How to improve the Warriors Game
I think GSW management should start reading sports editors of for instance San Jose Mercury and
fire someone who is too old to coach and get a Smart one to do the coaching or get a Byron Scot to
transform the GSW into a playoff contender. The problem with Nellie is that his players become
self-conscious after the first turn over. He did this to Monta when he was new. Keith Smart would
give the players a chance to redeem themselves. You can see what he is doing to Steph Curry. He
has practically lost his confidence in shooting although he was the best shooting Guard in College.
The coach should tell Curry to shoot when he is open and to pass to the open man as an alternative
especially when quick guys cut to the paint. Also, Maguette should reduce long jumps if his first
one or two do not drop and drive to the basket. That is what he is there for. However he should learn
not to drop his shoulder but to move obliquely when dribbling to the basket. They always get him
on an offensive foul, right or wrong because he is built like a Sherman Tank and the officials play it
safe by calling it an offensive foul.
Finally for the office millionaires: Why can't you get a superstar? When Kevin Garnett was available, Mullin
I'm told did not get him. When Artest was available, someone did not want an unruly person...but can't
you see it is toughness that the Golden State lacks. Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington were tough and
they fought for every rebound. Monta only now shows his skill as a defender specially stealer of balls though
definitely this did not come from Nellie. It seems to me for Nellie the ambition to surpass Lenny Wilkens is
not a good one. What would make it good is when he played the same number of years as Wilkens is that
he surpassed him by the number of wins his team accomplished., not after coaching about a decade more
than Wilkens if you understand what I am driving at.

I agree with the fact that Nelson is bad for this team now and for the future
However I just want to note that Jackson and Harrington are poor rebounders. They didn’t fight for rebounds.
More on Warrior improvement
Pearl, if you are right, why can’t the Warriors get a good enough rebounder. Mickey Moore does
not hack it. Biedrins, Turiaf and Brandon Wright are injured. Chris Hunter and Vlad Rad are superb rebounders but as of now, Keith is asking all the players to rebound not just observe
the ball coming down. However in all fairness it is an art to be successful in rebounding . Height
may not necessarily be the primary ingredient compared to speed.
I need to be fair to Stephen Curry…so far he is the best assisting guard among all the rookies although again for “toughness” they should have chose Tyreke Evans. Almost all the rookies
are ahead of Curry in offense but in assist he is great but it seems at the expense of his
shooting. He, Anthony Morrow, Radmanovich, Rajah Bell are shooters and their primary
decision when open is to shoot. Assist should be secondary. Monta, Maguette, Randolph are basically penetrators who can also shoot not 3-pointers as good as the previously mentioned.
They should always remember their strengths when playing and utilize it. Chris Hunter is
a presence in the paint as was Brandon Wright, Biedrins and Turiaf but not Mickey Moore though.
Sadiri
they should have chose Tyreke Evans.
They didn’t have the choice, Sacto picked before us.

Just a little advice, there’s this great website available with tons of free information – www.basketball-reference.com. Before you make a claim like: “Stephen and Al were tough and fought for every rebound”, or “why can’t the Warriors get a good enough rebounder…Chris and Vlad Rad are superb rebounders”, you can look these things up to see how true they are. Jackson, for his career, gets 4.2 rebounds every 36 minutes. That’s PG quality rebounding. Al Harrington, for his career, gets 7.0 rebounds/36. That’s very bad for a PF. VladRad is even worse than Harrington at 6.1. I think that’s around average for a SF, and Rad is huge for a SF. Hunter, so far, has been pulling down 5.5 rebounds/36. Now, we have a very small sample size for Hunter, he may be much, much better than that, but so far, he’s rebounded like a SG.
On the other hand, Anthony Randolph pulls down 11.5 rebounds/36, which is excellent. Biedrins pulls down 12.1 rebounds/36 for his career, which is excellent, and it’s something he’s improved on almost every single year – he pulled down 12.9 two years ago and 13.4 last year, which puts him in the very elite among rebounders in the NBA. We have the rebounders, we’ve just been injured.
Mikki Moore is not very good, though, so you’re correct about that.
Finally for the office millionaires: Why can’t you get a superstar?
Finally….well, I think we’re trying. It’s a hard thing to accomplish. There just aren’t that many superstars out there. By all accounts we made a legitimate effort to get KG, it didn’t work out. Hopefully we find a superstar soon.

last night summed up all nellie's short comings.
It’s painful cause I will always see Nellie in a positive light. Always liked the guy, liked his general ideas on basketball (sorry slow down, half court 70-76 scores are not basketball) but he’s done.
Even with Smart though, we aren’t MUCH better. There is still a huge talent gap. but it would be a big step in right direction
Why, Why
Why did Nellie decide to put in 3 guards in the 4th qtr when Chris Hunter and Radmanovich were
doing so well.?They should have been there with Morrow, Monta and CJ Watson. I never observed
the warriors rebound significantly in their loss to the Rockets although they led 10 points going
into the 4th Quarter. Sad to say, they should fire Nelson.
even though that lineup got us 3-4 good minutes
when they started cutting it was a good 4 mins before nellie reacted and by then it went from 12 to 2 pts.. Thats my biggest complaint
How to improve the Warriors Game
add chris paul and david west, lose maggete
Or more realistically...
Trade Maggette and Raja Bell to the Spurs for Richard Jefferson, if Jefferson continues to struggle to fit in.

