Monta Ellis Unhappy......

I was at the game against OKC and witnessed first hand from what I thought was bad attitude from Monta Ellis.

Now, I don't know how serious this is, so i'm not going to jump to any conclusions but here is what happened:

At around 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Don Nelson sent C.J. Watson to the scorer's table.  As soon as C.J. entered the floor and pointed at Monta, Monta swung his body in disgust that he was being taken out.  The following 2 timeouts that followed, Monta remianed at the end of the bench by him self while everyone was in the huddle.  In addition, every nice play that the Warriors had, Monta showed no interest.  During these timeouts a couple people on the staff would come up and talk to him and pat him on the back while Monta shook his head.  With about 3-4 mintues left, Monta walked off the bench and into the locker room.

Now, Monta may have a minor injury that we don't know about because he was on the bicycle during the second quarter in the tunnel.  However, even if he was ailing with something, you'd think he'd stay on the bench and watch the team win and see Nelson get is 1300th win.  What do you guys feel about this?

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

hes just really anxious to play. i don’t think he’s necessarily “unhappy”. a better term may be that he’s frustrated.

um

players don’t like it when their benched, it happens.

I'd wait until there's a trend

this might be a one time thing, something specific to something that happened in this game. If we see more of this in upcoming games, then I’d start worrying.

I noticed nellie take him out too

and he never went back in… honestly i could care less he didn’t seem to be making a big difference out there.

Hey, you know, i never noticed Monta wasn't in

for the last half of the 4th. With such a deep team, taking someone out isn’t as noticeable.

by IQofaWarrior on Feb 22, 2009 12:51 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

WHAT...

he had five steals and was shooting pretty good from the field. He had a quick 14 points. He would’ve had more if maggette stopped hogging. He really just wants to play more minutes so let him.

by Richboievans on Feb 22, 2009 5:35 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I would’ve sat Monta in favor of C.J. as well.

The big difference in Monta and CJ

is consistency. They’re both emotion-less most of the time and are cool under pressure but Monta is still not the Monta of last season or maybe we expected too much out of him. All I know is that when Watson came in, Azubuike started to get hot, and we won. Monta missed a 3 pointer that was wide open——one the CJ maybe would have made

by warriorgirl on Feb 22, 2009 1:46 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

please

don’t trade monta.i never really a fan of him, but all he needs is one healthy yr, than he will be back to his old forms.

by warriorfan4life on Feb 22, 2009 2:35 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

i have heard of monta doing this

3 – 4 times now, so it looks like it may be turning into a trend, which is unfortunate. the last thing we need is something like this.

by jchao204 on Feb 22, 2009 3:34 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Maggette does the same thing...

He never gets excited off a good play when on the bench. Monta always got excited last year because he got his minutes.

he was 2 for 2 from three in the laker game and 1 for 2 in the first half last night and then never really saw time in the 2nd half.

Monta's just turing into an all-out thug now

Tatted up and rebelling against the coach. The money and skills got to his head.

Nelly made the right decision benching him

We would have lost if Monta was playing. Right when CJ came in he scored like what? 8 points or something like that? When Monta was out there in the 4th OKC wouldnt even guard Monta when he was staying outside the 3 pt lane and it pretty much made the offense stagnant.

by bojangles408 on Feb 22, 2009 10:15 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

your thinking of buikes points in the 4th

monta was hitting his jumpers and looked quick.he really seemed into this game.in pre game he was all fired up.i was mad when he was taken out as well.he was good on d aswell with 5 steals.i think he wanted to take more shots because he knew they were going in last night

by nateoak10 on Feb 22, 2009 10:56 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Buike and CJ

both scored big in the 4th.

The last 3 or 4 games Monta has not been playing well. Frankly, he’s been playing like Randolph was in those early season games. Just playing the game to showcase himself.

When Monta start shooting 50% from the field again – THEN he can bitch if Nellie benches him.

The next 2 months of the season are THE most important for the future of the Warriors. Nellie has to find out who’s in and who’s out because Draft Day is going to be a revolving door of players.

monta looked real good last night though i just think hes not gettig involved enough

let him play himself into the player he once was.personally i think the more touches crawford gets the less touches for monta

Maybe he's having some offcourt problems

Maybe he’s having some off court problems that were getting to his head during the game. Or, he probably could have just been acting like that because of frustration. People tend to act like a bitch every once in a while if things get incredibly frustrating. In some cases, frustration can be a good thing because it means that the person cares about whatever it is he’s frustrated about and is determined to get better. If he’s mad because he sucks and can’t nail shots anymore, then he’ll start practicing hard until we see the old/real Monta back.

You mean like somebody threatening to void his contract?

It’s hard to perform if they don’t let you. That said, I do like CJ on the occasional clutch matchup.

Monta has always been confident in his skills. When he wasn’t making any money this was seen as him being hungry, but now that he has money he is a “thug?” As everything going “to his head?”

None of us know the situation between Monta and the Warriors. He could be pissed off with the team, or he could have a nagging injury, and be pissed at his luck this season. Or it could be something else. Watching from the sidelines and drawing conclusions is dangerous because it could easily lead to an incorrect one that damages Monta’s reputation and eventually has actual image consequences.

If something is going on and it should be made public, it will. If it is a minor dispute or something unrelated, then it should not come out and it is not our place to really judge what is going on.

Remember it’s a job for these guys so there’s no reason for Montay to hang around if he knows he’s done for the night. He could have been tired or tweaked a bit so his reaction is normal. Don’t worry about Montay, he’s not the problem, too many shooting guards and stickmen bigs is our problem.

i was at the game

and i thought played pretty well; i could see he was starting to get back his burst of speed, and his deadly jumper that has been nonexistent this season was on. I think watson is great but if i was monta i would be pissed if i was benched like that.

monta is just a kid

and so are you for posting this nonsense

by cliffordROZIER'sface on Feb 22, 2009 1:04 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Sorry but what?

