Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

Monta is not back and Marco played one hell of a game.

I personally was at the game and for some reason i see Monta Ellis playing PATHETIC defense(not even effort to put up a hand) and terrible shooting. Basically contributing nothing, he still played a mind boggling 45 minutes. WHY? Watching him at this point in his recovery his athletism is above average for nba players. NOT GOOD ENOUGH for a player who relies on his quickness and explosiveness in all parts of the game. He did nothing and i was not suprised to find his +/- was very poor at around -15.

Getting to my point, i saw Marco play some pretty great movies. He helped out so much. Guardng Kobe, he did not let him score while guarding him. He hit two monster threes when the warriors had a huge drought at the start of the fourth. He had 4 assists. no turnovers. What else could he do? Play like monta? He played 15 minutes. He, not monta, should have been in the 4th quarter. I guarantee the warriors would have won that game had he played montas minutes. Monta played no defense, did not distribute, did not make shots (7-18) , could not hit any threes( watched him miss 2 or 3 in the key moments of the game). What could have taken him out of the game for old man nelson.... i dont know. What could marco have done to play more for old man nelson.... i do not know. Dont say this is valuable time for monta. He has not shown any improvement in his explosiveness except for maybe two games. Ridiculous. I screamed all game how bad the calls were, how bad kobe is, how bad faker fans are, but i look like an idiot when i support this team and they do this stuff everytime. This happened last year with worn out baron and jax and in the only games marco got played in he had 15 and 17. Nelson said his defense was holding him back but that was bull@#$@. I have seen Marco play better on ball D on this team than anyone else on this team. If anything, Marco's D is the reason he should be playing. Its just plain and simple to me right now. Nelson has something against Marco. Not his favorite i assume. Monta is last years Jack. Obviously this has far less serious ramifications with no playoffs on the line, but f this. I am a loyal paying fan in this economy and i want to see us kick kobe's ass. Marco is a fighter. He is a player. We need players like him and maggette and randolph on this team. People with that killer instinct who get to the line, get rebounds, play d(not always maggette ), get in the right spot at the right time, cut without the ball, score when given opportunity.

Star-divide

I am so mad at this point i dont care if you don't agree with me. Hey, Jax was hacking up some shots he shouldnt have taken or should have made but it was only when the other option was monta and jackson played some good d and he passed and drove. He had some turnovers but they were mainly positive attempts at passing or to driving players. plain and simple, people have said monta has been reason warriors are rising but mainly it has been a healthy and less pressured jack, turiaf stepping up his rebounds and post d, crawfords shot selection and enhanced passing, maggette as the sixth man, anthony randolph gobbling up rebounds while playing solid d and getting double digit points. none of it has to do with monta. i am very disapointed in monta right now. he really screwed up on his moped. i have not agreed with rowell on anything except this. void this dude if he is not 100% by the end of this season/start of next year. this is a joke.

the

only way monta can get better is if he plays. we’re paying him 11 mil… he better be playing.

so lose games in the process

i mean 45 minutes. those are developing minutes. those were the “nellie” minutes that he gives his favorites

A True Captain should know when to bow down & let fresher legs play better ball

Marco played one helluva game for the time he had. Nellie should’ve let him stay longer, rather than put a tired Cap’n’Jax in.

Marco is our pointguard. He has assists on his mind. Monta wants to score, let him naturally be the one to receive the ball. This saddens me. So much potential (marco/morrow), so little minutes played.

I think we'll see an increase in minutes

for marco as he gets healthy. especially if we can dump some players tomorrow to open up minutes.

I agree, though he had to all star break

I guess Don Nelson is still checking Marco’s Ankle and do not want to play him a lot of minutes for now

I will always be your fan JRich. Good Luck

so when monta first returned didnt he play like 35/40 minutes

so either old man nelson has a mancrush on jax and monta and/or he doesnt like marco. i remember he woldnt play him until we were down to him and marcus williams

marco

came back from an injury – so nellie was being cautious probably.

by mosdl on Feb 19, 2009 9:40 AM PST up reply actions

agreed

I love Marco’s aggressiveness on D, and he was being patient on offense too. He has improved so much at staying in front of guys without reaching or slapping, and he fights over screens really well! He and AR deserve ALOT of minutes coming up. I’m getting excited about the future of this team!!

It looks to me

like Marco’s playing is gonna earn him more time, but who knows what Don Nelson sees

again, Never doubted Marco

he definitely plays hard on D, and I feel sorry for him because they other player gets annoyed and elbows him or something, he does get hit a lot WHILE playing defense. Also he looks more like a PG to me

I will always be your fan JRich. Good Luck

by chili01 on Feb 19, 2009 9:14 AM PST reply actions

he’s played 12 games with no training camp mid season after 9 month layoff…. dont expect miracles…. next season ill judge him.