I'll tell you what we lack....
And its what we have lacked for a long time now….
A genuine….All-Star, Small or Power Foward…..
Magette can have his nights…Turiaf with Biedrins may have the occasional good blocking beast game…Randolph no doubt has future talent by the bucket load with the right coaching…..
But right now….we miss that one guy that can really make this team, a team that can win the games we are just losing on… for example…the two Rockets games…..dare I say it…the Cavs game….those three alone with a real “Forward” talent, could have have given us another 3 wins by now…. and thats even without the rest of our rostor being fit…
We need a trade…. we need to move Magette, George, hell Claxton if need be and possibly throwing in Wright (who I just dont think is ever going to be strong enough for this league) and get us a Big that can really help this young team….
The eternal question is who could we realistically get for that group? Which leads the following question, which is….is this line-up a playoff contender in the West?
Monta/Morrow
Curry/Bell/CJ
Starplayer/Buike/First Round Draft Pick
Biedrins/Turiaf/Hunter
Starplayer/Randolph/Radmanovich
Personally I really like look of that potential. I think Curry and Morrow work well together and it seemed that Bell and Monta seemed to work well..
I would be happy putting Radmanovich in place of star player at small forward and think that Radman with Buike is a pretty strong small forward line up with say a good first round draft pick….
Which leans me more toward what can we possibly try to get in the Power Forward position…..
Close game losses I believe are a healthy rostor and one key player away from regular convincing wins…..

Garnett / Mullin
When Kevin Garnett was available, Mullin I’m told did not get him.
It was not for lack of trying. Mullin did everything he could to sweeten the pot (including offering Monta and AB), but Garnett wanted a contender.
Warriors: Not enough – Bid to land Garnett failed
I’ve always wondered how things would have turned out if that trade would have gone through.
Can anyone venture a guess???
Why is it that when a Warrior player is traded eg Harrington, Pietrus, Barnes now Stephen
Jackson, they almost immediately become stars (not superstars). There is of course some
exception in the case of Adonal Foyle but that exception could only exemplify the rule. I think
there is something dreadfully wrong with Nelson’s coaching.
Also why did we trade Jamal Crawford on Nelson’s behest not to mention BD of the Clippers. Somebody has to explain to me the politics or economy of those situations. I can
only in my simplistic way blame the Coach as it is usually done in any athletic organization.
Why is it that when a Warrior player is traded eg Harrington, Pietrus, Barnes now Stephen Jackson, they almost immediately become stars (not superstars).
Perhaps because they don’t?
Not one of the guys you mentioned got any better (let alone became a “star”) after leaving the Warriors. Indeed, all of them had their best seasons with the Warriors.
There will be no extra point!
I agree with you're point, but what you said isn't true.
Jackson’s best season came with us.
Barnes maybe, but he has been about as good for other teams
Al Harrington, definitely was best for the Hawks
Pietrus was probably best last season, helping Orlando reach the finals.

Jamal
Better on the Hawks then on the Warriors,
I agree that none of them are stars though.
by freerandolph on Dec 7, 2009 11:16 PM PST up reply actions
Jamal wasn’t one of the guys he mentioned.
On a per minute basis, Harrington had nearly identical production with the Warriors and Hawks.
Piétrus was much better in ‘06/07 (and slightly better in ’07/08) than he’s been with the Magic, last year or this year. The fact that the Magic happen to have Dwight Howard (while we don’t) doesn’t change this.
There will be no extra point!

You forgot the part where Harrington was much, much more efficient on the Warriors than the Hawks….
As for Pietrus, he socred more, scored at a higher efficiency, rebounded more, racked up more assists, and blocked more shots on the Warriors. it’s a pretty clear cut case….
by Missing Barry on Dec 8, 2009 1:58 PM PST up reply actions
Stephen Jackson didnt become relevant until he BECAME A WARRIOR. Harrington has the same problems he has on the Knicks he did on the Warriors: chucked up too many shots, didn’t play enough defense, and rebounded poorly for his size.
Pietrus and Barnes aren’t stars. They’re good players. They’re good now and they were good when on the Warriors.
Jamal Crawford didn’t anything to the Warriors they didn’t already have: scorers who played no defense.
The Baron Davis thing was over an issue of how many actual guaranteed years would be there on a new contract. The Warriors didn’t want to be too heavily invested on a player too injury prone for 5 years. BD wanted more guaranteed years on his contract than what the Warriors were offering.
The only thing I agree with is the notion that Nellie needs to go. The players respond to Keith Smart better and he has more energy to develop and coach the younger players.
Somewhat good analysis
However, if you compare the scoring that Jackson and Harrington did with the Warriors with what they are doing now for Bobcats and NY respectively, I would say they are almost stars if not already. Also I found out something questionable about Keith Smart. He knows Mikki Moore from way back but he is not a legit center. I would prefer Chris Hunter working with forwards like Vlad Rad and Randolf. Moore as well as Maggete has the most turn overs in games where the Warriors have to close out the 3rd and 4th games. The game with the Bulls was winable and I have to agree with Commentators on this. Perhaps Monta was already tired nothing was going in in the last few minutes of the 4th. Again with Maggete, someone has to tell him not to rely so much on his jumpshot. He is there to penetrate. In all fairness Mikki Moore had a good game against New Jersey but on every single other game, he is terrible. He is only a passing post. To me a center should be a presence in the paint for rebounding, blocking and following up
missed shots. He is an D or F in all this categories and a poor passer boot. They should also try playing Devean George who I think can add toughness to the team like a Zach Randolph.
