True

This is a fair comparison in terms of raw ability, Dwayne Wade is much thicker and more crafty with his drives though, and will throw it down on most Big men who challenge him in the lane

by Brothaplease09 on Dec 8, 2009 8:08 AM PST reply actions

+1

Monta does a lot more layups, if he slowed down he’d be a lot like Wade.

Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"

Wade has much higher basketball IQ

Both are explosive but Wade is on a completely different level

by Kid Curry on Dec 8, 2009 9:37 AM PST reply actions

Yes.

This comparison is irrelevant until Monta learns how to drive and kick instead of driving in to traffic and turning the ball over every 3 possessions.

One thing that Monta will never be better than Wade at is

the trick shots he pulls off. Simply AMAZING. Granted, Monta has had some pretty spectacular ones already in this season, but D Wade will forever be the king of trick shots.

WARRIORS BASKETBALL!!! Patiently waiting for a title...I may be waiting for a long time...

Wade’s TS% is higher (56.4% vs 54.5%) and his career assist% is 34.3% vs Monta’s 17.3%. His rebound % is higher 7.6% vs 6.2%. His steal rate is higher 2.6% vs 2.2%. His block rate is higher 2.0% vs 0.7%. His Offensive rating is better 111 to 106. His defensive rating is better at 104 vs 110.

In the playoffs where teams game plan for specific teams, physical play is allowed and defenses ramp up their intensity, Wade has only been marginally worse than he is in the regular season. Monta only has played in 11 games, but he stunk it up. Not to say that Monta isn’t a good player, but Wade is on a different level. I’d say Wade is in that top tier of players and Monta is in that 3rd tier.

Notice that besidees the assist % the numbers aren't that different.

And that’s great because you are comparing a late 2nd draft pick out of high school vs a 1st round early pick in the toughest draft since Iverson/Kobe were picked.

2nd best player in NBA (behind Kobe) who led his team since his rookie year vs a 24 year old who just starting to lead this team and is getting used to handling the ball all the time.

by Am22mO on Dec 8, 2009 1:04 PM PST up reply actions

Not sure how their draft positions is relevant. The topic is “Monta v. Wade,” and Homer broke it down perfectly, without a lot of spin or extraneous information.

On the other hand, your lame attempts to spin LeBron James out of the canon of Best NBA Players are both extraneous and tired. Just for everyone’s further amusement: do you wanna go on record and say Monta is better than LeBron?

There will be no extra point!

Oh god, how emotional do you get when I mention THE BEST player in the league

Kobe. I didn’t mention Lebron because I had no intention of reminding everybody about his arrogant, cocky and annoying persona. Now if you like that clown, you can keep it to yourself, I don’t think anybody cares.

Now you can put back your Kobe hater glasses on and enjoy the airballed FT’s and constant travels by your fav <3

by Am22mO on Dec 8, 2009 7:17 PM PST up reply actions

And just to prove my point

3-14 shooting in 2nd half
4 TO’s in 2nd half

What happens when Cavs are up 2 with 20 seconds to go?
-Plays absolutely 0 defense
-Gives up an easy layup to Rudy Gay
-With 18 on the clock: does his best Monta impersonation and turns it over.

What happens when Lakers are down by 2 with 3 seconds to go?
-you already know

by Am22mO on Dec 8, 2009 7:42 PM PST up reply actions

Expanding your sample size just a bit, to the season to date…

37.3 min
27.3 pts
6.7 reb
8.4 ast
.609 TS%
+17.7 plus-minus (one of two players on the Cavs above zero)
+20.4 simple rating

Does this also “prove your point”?

There will be no extra point!

by Sleepy Freud on Dec 8, 2009 7:59 PM PST up reply actions

Don't really care

Stats don’t tell the whole story. If that was the case Bynum would be better than Howard.

by Am22mO on Dec 8, 2009 8:14 PM PST up reply actions

Not really. Sounds like you just don’t understand how to interpret stats.

There will be no extra point!

by Sleepy Freud on Dec 8, 2009 8:16 PM PST up reply actions

I don’t hate Kobe, the player, at all. I love his game. Indeed, I wasted a bunch of time this week defending his honor against some crackpot who was convinced that Monta Ellis was a better player.