His scrappiness on loose balls gets us alot of points. He’s our best rebounding guard (and arguably behind beidrins, randolph) he gets them almost as regularly as maggette, jack….i’ll give him a pass on d last night considering lakers r a class of there own and offensively know each other so well….

marco-monta could be our backcourt of future, although neither r true point guards… if we have randolph who can play point forward, and a 3 who can handle a bit it might just work….. i prefer it to playing a PG for sake of playing a pg… not like we have derron williams or chris paul on the bench

i’ll definitely agree with you its frustrating though to wait

+1

Monta should play less or at least shoot less while he improves.

by mosdl on Feb 19, 2009 9:43 AM PST up reply actions

Monta better not gets ships out of like J-rich. I don’t really like the guy, but he is good when he is healthy.

by warriorfan4life on Feb 19, 2009 11:10 AM PST reply actions

is monta's knee 100% now i've noticed he hasn't been wearing his knee pad

and i’ll wait to judge monta until next season and let him make a transition back to old monta then next year let him focus more on being the pg he needs to be

by GSW9 on Feb 19, 2009 11:13 AM PST reply actions

Marco

With marco and cj, we have 2 pgs who can take that load from monta. And marco showed he can play, even after having been out for a while.

by mosdl on Feb 19, 2009 11:17 AM PST up reply actions

Monta sucked last night

If he plays like that the rest of the season he is going to be in danger of having that contract revoked or traded.

If he is still injured and Nellie knows it, I think Nellie is playing him to showcase him for trades. There is no point in playing him that much for the rest of the season considering how many games we have already lost

nellie's system

u play like crap, u get 40+ minutes. u play good, u get less than 20

by AJC3317 on Feb 19, 2009 11:24 AM PST reply actions

Spot on.........

I fully agree with this thread. I was saying to the guys around me last night, we totally controlled the Lakers with Randolph and Marco on the court. I was worried if Marco would have taken a big hit from his previous great form, but he came up big with a couple of clutch 3’s that kept us in the game.
So what does Nellie do?……. He keeps in Monta who was having a “NIGHTMARE” of a game, his head clearly was not in it and he takes off Marco and leaves in S-Jack!!!!!!!!! I am sorry but in a fast tempo game like that, we just cannot leave in STACK for 45 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!! wake the hell up Nellie, this is not Rocket Science!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everytime pre-game and halftime comes along, I just sit and watch Morrow…. that kid has the most amazing shot! It is just pure natural shooting ability…..

YET AGAIN…..coaching cost us the game last night. The Lakers played Zone in the first half and it was clear that was not working for them, so their “COACH” changed it up and started getting into our players faces and we lost rythme. They then hit a few big shots and then they were off!

When Ariza hit those two 3’s…..Nellie should have had Jackson and Monta off and had Marco and Morrow on the court to try and get those 6 points back again and fast! But no….he left in a cold hand and tired legs….wayyy to go Nellie….great choice.

I think we all saw the true potential of Randolph last night. This kid is going to be an energy player, he is going to feed of game atmosphere just like Marco does, I pray to god we do not trade him and would rather keep him over Brandon Wright.

When I discussed ankle injuries I said there was a chance Monta wont be 100% until the start of next year……I have to say, having watched last nights performance, this is looking more likely. His shot percentage is down, his effort on D is pathetic and he shows a stroppy spoiled child attitude when he is on the court and things are not going well for him. He DESPERATELY needs a mentor, he clearly needs someone that he admires to work with him on his shot to get that back and to work with him on his D…..

It’s a worrying day when Crawford seems to be showing more effort on D than Ellis…..that’s the day that someone nees to sit him down and have a very serious chat!

It's about heart, It's about fight, It's about being a Warrior!

reward people who give themselves non basketball injuries

and suck because of it and dont reward guys who work hard to get back from injuries they cant control. cj watson is better than moped ellis right now.

Monta has got to be....

one of the slowest mother f**kers in the game! I’m talkin slow as in dumb! not slow as in not fast because we all know how fast he is. Why the hell does that fool try to set up the offense so close to the half court line? It pisses me off when he does that and he tends to do that a lot of the time. That idiot is so careless with the basket ball that it’s plain comical. You have to laugh at how dumb he was when him and Crawford tried to pass to each other within 1 foot f eachother and ended up having another unforced turnover. That was probably the stupidest turnover I ever seen in my life. Monta needs to come back down to earth and humble himself a little bit. I think he still thinks in his mind that he is still the shit and right now all he’s doing is playing like shit. He has flashes every once in a while and i see improvement in his shooting but overall he’s been sucky lately! I don’t hate Monta whatsoever but I did lose a great deal of respect for him after the whole moped incident and if he’s planning on gaining the respect of the fans and this fan individually, then he better stop BS’ing and get back to where he was last season. I’m confident that he will but right now he’s getting the tough love treatment from me, basically because he single handedly ruined our season!

Jack and Crawford are a completely different story

I love Monta but he’s in my dog house right now until he can prove that he can lead this team. Just to clarify, I wasn’t knocking him on the amount of turnovers he had, i was knockin him for the fact that his turnover was probably the stupidest one that I’ve seen. come on, two guards all alone in the back court and Monta is supposed to be the man running the show, why would he give it to crawford (When he wasn’t expecting it) when he knows he’s the PG of this team. You got to admit that he is hella careless with the ball. I mean Jack and Crawford are too but that’s another story. I’m givin Monta this treatment because i think he needs to earn his respect back instead of thinking that he automatically gets respect after he comes back and especially after what he has done (stupid moped!)

he does lack confidence in his game...

but it looks like he still thinks he’s the shit! especially when he walks the ball up hella casually and plays hella casually..he’s gonna get better but I’m just givin him tough love as a fan.

Agreed

Marco is a balla. He is finding his rythym.

Can I just say… thank you? This is like 1 of like 10 actual Warriors basketball posts..lol.

Kind of refreshing it doesnt including one of the big three: Fire Rowel, Trade Everyone or I quit being a Warriors fan.

Good job!
