Houston, Phoenix out? Warriors In!
With the injuries to Tracy McGrady (out for season-knee surgery ) and Amare Stoudemire (out for 2 months-eye surgery), We have a shot to shock the world once again! With Biedrins coming back, We are gonna finally be at full force. There will be no more talk of the draft and possible lottery picks (because we always somehow manage to get a bad spot). There will only be that We Believe mantra from now on.
Now that the team is starting to get healthy, the feeling and mood has switched from "We're gonna get blown the f... out," to "We got a chance!" This season has to be one of the toughest seasons to watch as a Dubs fan. From being in the playoffs a couple years ago, to barely missing it due to the superior conference, to having no hope whatsoever, and NOW, to believing we have a good shot to win each game.
Without Amare, the Suns have no chance of that run & gun style, especially with Shaq on board. Without McGrady, Houston will be on a steady decline, especially with Rafer Alston leaving them also.
This is our time...........
We Believe................... Hopefully???????

Only if Nellie.....
recognizes the hot hand that is playing and takes off the cold hand, until he does this, we dont stand a hope in hell!
BUT……. IF… he recognizes tired legs and lets our Young Guns start really going at these teams….then just maybe….just maybe…….The YELLOW will be back in town!!
It's about heart, It's about fight, It's about being a Warrior!

No
It doesnt really matter what Nellie does or doesnt do. We are too much of a hole at the moment.
Lets go ahead and count the Suns out(since they are the 9th seed at the moment) just to help you out.
That leaves us behind Utah, the 8th seed, by 13 games and behind Houston the 6th seed, 14.5 games.
We have played 55 games (with a record of 19-36) with 27 games left to play. Even if Utah and Houston ccrumble down the stretch, we would have to go something like 23-4 to have a shot at the 8th spot. That would be about a 85 winning pct.
We will probably need to be patient and let this season play out.

i doubt utah finishes 5th seed. they've got like 27 games left and something like 18 are on the road...
they are a godawful road team…not as bad as the warriors, but for such a good home team. they’re terrible

I think we have a shot
…at 9th place at the very least.
It’d take a miracle finish ala 2007 to get back in. Not saying it can’t happen, just unlikely.

do you want the 9th spot?
Haha, to maintain the mediocrity?
Now wheres the rubbers? Whose got the rubbers?
I noticed there's so many of them
and there's really not that many of us.

to see us win! Skeptic, your not yourself. Rarely do you say something so silly.

like I've said before
when I sit down to watch each game I root for the team to win, but big picture I’m rooting for the team to finish in the bottom 5.

No way
does Houston drop out. They still have Yao and Artest and some pretty talented young guys.
Utah is going to make a run once Boozer gets back. They just beat Boston last night. They’ll most likely take the 5th or 6th seed.
Only question is if Dallas can hold on without Terry coming off the bench. They probably can.
Warriors don’t have a chance (un)fortunately.
by disguy on Feb 20, 2009 12:14 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
Artest is a cancer and they have trying to dump him.
They also dump their experienced point guard for an unknown in Lowry? They are a sinking ship!
by dungeness crabdribble on Feb 20, 2009 1:01 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
meh
I dont think they were trying to dump Artest as much as they were trying to add Vince Carter or another better piece. Artest isnt the player he was 4 or 5 years agao. The Alston move is a bit confusing after the TMac injury, but they like Aaron Brooks a lot and feel he’s ready to be the starter so they may as well get rid of Alston’s salary for a younger guy who plays better D.

lowry
isn’t that much of an unknown. he’s a good young point guard. he’s a slight downgrade from alston, but not a huge one.

and he’s younger and cheaper. And they like Aaron Brooks (and it appears they were correct about Brooks, check out that stat line from last night!)

Sadly
Houston does not seem to be any better with McGrady than without him.
I’m hoping for the 9 spot. Why tank? So we can add another young player (there’s no KD this draft) to the youngest team in the league? Screw that. Don’t play for the lottery. Play for the fans and season ticket holders. I’d rather see us finish the season 25-5 than get a high draft pick.

I do hope nellie starts playing more young uns though. They’ve all shown they are worthy of some playing time. Marco to let sjax rest, cj to let monta rest, perhaps morrow to let jamal rest?
The 4 position will remain tricky – who starts it, who backs it up etc. The 5 is obviously beans/turiaf/ar/davidson.

why, why would you root to not make the playoffs AND get a mediocre draft pick? There may not be a Durant but that doesnt mean that a guy in the top 5 arent more likely to be better than the guys in the 12-13 range. Not to mention how much more trade value a top 5 pick would have.