I suspect the burden of proof of emotional stability is on you, when you continually troll this board with claims of Kobe’s greatness and LeBron’s suck-itude, without once supporting your claims with anything resembling facts. It’s especially hilarious when your claims of Kobe’s superiority appear to rest on the “arrogant, cocky, and annoying persona” of LeBron — presumably in oppostion to the deep and abiding humility of Kobe Bryant?

For fun, I’ll ask once again: where, exactly, would you rate LeBron (and his “airballed FTs and constant travels”) among current NBA players? Below Kobe but above Monta? Below Monta but above Marco Belinelli? Below Marco but above POB? Below POB but above Dwight Howard?

There will be no extra point!

by Sleepy Freud on Dec 8, 2009 7:51 PM PST up reply actions

I said in the last thread

1. Kobe
2. Wade
3. Lebron

I never said he’s bad..Obviously. He’s a great player, but he’s vastly overrated.

And he’s the most protected player in NBA by far.

by Am22mO on Dec 8, 2009 7:58 PM PST up reply actions

I never said he’s bad.

You strongly imply it with your constant belittling of his game.

And you still haven’t provided anything, other than a bunch of hot air, to support your “assertions.” Do you just not believe in facts, numbers, and evidence, or did LeBron kick your dog or something?

And where does Dwight Howard rank on your special list again? (Sorry, I can’t resist…)

There will be no extra point!

by Sleepy Freud on Dec 8, 2009 8:15 PM PST up reply actions

Howard..

God I don’t even know..Surely behind Chris Paul, (assuming Kobe, Wade and Lebron are 1,2,3), but I’m not sure about Dirk and Duncan.

by Am22mO on Dec 8, 2009 9:19 PM PST up reply actions

monta played in the playoffs one year

and it was his sophomore year against the team with the best record in the league
not that great of a sample size

by scraider3 on Dec 8, 2009 4:04 PM PST up reply actions

not that great of a sample size

I’m pretty sure that was hinted at in the phrase:

Monta only has played in 11 games

Monta vs. Wade?FORGET THAT..

Monta vs. Jordan baby!

by Cpt. Jack in the Box on Dec 8, 2009 12:12 PM PST reply actions

I like the comparison

Obviously, Wade is at the next level, but the style of game is similar. Sort of a poor man’s version of dwade – not a bad reputation to garner by any means.
Question is – can we surround him with the right players and coaches? Monta needs a legit big man to help him carry the load and help him on an off night – I doubt AR will ever be that guy – not enough natural bball IQ. Hopefully I am wrong.

by tjmax on Dec 8, 2009 12:38 PM PST reply actions

yeah

I don’t think AR is the guy we all thought he could be. If he does become that all-star level player, it would take a few more years. Who knows if he’s even with the Warriors then.

by HopHurdles on Dec 8, 2009 2:07 PM PST up reply actions

AR is 20

He is no where near his prime, he will be much improved next year, and the next and the next. Remember the whole talk of Monta isn’t what we thought he was going to be after his rookie year? Average jump shot, no left hand. See how that turned out? In 2-3 years you will be eating your words.

Rookie: "Why did you bench me?"
Nellie: "You're a rookie"

by dubzfan on Dec 8, 2009 5:46 PM PST up reply actions

I would tend to agree but

Other than his great game the other night – I see two traits that concern me. One, regression – he was better at the end of last year than he is right now. Two, comments by his coach, Smart, about how “AR is working hard again in practice” and his rep last year as not going all out in practices or working on his flaws. he seems to think his athleticism will make up for hard work. This is not the mindset of a future star.
The physical tools are there, not sure about the mental tools or desire to work harder than anyone else.
He’ll get better, but not good enough to truly be a legit force in the league down low (like KG was)- which is what Monta needs.

by tjmax on Dec 9, 2009 7:52 AM PST up reply actions

What about both playing together?

That would be an interesting team. Not that wade will ever come here (even if we had the cap space)

He's a mini-wade

minus making other people around him better.

I remember this comparison starting back in ’07-08.

You can’t go by just numbers. You can compare MAggette with a lot of people but doesn’t mean he is better than them

by Kid Curry on Dec 8, 2009 3:59 PM PST reply actions

A better comparison would be Tyreke Evans

I see a lot of wade in him….

That being said there are 2 aspects to wades game which i consider hugely defining for him that monta doesn’t have.

1. his physical tools- dwade is STRONG and long, what other guard averages more blocks than lebron? seriously.