What basis do you have to call the poster a kid? He obviously saw something was off and wanted to discuss it with other fans. I would also be questioning why he would be the only one not willing to join the huddle, and if any other fan had any incite as to whether this was a recurring incident I’m sure many fans would like to know.

by GoldenStateGuerrero on Feb 22, 2009 1:34 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

this is not a discussion...more of another worry than anything else

if you enjoy defending a fans insecurity, you are just as bad…as for monta, you gotta let the kid go through his phases physically and emotionally…these are signs of a true competitor and nothing else

by cliffordROZIER'sface on Feb 22, 2009 8:20 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

As of posting this...

There are 54 replies. I think that very much constitutes a discussion. Do not call me insecure based off of one post. You don’t know me. You just further proved that you make more assumptions and judgments than the poster did who simply wanted to know how others felt about the situation. It was an observation that he felt had enough substance to want to talk to other fans about it and so far many people are replying without being condescending.

by GoldenStateGuerrero on Feb 22, 2009 10:40 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

show me substance about this "discussion"

rather than the “substance” in your defense of the poster…if you understand the mind of a 23 yr old, you’d hold back your brainwashed argumentative “skills”

by cliffordROZIER'sface on Feb 23, 2009 2:04 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Hey, I've got an idea...

If you don’t find this topic interesting then how about you move on to another post instead of insulting the poster.

For the record the poster was very reasonable in relaying his observation without jumping to conclusions. And sure enough, we found out soon after that Monta is going to be missing more time due to his ankle being injured. So he did in fact pick up on what was going on during the game when Monta was showing some frustration as he was taken out and remaining frustrated as he sat on the bench knowing that his ankle was giving him trouble again.

What player (who's not tired) has never been upset when your coach takes you out of the game?

That’s just how it is: it comes from frustration of a poor performance, and frustration that the coach had to take you out cuz you weren’t being productive. That’s normal.

On another note, I notice that Marco is becoming (or returning) the invisible man on the court, just like Anthony Morrow was. Player egos (jax, monta, mags) have undermined both of these guys’ talents. Why even put Morrow in if you won’t pass him the ball? Watching last night, I remember jax (?) or someone passing the ball to Monta to make a 3 pointer when Belinelli was wide open. WIDE OPEN. That’s just ridiculous.

by DubCurse on Feb 22, 2009 4:48 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Is it just me,

or has Monte become a real prick?

His attitude has sucked since the beginning of the season — when he was called out for being a lying little brat.

He tosses his arm bands on the floor, scowls at everyone, and walks away from people while they’re speaking to him.

His first season he was all “yes sir, no sir,” which I could live with out. I don’t need the whole southern schtick, just try not project such an awful attitude.

by Jeremy Belvins on Feb 22, 2009 6:39 PM PST reply actions   1 recs

I just rewatched that part of the game

On the play before Monta got subbed out, the Warriors were on defense, and the Thunder had just missed a shot and the Warriors were trying to get the rebound. The Warriors tipped the ball and it landed in the hands of a Thunder player in the middle of the paint who then scored a basket in with a floater. That Thunder player was whom Monta was guarding during that possession. It would not surprise me if Nellie pulled Monta out for not staying with his man during the rebound.

by IQofaWarrior on Feb 22, 2009 10:38 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Wow, this is classic overreaction and misinformation

It obvious that he is still hurting and you post this? You should pull this post it really looks dumb now that the real story is out.

by dungeness crabdribble on Feb 23, 2009 7:38 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

thanks for the link.

I think Monta just gets really frustrated with himself. I don’t think he’s unhappy, i think he just hates coming out of the game and may not necessarily agree with nelson’s rotations. When someone is clearly “rolling”, Nelson, for whatever reason, decides to sit that player time and time again. I’ve seen it happen hella times already. It’s nothing new. But I don’t think it was a big deal, just kind of the heat of the moment thing for Monta to react like that. At least, I hope it ain’t a big deal.

I hop up out the bed, turn my swag on and then do the stanky leg...yeaaaaahhh I'm gettin' Arab money!!

OKAY, AS THE POSTER......

I realize now that he is hurt. I am sorry, but I just wrote what I saw. I also DID NOT leave an injury out of the question when I wrote this. I wasn’t trying to speculate anything. So again, I am sorry but this is what I saw because I sat right near the Warriors bench during the game.

by Carmelballin on Feb 23, 2009 4:24 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

No need...

to apologize. Your title may have been a little leading, but I think you were pretty fair in what you wrote. You didn’t jump to conclusions or push a conspiracy theory or anything like that.

In fact I think the fact that he was injured gives this post more credibility because you picked up on his frustration before anything was announced.

Thing 2

by olympicmike on Feb 23, 2009 4:35 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Now time to talk about the next issue....

That is, is Monta going to be able to continue to play on a high level on that injured ankle? On one hand, he’s just been back and getting some soreness seems reasonable. On the other hand, they’re talking several weeks, and he he’s been playing managable minutes.

Obviously nobody at this point knows. And while many may say it’s too early to think/worry about it, I would counter that with the glut of 2 guards and the $ owed, the W’s need to be thinking about this right now. Again, they have reserved the right to void his contract. If he has continued problems staying healthy and playing on that ankle, given the current economy and salary cap, I think they could feel pressure to void.

It would be aweful if a good kid made one silly mistake and it ruined his career.
