Yeah
It sucks that I can’t a multiple answer type poll. That would have been perfect for tonight.

Can someone provide an argument for voting “Corey Maggette” in the poll?
by samuraaaaiiiiiii on Dec 4, 2009 1:11 AM PST reply actions
Rockets fans?
or accidentally missing the word “less.” Those are the only two explanations I can come up with.
Why can we only get 13 shot attempts for Morrow?
WHY DAMNIT?!?!?!?!?!?!
Probably because Morrow isn’t good enough to get more attempts…

Why does Corey Maggette think he has a jumper???
Can somebody explain to me why Corey continues to shoot 18-20 ft. jumpers? Does he not realize he is in their to get to the bucket and create contact/fouls? With all those muscles you would think he would put them to good use…
One the flip side Anthony Marrow is turning into the Warriors second best player! If Monta would have realized he was having a terrible shooting game and gave the ball up more then we would have easily won this game but his selfishness cost us. Marrow and Vlad Rad were hot but Monta refused to stop driving into the Rockets defense when obviously it was there game plan not to let him get to the bucket. The few times he did drive and kick we had wide open shots for Marrow and Vlad.
Sidenote: Stephen Curry needs to stop acting like its his first made shot in the NBA every time he hits a jumper. Just my opinion. The pointing to the sky is great but not on every shot…
Even if the jumper is a bad shot for Maggette, he has to take it once in a while just to make the defense respect it (allowing him to drive more effectively). It’s not like it’s a bad shot if he’s completely open, it’s just a bad shot when there’s a defender mildly close to him…but again, it still serves a purpose. He does go to the rim much more often than shoot jumpers, though – see his .577 TS%.
Monta should have taken less shots – agree with that for sure. He did need to drive to try to create for teammates, though, and he did rack up 8 assists, so at least he was doing that a little bit. I think his poor ballhandling limits him, here, as it’s difficult enough for him to keep control of the ball while going to the rim and trying to get a good look, adding in the whole “looking for teammates and passing (another skill that needs work)” to that is too much for him to handle, possibly. Bottom line, Monta’s ball handling needs to improve significantly, and if it does, I think that will have a positive effect on his entire game.

the man can't thank God after he hits a shot?? personally i don't see anything wrong with that.

It might not even be God

He doesn't thank him/her after he misses. What? Was God pissed at him then?

why would he give thanks after a miss?
That doesn’t make any sense.

Monta Ellis Plays Whack-A-Mole
Did Golden State’s star guard Monta Ellis have a terrible game last night?
“No no no… Of course not!” you say. “It couldn’t be a terrible game. He had 24 points and 8 assists!” And yes. This is true.
But consider: he had 9 turnovers, which is just ridiculous. He was also 9-27 of from the field, which is not very good. And 27 shots is a lot. And he got his shot blocked SEVEN different times. Imagine getting blocked that often, and continuing to shoot. Like whack-a-mole, except… (gasp) MONTA’S THE MOLE!

While true, I believe the fact that his shots were getting blocked is actually a good thing for the Warriors. If the options are missing a shot or getting it blocked, I’m pretty sure your team is more likely to retain possession on a blocked shot….so going 9-27 with 7 of them blocked, on average, is better than going 9-27 with none of them blocked…
But yeah, Monta didn’t play nearly as well as 24 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds would suggest. He took way too many shots to score those 24 points and turned it over way too often.

That is up for debate
The blocks on Monta last night (for the most part) occurred when all 4 other Warriors were on the perimeter (to clear out the interior) and Monta was driving to the rim. The only blocks the Warriors are going to recover with this type of “iso” floor distribution are ones that manage to make it all the way back out to the perimeter.
I remember 1 of those occurring off the top of my head: the block got sent to Morrow who missed a quick 3 (pretty critical miss actually.)

I don’t remember what happened on the blocks last night – you could be right. On average, though, the offensive team will recover a block at a much, much higher rate than they will a missed shot. Many blocks do go to the perimeter, or out of bounds.

Vladamir
listen how Vlad re-frames the question posed to him at the end about coaches decision. Veteran move – the young guys can learn a lot by this – the media are not your friends – they are looking for sound bites and baiting players in the locker room when frustration is highest is a well-worn tactic. Listen and learn Monta.
