Has anyone considered this possible reason for Monta being unhappy?...

If Monta's claim that he went home to Jackson, MS to tend to family matters is true, that means he has a serious family situation going on. If this story is true, and his mom is indeed sick enough that he went home to see a doctor with her, then wouldn't it be likely that she hasn't been well for some time now? And isn't it 110% reasonable that he is distressed an/or unhappy? Instead of searching for any possible reason that the Warriors are a mess and that it's their fault, or that our star player wants out, shouldn't we consider what actually comes from the horse's mouth? That is, instead of listening to reporters who kick up stuff in order to gain readers and stay employed... how many times has Kawakami and MTII misled us before?

I'm not saying that Monta has looked happy with the team. I, myself, thought that he has been mopey like Randolph and hasn't seemed connected with or wanting to participate with the team. Ever since he started attending games in a suit I noticed he doesn't cheer for teammates or seem to care if the dubs win or lose. But to give him the benefit of the doubt, no player who wants to be on the court playing the game they love and is instead on the sidelines is happy about it. And no PERSON whose mother is seriously ill is in a very good mood either. All I'm saying is that we shouldn't jump to conclusions when there are viable answers right in our faces that we don't even consider...

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

I agree that..

we shouldn’t jump to conclusions because we probably won’t be getting answers anyways. But I also think that when posting we should double check our most simple of facts, like that Monta is from Mississippi (abbreviated MS) not from Michigan (abbreviated MI).

You’re right freun989, what an important piece of my post you corrected! An incorrect abbreviation I should’ve checked that because it really takes away from the entire point of the post!

we shouldn't jump to conclusions when there are viable answers right in our faces that we don't even consider...

If all the players would just speak the truth like normal people we wouldn’t have to speculate about anything. Why can’t they just give an interview and answer the questions truthfully?

Now wheres the rubbers? Whose got the rubbers?
I noticed there's so many of them
and there's really not that many of us.

I think

it is because professional athletes and coaches view the media as the enemy. Particularly in cities where the team is losing but there is still a high level of interest among the local population (Chicago and the Cubs comes to mind), this perception is not entirely unfounded. Looking to tap the frustrations of the fans as a means of hyping their own column or show, the punditry plays “gotcha” (much in the same way political commentators will do with an unpopular politician). This of course leads to tension between the players, coaches, and media, and we end up with the flippant, dismissive, off-the-cuff type of remarks that Nellie has always been famous for, and that Monta has started to adopt. From that perspective though, maybe coach and franchise player are growing closer together! Jameson for everyone!

It is a serious concern.

But how many times have we been through this? It started with Sleep Floyd and Mitch Richmond…and all the way to Chris Porter….Glibert Arenas…Brian Cardinal…..dude…its not even worth it anymore.

Like Gary Radnich emphasizes….dont worry about these millionare bastids. they entertain us and thats it. dont get emotionally attached to these bastids who dont give a damn about you.

All you can do is be a Warriors fan til you die. We could move to another region in the future cuz the owners DONT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YOU. the PLAYERS that rock Warrior jerseys DONT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT YOU because they can ship out to another team.

Loyal Warrior fans get stabbed in the face severely and get used the most.

We are the best fans in the NBA? Yes. we sure are. and what do we get in return? a dagger stab in the freggin face for being too loyal and great.

I don’t know the answer to this crap. we Warrior fans are forever going to be disrespected til the day we die. It’s sad. Its never going to change until we all stand up to those inconsiderate punk ass devils.

Go Warriors still. right?

good points

It’s like last year with barnes, I remember frank gore’s mom died to and he had a terrible year. I know Monta’s mom didn’t die but it’s still on his mind. Also he might be frusterated because he isn’t able to do the things he normally can do right now that hopefully in time he can retain.

I’m giving him slack cause it’s a hard time. He’s not very much like last season’s Monta, there’s all these rumors about him, and (if true) his mom’s sick.

are you serious?

MTII is a real journalist, and knows the game well. He has also been rather careful with his assertions. All of which makes him distinct from an entity like TK,

TK misleads as habit. Do you even need evidence for this?

I feel like a lot of people on here takes his stuff to deep. Its his own BLOG site. He’s entitled to his own opinions (which that blog is mainly used for). All of his arguments are thought out like a written paper with his own twist on things as his evidence. I know people complain about his anonymous “sources”, but he probably can’t release that information. Whether he’s on or totally wrong, it’s always interesting to hear his pov.

I feel for Monta's dilema

What I don’t appreciate though is that he lied to the team on how he got injured. I don’t like it, but I can let that go. But what really got on my nerves is that though he didn’t do it, it crossed his mind to sue the team because of the $3 million or so that he got suspended without pay for. Nobody told him to mess around on a moped. If anything, the contracted stated for him to not do that. Not in those words, but it does prohibit him for partaking in those activities.

by Golden Boy on Mar 12, 2009 12:16 AM PDT reply actions

Did Monta want to sue for the $3m? I never heard that.

I thought he wanted to file a grevience because he didn’t want to be double penalized by getting the suspension (and loss of $3m) and also Rowell holding the right to void his contract over his head.

Yeah, I think the Warriors could have immediately voided his contract and he wouldn’t have gotten paid crap for who knows how long. At least they’re giving him a chance with his GREAT contract, which he perhaps doesn’t deserve. Biedrins is worth more than him, IMO.

Also...to take the point of this thread.....

