would you help a nemesis to help yourself?

Yes that nemesis would be the hated LA lakers, and no we're not getting Kobe Bryant.  Instead we're sending them 3 Los Angelenos: Corey Maggette, Ronny Turiaf and Marcus Williams.

With Bynum's injury the Lakers are obviously in need of someone to patrol the middle and for a team with Championship aspirations, they need to fill in that void quick, and who better fill that role but with someone who is familiar on how things are done over in LA, Ronny Turiaf.

Who are we getting?  Well how about the prototype Nellie all everything player: Lamar Odom.  Can you imagine this guy playing for Nellie?  He would be a beast unleashed!  And this is where Maggette comes into play.  He fills the starting small forward slot for Los Angeles.

As for Williams?  well maybe he could carry Kobe's jock or if he's not worthy maybe The Machine's jock instead?

By the way, were also getting one of the original we believers Josh Powell and just for everyone who's salivating for an Asian here in the Asian rich population of the Bay Area, how about some Sun Yue?

Warriors recieve:

Lamar Odom

Josh Powell

Sun Yue

LA Lakers recieve:

Corey Maggette

Ronny Turiaf (sigh)

Marcus Williams

Obviously its a bitch to lose Turiaf but if he is what it takes to get rid of that monster of a contract Maggette possesses, so be it.  And if Lamar doesnt pan out?  well he is an expiring contract and that alone should be worth it.

Now let the flame wars begin!

no...

“accept” the turiaf part. accept it! it’s hard but you must! as you are fond of saying, sam, good players don’t come for free.

oh ok

ha, that actually that does make sense when you put it like that :) I didnt know I was fond of saying “good players dont come for free” but it sounds good and true so I’ll except you attributing that statement to me.

not crying over losing Turiaf (!) but how do you figure?

LA gives up the best player in the deal to add a backup C, plus a SF who doesn’t fit the triangle offense and who would take a ton of shots from Kobe & Gasol – not to mention LA made the Finals last year w/ roughly the same roster they have now

Even if Odom leaves at season’s end, they’d hang on to him for a shot at returning to the finals, and then Bynum is back for next year and they’d not be saddled with Maggette’s contract. Just don’t see how or why LA would entertain your deal

by hardcore on Feb 6, 2009 10:15 PM PST reply actions

if

you replaced Maggette with Crawford and threw in one of Marco, Wright, or Randolph I think they’d have to consider it. If you replaced Maggette with Jackson, I think theyd do it instantly because Jackson brings the exact combination of toughness, outside shooting ability and defensive willingness they need at the 3. Right now they have Walton, Radmonovic, and Ariza who all basically provide only one of those qualities, but Jackson brings all 3 in one package. I know dealing Jackson for a guy who could walk at the end of the year could be a tough pill to swallow for Warriors fans, but I think the inclusion of Jackson and LA’s desperation to win this year could possibly convince them to take on Crawford or Maggette in addition to Jackson.

However, I dont think they’d be as eager to take Turiaf back as we all think they would be. Powell has done a great job of filling Turiaf’s old role……in fact, a good enough job that there probably shouldnt be quite as much Turiaf love around here as there is considering that it appears we already had a guy who was capable of filling the same role for much much cheaper.

if you replaced Maggette with Crawford and threw in one of Marco, Wright, or Randolph

then we’d have a very different trade … and if I were Phil Jackson, I’d still decline … they don’t need Crawford, Marco and Wright are not upgrades over their bench currently (I particularly like Ariza’s potential – he looks solid) not to mention they’re not even suiting up, and Randolph is a total crap-shoot from LAL perspective …

by hardcore on Feb 7, 2009 9:40 AM PST up reply actions

Yea I know it would be a very different trade, I was just saying theyd think about it. They dont NEED Crawford, but they dont really NEED anyone to be perfectly honest. They dont NEED Lamar Odom either. They certainly could use Crawford though as he could relieve the 1,2 or 3 (with Kobe sliding over to the 3) I like Ariza too, but I think enough people around the league are liking him now that he could price himself out of LA at the end of the year. Marco is a clear upgrade over half their bench right now, and they dont have any real young guys with the potential to be starters outside of Ariza and Farmar so I think theyd have some interest in Wright or Randolph.

w/Bynm out, they need Odom more than ever – there’s very little if anything we have to offer that would be of more interest to LAL for him – the rest is just irrelevant

by hardcore on Feb 7, 2009 4:29 PM PST up reply actions

Jackson

would obviously be of more interest to them. They need more D and more toughness. Itd be a little toughner now that theyve dealt Rad for a guy who cant play the 4, but I think theyd still prefer Jackson.

cannot imagine LAL making an Odom-Jackson deal in any permutation

by hardcore on Feb 8, 2009 8:13 AM PST up reply actions

Jackson/Turiaf for Odom? I dont think theyd think twice about that

Well, they are high on Ariza

and if they let Odom walk, they might still be a championship caliber team and they would be under the luxary tax.

We will probably need to be patient and let this season play out.

- dont think theyd think twice about that?!

right, they wouldn’t even consider it once … check out what the Lakers just accomplished this weekend, and ask whether they’d rather have Odom or not

Same I like this deal but if we can throw in one of my other big men... randolph or wright?

We obviously won’t keep both in the future with Biedrins and our small-ball

While his value seems to be high, I’d trade Jax, BW and/or Bellinelli for Odom and Ariza or Bosh or Amare. We need to solidify the front court. Having AB and Turiaf is a good start.

On another note, people seem to overrate Millsap…and most of them appear to be GS fans. Why? Millsap and his likes (such as Landry and Brandon Bass) seem to have career highs only because they play against the Micro Warriors. Any mediocre player licks his chops when they see the Ws on their calendar. Heck, if Zorgon plays against the Ws, he’d play like a superstar.

Lamar Odom in the Bay!? the dude would never leave his house gettin just straight zoooted! He’d be failing illegal substance tests all season…

Maggette is negative trade value,

can Warrior fans please understand that. We would have to pay someone(with Wright, AR, Marco, etc) to take him off our hands. No one is giving up a good player that is an expiring contract for him.

We will probably need to be patient and let this season play out.