Do we need a 5-10 pick?
In this draft? Anthony Randolph, Marco Belinelli and Brandan Wright all have as much potential as the 5-10 players in this draft.
we can’t sit here every year and say “let’s draft someone to make us better.” WE’RE THE YOUNGEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE.
Will we make the playoffs this year? almost positively not. but it’s time to start making the playoffs NEXT YEAR.
And you can’t make the playoffs without learning how to win. I hate to break it to people, but we’re a lot further from the playoffs than a #7 pick in a crappy draft. We’d be much better off learning how to play basketball.
by bradyk2 on Feb 20, 2009 5:03 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Exactly right
Its beyond moronic and a sign of a pretty bad fan in all honesty to say you are actually rooting for your supposed favorite team to lose as many games as possible. Are future is much better off if we learn how to win now, because even if we had the worse record in the league we all know we would still somehow not get the first pick so why tank it when there isnt even a Lebron James or any 100 percent lock of a superstar in the draft coming up. Id love Blake Griffin but that isnt happening so we might as well win as many games as we can.

more games like the Laker game!!! 3 solid quarters against an elite team, some good play by the young guys and then a loss to improve our lottery odds.

false
Belinelli and Wright have more potential as Georgetown’s Monroe? Are you joking? We are the youngest team in the league, but we’re also not a very good team. I hope the young guys can all get better, but even if they do thats not gonna get us anywhere near being a contender. You know who the second youngest team in the league is? Portland. And they are light years ahead of us, while only being about an average of 3 months older. This team does need at least one more very good piece. We are much more likely to be able to get that piece by landing the #5 pick than the #13 pick. That learn how to win stuff is a load of crap. Teams with good players just win, they dont learn how, they just do it.

Definitley no realistic shot at playoffs
but you can always hope. Anyways, I dont think anyone here actually wants to see the warriors tank. But come the last 10 games of the year, it would be wise to sit the vets and just let the young guys play. In this way, we allow our young guys to get some solid experience and a chance to learn how to play through mistakes. We dont risk losing one of our vets to a freak injury (see Amare, Arenas), and it only helps our odds of getting a decent lotto pick. I can certainly agree that we dont need another young project, but if the balls fall in our favor (yeah right) then we may have a shot at a young guy who we just cant pass up or have a nice trading chip when looking to improve during the offseason.
Like Warriorsscore said above, we’re just too deep in a hole to think about the 8th spot, but that doesnt mean we need to stop competing every night. As it stands now, every time the warriors are in a close game, they seem to experience some type of 4th Q meltdown (see Lakers, Cavs, Spurs). It sucks but its a great learning opportunity for such a young team. The trade deadline has past and we have some nice young players to work with…might as well see what we’ve got for a few games and then let the young guys get some game time

sorry to burst your bubble
but sadly the Warriors are not going to make it to the playoffs this year. It is possible, but highly highly unlikely and given the Warriors luck there’s pretty much a zero possibility. I wish they could and I hope they could but I’ve already accepted the fact that they won’t. Like I say every season (except the “We Believe Playoff” season), “maybe next year!”

No Way dude
Now don’t get me wrong. I would love to sneak into the playoffs. And although our chances are almost gone, I’m still believing until we actually get matematically elminated. However, Suns… Maybe. Rockets… They’ll still be good. Brooks is even better than Skip to my Lou. That’s why they traded him. Yao and Ron-Ron along with their core will still be a good team.

is what it will take for both these teams to fall so far that the warriors pass them up but I believe I will until it’s mathematically possibly

if we had gone 7-0 on that homestand, had those buzzer-beater not gone in, and the kings game, as well as the spurs and the lakers, we could be looking at dangerous team with so much belief…..but whatever 2009-2010 CHAMPS BABY!

funny
last year yao went out and everyone was clamoring that the rockets had no shot had making the playoffs. 22 games later everyone had long since shut up.
bottom line is that the warriors are not making the playoffs

wait a second...
I feel bad for him and all but I just read that Amare may be out for the season. This could open up the possibility of making the playoffs a little bit more. If the warriors could get hot and make the playoffs that would be incredible! I said that the Warriors weren’t gonna make it and now i’m kind of 85-15 that they won’t. There is a glimmer of hope!

small, small chance
but not inconceivable. Utah is out of reach and only if Phoenix was still under Porter, but aim at Dallas and we may be within a few deciding games of making it. The Warriors would have to be near perfect down the stretch or a major slippage between Dallas or Phoenix would have to happen, but it’s a nice thought to keep in mind.

I would count any team out at this point
Look at all the key injuries already this year. Garnett, Amare, Oden, Bozer, Bynum…on and on and on….some of the best players have gone down recently.
If a few more have trouble more top teams could drop a lot of games down the stretch while holding players back to get healthy for the playoffs.
9th place is probably most probable, but we could sneak in