2. Combine w/ that, his ability to get to line as often as anyone in the league, and an elite amount for a guard

On top of that DWades passing. Monta is an okay passer, but DWade is an elite passing off guard. I don’t consider him a PG, but he has a career average of 6.6 assists to 3 turnovers.

by tafkasam on Dec 8, 2009 4:32 PM PST reply actions

lebron is not a guard

and to answer your question:

among SF’s:
Kirilenko, Granger, Azubuike, Deng, Gibson, Battier, Marion, Durant, Wallace, Gay, Chandler, Gallinari, Outlaw and….Stephen Jackson.
and among SG’s:
Kyle Weaver, Jones, Igoudala, Rush and Salmons

Lebron is the most overrated shot blocker ever. Every time you turn on sportcenter you see a mediocre block by lebron on a 6 foot guard from behind. Wow how amazing. But you’d never see a block by Monta like he did yesterday on Durant on sportcenter.

Also Baron Davis averages the same amount of blocks as Lebron, with Westbrook and Monta behind him.

by Am22mO on Dec 8, 2009 7:25 PM PST up reply actions

really?

among SGs Dwade is leading league this season with 1.3 blocks per game and last year with 1.34. No other SG averages 1……

This year only 2 SF’s average over 1 block per…. granger w/ exactly and kirilenko w/ 1.06. Last year only Lebron

infact you couldn’t be MORE wrong….. last year Lebron was #1 among SF’s w/ 1.15 blocks per game

honestly, did you even bother looking up the stats? Dwade leads all SGs and SFs last year and this year by a size-able margin. In fact even if you want to go blocks per 48… last year and this year he still lead all SGs by a size-able margin.

by tafkasam on Dec 8, 2009 8:37 PM PST reply actions

Last year, 3 years ago, 15 years ago

I am looking up stats that are relevant today a.k.a. 2009-2010 season stats

2009-2010

leading SGs ans SF’s in blocks… DWAYNE WADE by a sizeable margin champ

I want more "Ellis to the rim"

I just wish Monta would take it strong to the hole more often and attempt to posterize more people like D-Wade does. It just seems like anytime he’s in any sort of traffic in the air, he prefers to finesse it rather than dunk it. Other than the “Ellis to the rim” dunk over Leandro Barbosa, has he really had any other memorable posterizations? I think Monta has enough hops to be in a dunk contest. Anyone who has ever seen the rookies vs sophs game that he participated in a few years ago knows that he has some serious elevation skills. For whatever reason, he chooses not to use them much in a real game.

by 1rabidwarriorsfan on Dec 8, 2009 9:30 PM PST reply actions

he's not good enough to DUNK like that

dwade is taller, ALOT longer and stronger. Dwade mab e 6-4 but 215 lbs and a near 7-0 wing span makes him play like he’s 6-7

by tafkasam on Dec 8, 2009 9:31 PM PST up reply actions

Don't quote me on that

But I wouldn’t be surprised if Monta had higher vertical than Wade.

by Am22mO on Dec 8, 2009 11:13 PM PST up reply actions

it's possible BUT...

Vert isn’t the most important factor. Monta is 6-2 (he claims 6-3) w/ a small wing span. He can get up and dunk w/ the best little guys but his lack of strength and wingspan limit his ability to do so in a game, more so IN TRAFFIC. Wade has a monster wing span and is 1 of strongest 2guards in NBA. He may be 6-4, but his length (just looked it up… combine measure 6-10.75 WINGSPAN) is more comparable w/ a guy who is 6-7

by tafkasam on Dec 9, 2009 8:59 AM PST up reply actions

interestingly on the vert

Dwade vert 39 inches….

monta’s combine vert was 31.5 which is horrible and has to be inaccurate lol. I Remember in draft he was said to be unimpressive in combine.

Eitherway Dwade can get up ontop of his ridiculous physical attributes

by tafkasam on Dec 9, 2009 9:01 AM PST up reply actions

he had a great dunk

In the 45 point game. Two -handed, double clutch to get past a defender, flush. It looked like wasn’t going to get to the rim and he’d have to flip it in, but he just kept stretching out and got the dunk. He isn’t the leaper he used to be, or wade is, nor does he have his strength – but considering how many guys try to posterize people everytime down – Monta is a nice relief. He’s more of a throwback Gervin type around the bucket. I think he drives plenty – you need a mix of jumpers and drive and he does this – plus he plays so many minutes I want him to save his legs and not try to dunk each time down.
