Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Head Coach Don Nelson to Appear Live on Warriors Radio Roundtable this Wednesday, February 11 at 9 P.M [Warriors.com]
Looks like you can either call into the KNBR or email Warriors radio shot caller Tim Roye with your Warriors quandaries and what not.

Since it's radio and not TV, I've got one question for Nellie- "Hey Coach what are you sippin' right now during the show?"

The first caller i hear with the question of:

“Nellie, How are you so great!?” with a follow up question of " How do you find the will power to coach those scrubs Mullin stuck you with?"
Is either Rowel, Riley , or Atma…..

my question

would be…

hey coach.. why do we draft from the d-leagues and the undrafted pool instead of drafting actual players properly?

I agree with Nuck

i think it was a good answer. Morrow have have started, but that might not mean he can finish a game. I understand Nellie’s paranoia for a young team learning to win. I can understand not wanting a devastating loss.

he said he was Billy

and he asked about Jack’s play for the past few games. Nellie answered with praise, saying great players can shoot, pass, rebound, and defend. He said Jack does them all, except rebounding is a bit weak. Them Tim said that Billy sounded familiar, and Jack revealed himself.

Nelson threw BWright under the bus?

Earlier a few people said that Don Nelson critized BW, saying he will never amount to much. I’m just curious if this is true or if anyone remembers exactly what he said

by Lincoln Logs on Feb 11, 2009 11:39 PM PST reply actions

That's an absurd misrepresentation. Here's what transpired:

He said that Randolph had more talent but he didn’t say anything negative about Wright at all. Not one thing. He also said that Wright is a PF and Randolph is going to be a SF.

Despite Randolph being stubborn and immature, he might have more raw talent, when you factor in all of his skills, than almost everybody on the team including Andris. So, to say this freakishly talented guy is more talented is more of a compliment to Randolph than a knock on Wright.

where have you seen proof of AR being Stubborn and immature?

Even bob Fitz said he was tired of hearing this. AR’s one of the nicest hardest working kids he’s seen. Even said he needs to stop looking for so much approval, when he’s on the court

Re: where have you seen proof of AR being Stubborn and immature?

Nelson said repeatedly for AR to get minutes he has to do the following:

1. Rebound
2. Defend
3. Run the floor (presumably to get transition buckets and offensive rebounds)
4. Nothing esle until told otherwise.

Things in addition to those things that AR does:

5. Take pull-up 17-footers
6. Tries to dribble up a rebound coast-to-coast when big men are supposed to dribble to just past half-court in this system.
7. Tries to make one-on-one moves which rarely results in anything but a turnover.
8. Tries to make rediculous passes.

Nelson says AR will get pminutes if he does 1-4. AR, who wants playing time continues to do 5-6. That’s Stubborness. Unless you want to make a case for a serious learning disability.

Nelson said last night that AR things he’s a great all-around player and that he is not one yet. We all can see that he’s not one yet. Everyone can see that except for AR. That’s immaturity.

AR wants to play

Don;t blame AR for taking a rebound end to end. Thats what Nellie has always

loved a big man who can take a rebound all the way. Your harsh for the kid being the youngest player in the whole league. Take note that every other teams GM has been drooling over his talent and the Knicks would give their left nut for him. Inmaturity? who the hell wans’t at 19? Come on, quit being a hater on a young talent who has superstar written all over him.

Re: Don;t blame AR for taking a rebound end to end. Thats what Nellie has always loved a big man who can take a rebound all the way

He can’t take it all the way with any consistency. None of the Warriors big men are supposed to. I think Andris has done it twice ever and I think maybe BWright has done it once. There is no C-Webb on this roster. Nelson has said that he likes the big men to dribble about to half court and give it up.

He also said specifically what he wanted Randolph to do and handling he ball like that was not one of them. He also said that he did not want Randolph doing anything other than what he specifically instructed him to do.

Your harsh for the kid being the youngest player in the whole league. Take note that every other teams GM has been drooling over his talent and the Knicks would give their left nut for him. Inmaturity? who the hell wans’t at 19?

I’m not saying he’s immature “for a 19-year-old”, he’s immature relative to his profession. That’s largely due to the fact that he is 19 and Nelson is possibly the first guy to try and actualy coach the guy to be a good, all-around basketball player. Or, if you’d rather, Nelson is likely the first guy to criticize him and not let AR do whatever AR wants.

The Knicks are not going to part with their left nut considering that it’s key role in all of the fantastic success they have achieved in the field of sexual harassment.

Come on, quit being a hater on a young talent who has superstar written all over him.

That’s exactly AR’s attitude and why he wasn’t playing. Do you think anyone in the Warriors organization or on this site doesn’t think this guy is freakishly talented? Do you think that we all don’t want him to be great?

I don’t want to get into defending Don Nelson because that’s a separate discussion, but he’s doing the right thing with Randolph. Nelson is trying to allow him to have success by doing the things he’s good at. When he masters those 3 things I mentioned above, he’ll add more to his plate. What happens on the court, 4 times out of 5, when AR strays from Nelson’s edict? Usually some disfigured lovechild of Mr. Turnover and Mrs. Brick.

Reduce your carbon footprint, commit suicide.
