. ; )
