WHO ARE YA!?!

OK...this will not be the longest thread in GSOM history but seeing as we do not have it anywhere I thought we could put this up there for people maybe to say hello or wave!?!

As with most boards, no one knows who anyone is or where they sit, so I am starting this which hopefully people will "rec" to keep it visible for people as there is no way it seems to make a post "sticky" per se.

So if you are a Season ticket holder and on GSOM, let us know below as some of us may be sitting 20 feet away from each other and not have a clue!

I'll kick off:

BritWarriorGSW - Section 204 - Row 3

The 6'4", 225lb English bloke that keeps jumping up in front of you and howling at the refs! :)

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Sec 106 - row 21

Not a bad spot to be in. Had seats in 109 right behind Atma and FantasyJunkie last season.

A Sonics fan without a team.. Though I'm auditioning GS Warriors this season.

SEC 105, ROW 9

I’m the one of only a few in Sec 105 that gets loud! And I have this annoying whistle that erks the people in front of me! Hate that sh*t! It’s like “I’m sorry, I didn’t know I was supposed to be quiet when the opponents are shooting their freethrows!”

Anyway, if you sit in the same section and like to yell, you’ll be welcomed by me w/ open arms!

Geeez Louf*ckingweeez!!!

HAHA

See what kind of idiocy I have to put up w/! But the whole standing up thing happens throughout the whole arena! People do like to get up when the Warriors are on D, but when the team scores, they all sit down! I think there is some sort of etiquette when standing up, but if you’re not the only one, then f*ck that dood!

There’s one guy in my Section that likes to get people to stand up and just for fun, I make the motion for people to stay seated! hahaha

QUESTION

Saving the money aside…do you regret giving them up? Guess you figure you could always get seats, but it’s hard to know when they’re going to get good and then have to try and get seats that are as good as the ones you had before if not better.

Question for all you game-attenders:

Do you like going to the game or watching in Hi-Def better?

What’s better about being there live?

I’m actually partial to TV so I can see in more detail and hear Jim Barnett drop his science.

GOING TO THE GAME

I have my own personal opinions about attending the 4 major sports in the Bay Area:

1. Basketball: LIVE – The action is non-stop and since the Arena isn’t that big, you really get into the action! It’s definitely not the same watching it on TV. You don’t get to feel the energy!

2. Hockey: LIVE – Actually never have been to a game, but you can just tell by watching it on TV that it’s fun to be there! Just like basketball it’s non-stop action so you really get into it when you’re there than when you’re just watching it on TV.

3. Baseball: LIVE – It’s not the most exciting sport to watch on either TV or live, but at least when you’re live you can drink and check out chicks and stuff like that. Maybe if there was some in-house commentating it would make it more fun and then I’d probably pay more attention while I was there.

4. Football: TV – Probably the worst sport to attend. Unless you have like 50 yard line seats, it sucks to be sitting on one end of the field. You just can’t see what’s going on since the field is so big. It’s also more fun when you can drink and have pizza while watching the game on a big screen TV w/ your friends and family.

So let me ask you this…Would you have rather watched the Warriors during the playoffs on a nice big screen HD TV or at the Arena?

Geeez Louf*ckingweeez!!!

Baseball: RADIO

I think baseball is one of the few sports that the best on the radio.

Baseball: RADIO

Fantasy league is a good way to follow baseball, the glacial speed is useful for making player decisions and the number of games per season averages out the errors.

Now wheres the rubbers? Whose got the rubbers?

by Skeptic con Urquell on Feb 9, 2009 5:43 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

there is nothing like a live game

If you ever saw your fav band in concert and they totally blew you away you will understand, live events are just fun, HDTV on my 50" is awsome but its a totally different experance, I also have like 600+ CDs but live music is a totally different feel.

As to the other Q. Season tix are cool becuse you getto go to a lot of games but now that I only go a few times a year I get way better seats so its a trade off.

And as far as listening to Barnett, I’ve seen guys at Giants games with ear pieces in so they can catch the radio feed, you could maybe do the same thing with a TV feed.

by qin on Feb 5, 2009 3:58 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

If I had to listen to Mike Krukow and be at a Giants game at the same time I might implode

I agree that live music is better than a CD if the music is somewhat up-tempo. I have actually had the good fortune of opening up for one of my favorite bands a couple of times.