How sick IS his mom? What are we talking here…life threatening illness, bird flu? or just a really bad cold or she fell off her Moped…..???? I am not saying it is for us to know, but we equally cannot start throwing ideas around that he is playing badly and coming off with a punk attitude, if in fact we dont know what may be going on.

Who knows, what the true story is….unfortunately I have come to look upon anything Ellis says now as “Pinnochio”.

Sad but true and all down to him. Skeptic is right….a little truth an honesty goes a long way.

God help him, if his mother turns out not to have been that sick after all and it was another lie, in which case he will look like a very sad little man running home to mommy.

It’s a real shame someone like Mully does not have this kid on a REALLY tight leash, that means he cannot speak to the press unless he has a “minder”, until he learns to simply handle the media better.

I do not disagree that TK does come out with a load of bullcrap sometimes, but as rightly pointed out above, this organization seems completely inept at keeping the media and communications under control.

i don't think that is allowed.

That is tampering and can cost a team a whole lot. Not worth the risk.

by warriOs on Mar 13, 2009 11:34 AM PDT up reply actions

If your mom was deathly ill or even mildly ill would feel obliged to tell the entire world of her situation? I for one feel that’s a private issue.

by gobigg415 on Mar 13, 2009 3:46 PM PDT up reply actions

if the reason monta was rested for those 2 weeks was that his mom was sick.

he would have gone back to Mississippi right away, not a week later. secondly, the team would have just said he had a family matter to attend to. the very last thing any organization would do is lie about a serious injury and recovery from it.

by HoLdEmUP on Mar 12, 2009 2:31 AM PDT reply actions

Also consider Monta left home at 18 or 19 with no college

I moved out of my parents house when I was 18, but I didnt move across the country and get thrust into a spotlight.

I think Monta probably still has a lot of growing up to do. We should not be surprised if he is less than truthful or emotionally instable at times like this. We cannot expect him to be perfect because he makes a lot of money. He missed out on a lot of important life lessons by skipping college, making mistakes without the media putting them on front street, etc.

He also wants to play and management is holding him back so the ankle is all good enxt year. Imagine you play hoops 24×7 like him and someone is telling you to sit down and take it easy while your mom is hella sick and your boss thinks you’re a dick for bearking your ankle up. Playing basketball is exactly what he needs to do to get his mind straight, but it’s not like he can go to the playground and hoop it up with anyone. Some dumbass will try to throw a hard foul or something to prove a point.

Give the man some time

Good point man! REC'd

I never even stopped to really think about that. His mom being sick could have a lot to do with the situation or maybe not but it would be a very understandable reason. Maybe she’s been sick for a longer time than when it was reported that he left to see her. Only those within Ellis’s circle truly know. I don’t want to make assumptions but it is a very valid thought for a reason. These guys are professional athletes but they are also humans. I think before I jump into any more conclusions about anyone in sports or the spot light, I’m going to do a better job of trying to put myself in their positions first. However, even though I do this, i’m still going to consider the fact that these guys are millionaires and that’s going to change my view a little bit also.

They can't stop me!!

Man, it's like Monta's public enemy #1

Just to address some points in this thread:

1) Yes, he lied about the moped. Time to move on. If you say you can move on about it, there’s no more reason to bring it up. It’s done. Deal with it.

2) Why is Monta’s attitude, mood, emotional state being discussed here like we all know what he’s thinking? As far as I’ve seen, Monta has said the right thing every time a mic has been put in front of him From the first day he came back when he dispelled the TK rumors that he was angry at the team and wanted to leave, he’s given the public no reason to think he’s unhappy with the situation. Observations such as “oh, he doesn’t seem into it when he sits on the bench” are purely speculative. It could mean something, it could not. All I know is that when he talks, he hasn’t said anything that’s led me to believe he’s unhappy.

3) Why is his mom being sick being questioned? If we are going to question that, they you also have to equally question Nellie saying that Monta’s ankle was stiff. You can’t take one for truth and doubt the other. Neither of these things can be proven so how can you decide which situation is more credible?

Bottom line is, I don’t understand why the guy is getting a bad rap right now. He came back, says he wants to play for this team, and as far as I can tell, is playing his ass off when he is on the court. What more do you want from the guy?

i think u struck a right cord barrance! honestly, ok monta lied, move on, it could happen to anyone, let’s not pretend that none of us never lied even once.
he came back really quick from injury, with a visible passion to play hard and make this team better, and he definitely makes this team better.
also no one would lie about going back to a sick mom, remember he is from the south, then he comes back and u can clearly see that he is not that rusty.
As far as Kawakami goes, he is “a star page views generator” guy, so take his articles with a big doze of habaneros.
By all means it appears that nelli is committed to give monta a long term shot at the point. in fact i think that nelli game is to get monta really fired up about being pg on this team, by making comments about experiment being put on hold etc.

Sickness or No Sickness

I agree it would be a shame if his mother was ill. However, Monta has done his fair share of lying and just acting like a fool.

How on earth can you violate a contract then expect no repercussions? And who cares if he lost 3million? He wasnt playing in any of those games because of an injury incurred while violating a contract.

Tell me what other job you earn millions of dollars doing will look the other way when you violate a contract like this? Warriors have done nothing but try to make Monta a star and he just slaps us in the face.

What other system would he thrive in? He is a poor mans Tony Parker!!!!

Even if his mom was sick he has been rude and a crap teammate this season… look for my SHIP MONTA sign at the 76ers game!!!

Hopefully it won’t be a bigger problem down the line and this mess will all just vanish. Right now we just have to wait and see what happens but please don’t feed fuel to the fire.
