A possible trade idea

The trade

Corey Maggette, Mikki Moore, Raja Bell, and Speedy Claxton to the Knicks for Wilson Chandler, Jared Jeffries, and Eddy Curry

Obviously this trade would have to happen after Mikki is allowed to be traded, and now why each does it.

Star-divide

Knicks: They need to clear cap space and Donnie Walsh knows it. This trade gives them over 10 million dollars extra in cap space for this upcoming free agent period. They are actually a contender to get Lebron and if they are able to do that, they may also be able to sign another star like a Bosh or Amare. Maggette is actually probally the best player in this deal even though most of us can't stand him and he would become their 6th man. They have become tired of Nate Robinson and are making him ride the pine.

Warriors: First off the Warriors get out of the real long term deal of Maggette and make most their contracts end in 2011.  Unless another Trade happens the only players the Warriors would have under Contract would be Ellis, Stephen Curry, Biedrins and whoever the lottery pick is this year. We would also for sure be done with Nelson and in position to actually change this culture of losing by the bay. Wilson Chandler is a solid player and Jared Jeffries would fit our style of play currently.

I try to find another team Maggette makes sense for and I couldn't.  And I would love to hear some comments on this trade idea.

to clear 11 mil for next year....

GOOD BYE WILSON! Personally I’d try to get gallinari. Right now they won’t be able to max offer 2 guys.

Dunno dude...

Why does Nate tie into this? Why do you say Jordan Hill and Mikki Moore? Why would they want Magette who plays SF like Lebron?

I’d do it. Any trade that dumps Maggette and doesn’t bring back any contract stretching past 2011 is worthwhile. Makes sense to me.

Ladies and gentlemen, your Golden State Worriers.

I agree. This trade would be Maggette and instant money relief for Wilson Chandler and delayed money relief. Chandler is younger than Maggette, but Maggette puts up similar numbers in less minutes. However, I think Chandler fits our style of play a bit better while Corey would give one role-playing veteran to a team that could add two all-stars in the offseason.

$$$$$

The Knicks would not take on Maggette’s contract. We may be able to through all of our expirings at them to get some of those players mentioned, but I don’t see them having any interest in taking Maggette’s contract.

The thing about the money

Is yes maggettes contract is bad, but Curry counts for more against the cap per year than maggette. The difference is it makes the Knicks bigger players in the free agent market this year which is exactly what they want.

The warriors on the other hand would be clearing a ton of space, in 2011 where we can decide to resign some warriors or possibly sign a free agent or two.

And the reason I brought up Nate was he used to be their 6th man, but D’antoni has grown tired of him and has him sitting on the bench. He is only on a 1 year contract and if they had maggette they wouldnt necessarilly resign him because they have the scoring off the bench already.

And someone said Maggette plays the same position, which is true, but Lebron would be the strarter and Maggette the back up who would fill both forward positions in the D’Antoni offense.

if they get lebron they won't care about maggette's length

He’ll be a great 6th man on a playoff team. He does what he does very well. Put him in a limited capacity he’ll excel, similar to Pietrus when he left (remember the hate GSoM gave him?!) or other 6th men like Jason Terry who enhanced there reputation.

Curry + Chandler 4 Maggs + expiring alone would save them: 3.8 mil in cap room next year. Putting there salaries entering 23.5 instead of 27.3 which is huge for them. It’ll put them about 30 mil under projected cap. Without this move they’d be at 26 under which means zero chance at 2 big name FA’s. (this is also assuming they don’t find someone to take Jefferies.

I kind of thought about this a bit.....

I’d love gallinari, they won’t send him. I Think Wilson Chandler is overrated.

What if we did a 3way with kings:

Warriors: Eddie Curry, Donte Greene, Francisco Garcia.
Kings: Wilson Chandler, Speedy or Raja
NYK: C.Mags, Devean, Mikki

Donte Greene is really improved this year, but Caspi has been better, they might jump a chance to unload Francisco whose game would suit us. (hits shoots efficiently, spaces floor, better passer than all our wings). Considering how they’ve been about Cisco, they’d love to dump the salary.
This would save Knicks over 2 mil in cap space next year, and I don’t think they care about maggette’s longevity. It’s all about signing 2 max players and this would help.

comparison

Chandlers TS%: Career .505, this year .484. both below average. Granted he’s best defender of bunch. I think adding him and losing our most efficient scorer (Mags) would actually make us worse.

Donte Greene: Horrible rookie year, but has a .604 TS%. He’s only 21. Has range, size, and seems to have matured
Cisco: Career .554 TS%, Been 40% from 3’s last 2 years.

Thre is basically no situation that I would be ok with bringing Eddy Curry on board this team. I don’t see how that makes sense at all. Maggette is a decent player, overpaid, but still useful. Curry is more overpaid, not useful, and a fat piece of crap, frankly. I don’t see how trading for absolute garbage helps the Warriors – it’s not like he even expires this year.

the only logic I see....

is if we get a nice piece of young talent attached to curry. I don’t regard Wilson Chandler that highly but maybe. Long term it’d be nice. We’d be looking at some good cap room in 2011 to woo Carmelo.

err sorry, more likely overpay someone again like mags

by tafkasam on Dec 11, 2009 11:40 AM PST up reply actions

How does this trade make the Warriors better?

Maggette is actually a good player. Yes, he’s overpaid, but I fail to see how trading a good overpaid player for a bad overpaid player improves the team.

The warriors need a plan

Now clearing space for 2011 and playing our younger players is what I view is the best option. We make this trade we lose more games this year, oh well the warriors are still not a playoff team even if they were healthy. The warriors being healthy is a joke to. Maggette is a solid player, but not what the warriors need now. He would be a great 6th man on a playoff team, but you need start with the starters to develop a squad. In fact by next year, I view Maggette as just taking time from KAZ who I would rather give the time to.

If somebody has a better plan, like adding the kings in the mix to the deal like above, I would love to hear it.

by Oracle Junkie on Dec 11, 2009 12:29 PM PST reply actions

Better plan – wait until you get an offer that isn’t complete garbage to deal Maggette. Expiring contracts this year is a better offer than anything involving Eddy Curry. Meanwhile, while we wait, we have a player in Maggette that’s actually productive for us, even if he’s overpaid a little bit.