But some bands are better live than others whereas sports are always better for me on TV because I can see plays better, especially balls and strikes.

ROARACLE..........!!!

When the house is jumping……it’s loud……

It does not matter what resolution the picture is on the TV, you never truly get that “hairs standing up on the back of your neck” atmosphere that the fans in Oakland create….

Applause to all of us for making this the loudest house in the NBA!!!

Channel 419 on Dish network, sound usually muted to avoid having to listen to Giggles Fitzgerald make it sound like the only reason the team is in the crapper is because of all the bad calls and just a few lucky bounces.

by jae on Feb 5, 2009 4:13 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Bob's been laying into the team a bit lately

I agree that he’s a bit of a homer and so does he:

Most local broadcasters would recoil against being labeled a “homer.” Not Bob Fitzgerald, a Chicago native who broadcasts the Warriors’ games on TV.

“So a guy is a homer, so what?” he said. “You live with these guys (the players). You care about them and their families. You wouldn’t be human if you didn’t care about them.”

He said his support for the Warriors doesn’t stop him from criticizing their play. “If players are not getting back on defense, you have every right to be critical,” he said.

Maybe he’s being a bit more critical because of that article. He annoys me a lot less now than he did during his first few years. That said, Greg Papa and Jim Barnett were the best announcing team I’ve ever heard do basketball. Tim Roye is Excellent as well minus the idiotic “elevation sensation” which is equivilent to saying “yes, I am that white”.

Barnett is as objective in his analysis as he is completely inflexible in his idea that there is a “right way and a wrong way” to do something on the basketball court. He’s clearly rooting for the Warriors but his analysis of individual plays are very objective, clear and thorough.

I don’t mind his radio show. He’s honest and insightful there. But on the broadcast, he’s more than just a homer. He really makes it sound like the only thing that differentiates the Warriors and the league champs are some bad calls by the officials.

the energy

You can’t experience the energy that the crowd brings from your couch. That’s what I love about going to the games and watching them live.

I'm probably the loudest fan in the UPPER LEVEL

You can’t miss me.

Ever see the ALMEDA jersey around the arena?

I’m at Section 208, Row DS, Seats 15-16

I start a lot of Let’s Go Warriors Chants, yelling Defense when we don’t play any etc. Haha. First person to visit me at the next game (UTAH) I’ll allow to sit next to me. (I literally own that section… you’ll see).

There should be some sort of sign...

The peeps on GSOM should all try and figure out some outlandish plan to some way represent at a certain point in the game. I think that it would be cool. Just have everyone who is a member stand up and throw up a flying W or something…lol..Yeah I know sounds retarded but I think it would be hysterical.

It would be a protest symbolizing what Cohan has done to a once proudly mediocre Bay Area franchise.

and i bring my three hundred pound mexican friend who, when he yells, the plays actually look at him. I think kurz purposely doesnt come to that side of the court when he is shooting because he doesnt like being called “little lost irish kid”

Or maybe we can burn the rest of our Season Tix booklets...

That way we can stay away from the 3rd degree burns and still give Cohan and Rowell a signal of what is to come next year unless some moves are made…

Usually in my living room on my comfy couch in Union City

Occasionally i’ll hit up a game in the upper levels and maybe once or twice a season i’ll spring for lower bowl seats.

I pray i never have to use a gun again...

...unless i'm at a strip club parking lot...

...and somebody tries to run me over with their car...

...But how often does that happen??

Which do you prefer?

Does Union City still claim to be the “Gateway to Silicon Valley”? Someone should tell them that Union City is the Gateway to Fremont which is the gateway to Milpitas which is the gateway to Silicon Valley.

"Gateway to Silicon Valley"

With as many bumps and bruises that SiliValley and the tech industry has been and is enduring lately, i’m not sure if that nickname invokes much pride anymore. Seems lately we’re more famous for having our own Walmart and a 9/11 memorial that nobody knows about.
